Friday Eye-Opener thread

Submitted by Monocle Smile on

Got to work at 5am for a meeting. Upside is that I can peace out at like 1:30 now.

Alcohol sounds awful to ingest right now, but it's Friday after a rough week, so the idea of alcohol seems great. So, MGoBlogerati,  in the spirit of tailgating 29 days from now, what's your favorite morning adult beverage?

Bloody Mary ... Mcclure's mix, Worcestershire, valentine vodka, with some garnish (pickled green bean, blue cheese stuffed olive, and a baby onion). Yum. Woah, I am thirsty all of a sudden.

An excellent take on a morning tailgate requirement.  I trend towards Tito's Vodka (great taste, resonably priced and American-made) + plenty of horsradish (that's where you get your heat/spice, NOT from a hot sauce) + a liberal amount of Worcestershire + garnish of your choice (I like pickled green beans and olives).

I am hopelessly addicted to coffee in the morning, so I have to go with the good ol' Irish coffee. If I'm feeling mellow, like a Christmas morning, I'd go with some Bailey's. If I'm feeling a little rowdier, just toss in some whiskey.

Things NOT to have in the morning: can't stand tomato juice so absolutely no bloody maries, and even in college, beers before noon turn my stomach.

We have Beermosa's half OJ and half Sam Adams Boston Lager. However I did just have Brother Benjamin XX from Greenbush Brewery yesterday and it was amazing.

I don't mind starting the morning at home with Bailey's with just a hint of coffee, although I have to opt for the straight coffee for work purposes, especially since we have to worry about OSHA rates in my world and straight Irish cream is supposedly not helpful in that regard. Therefore, the Bailey's is typically reserved for Saturday morning to set the tone for the weekend. Strangely enough, at some point in the morning on most work mornings, I will mix in a vitamin water of some sort. It almost replaces actually eating breakfast, but not quite.

On gamedays, I have been known to mix in a mimosa with the coffee. I figure that I am at least getting something good from the orange juice.

With chia seeds. Glass of green veggie juice.

It sounds awful, but I have learned as I have matured that taking a good and proper movement, regularly, is really about the only thing I have left.

Bloody mary's with lots of horsradish and tabasco.  But drinking in the 'morning' for me is usually brunch on the weekends.

During the week, coffee.  It's frowned upon for physicians to be drinking alcohol before/during work, especially when seeing patients.

I had a morning appointment with a urologist about 30 years ago for a minor problem, and during the "turn your head and cough" examination, I just about fell over from the clouds of vodka breath that came out of him. Needless to say I got the hell out of there as soon as I could and never went back.

Can never go wrong with a mimosa or bloody with McClure's, but in the spirit of football season and tailgating, a delicious PBR (or 10) always hits the spot.

Authentic 100% Kona coffee. From Hawaii - the absolute best coffee.

Also, 2 scoops of designer whey chocolate protein powder before my morning workout.

kona is good but by no means the best coffee out there. Way to nutty and acidic and not enough body and earthy notes. It's basically a Columbian on roids and I have actually had better reserve Columbia's (which I don't even like by the way)

Only have big bills in my wallet and my swipey thingy for the vending machine has gone dry, so I wasn't able to get my morning Coca Cola.  I also wasn't in the mood for coffee today, so I have settled for the can of Sprite I had at my desk.  I enjoy Sprite, but it certainly doesn't work as a morning beverage.

Good news is it's Tigers day at work today!  So not only do we get to wear t-shirts and flip flops, but at 5pm they're piling us in charter buses with coolers full of beer and taking us to the game.  Eat 'em Tigers, eat 'em up (RIP eat 'em up guy)!
