Friday Changing Servers, Hambone Posbang

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

I don't even do these posbangs anymore but what the heck - drupal's presence was felt last night:  "Changing Servers, Hambone" was the quote of the evening.

College football tomorrow

Mayweather/Macgregor tomorrow

Michigan v. FL in just 8 days

32 degrees up north right now....on August 25th

On the sad side of things, oldest child/daughter goes to college tomorrow.  Man, going to miss her something fierce.   Happy for her of course, but my heart is breaking over this.   Time marches on....

Have a great weekend.  Supposed to be sunny and gourgeous up here.

Hambone, hambone
Have you heard?
Papa’s gonna buy me a mocking bird
And if that mocking bird don’t sing
Papa’s gonna buy me a diamond ring
And if that diamond ring don’t shine
Papa’s gonna take it to the five and dime

The final week before college football is the slowest week imaginable.  As we all now, it is like serving a week in jail.  I've never been to jail, but I know this is how slow the time passes.

A vacation week moves faster than what is fair or reasonable.  The speed at which it is consumed defies all reason.

I am going to combine the two and see what happens.  Today is my last day of work before the game.  My guess is that it goes faster than a normal week, but not by a lot.  Very happy for the opportunity to find out.

This is a fair point. I may have to take it into consideration for next year. I took my vacation two weeks ago (and I'm taking another one in three weeks, which was also poor planning on my part, but to be fair I wanted my August vacation to be in July but it didn't work out that way.)

My daughter heads off to school tomorrow as well. She's so excited and I'm so proud.

Also, trip to Yellowstone was great! No big fish, but lots of them. All on various attractor dries. Hike into Hell Roaring Creek made for a great day's fishing and a nice introduction to the mountain backcountry for my boy.

bittersweet, the joy of children taking a next great step in life mixed with how much we'll miss them.

trip sounds great, too, but the without pictures none of those trout were caught.  so i'm thinking you need to post at least a couple of your salmonoid photos.  they aren't banned by google and won't get the blog in trouble.

Have a safe weekend everyone.  Hang in there Xtra - I have three that are still young but when that day comes for them to head off to college, I know it will be hard.

At least while in college, she'll still probably be home over the summer and Christmas. Our youngest is now out of the house and finished with college.  I miss our three children, but not the way my wife / their mother does.  I miss having someone to go to the movies with, help out around the house, talk about what's new in movies, technology, and so on.  For my wife it's more visceral, and it sometimes makes her moody and despondent.

I'm better able to intellectualize their moving on and out than she is. Our children are all self -supporting and happy. We have friends and acquaintances with children into their late twenties or older who still live at home, either not working, or working some menial job. Two of our children have great careers, and it won't be long before they make more money than I ever did. The other has a job that she loves that pays her expenses and includes health benefits. It's the natural order: kids grow up, and if they are successful they move out and support themselves, but for my wife, there is still something missing that she longs for.  I guess it's the mothering instinct.

about the cycle of life.  that is one of the reasons we bought the farm.  i tell the kids, go to school, find a spouse and a career, come back home and i will parcel off a piece of the farm and build you a house at a price nobody can match.  and then we'll take care of the grandkids.  i suspect some of them will do just that but i know that others won't.   its all good, but as you already know, a bittersweet time.

on the humorous side though, at least i'm not an 'msudad'!  or at least, not yet.

Just wanted to give an update on our beloved flameout somewittyname.

I tabulated the Negs last night from the Sam Webb Camp Update thread from last Saturday totaling 5,411.

SWN's first 4 posts in that thread were 303, 284, 268, and 239 Negs (respecfully, of course).

SWN's last reported score of roughly 4,400 was down to -2550 so we can assume a minimum of 6950 Negs were issued over the course of a few days.

Thank you Mods for letting that couch fire burn.

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!!!!

Much of the time, I try to save people from themselves, but once in a while, it becomes painfully obvious that a user doesn't want to be saved, and in any case, the fire is pretty and it would be a shame if the fire department was on the scene TOO quickly. Those moments are truly glorious on this board.
