Freep Quinton Washington story
This is from the free press (I know, I know) about Quinton Washington dealing with his speech impediment and how Michigan helped him. I found this to be a great story and very inspiring. http://www.freep.com/article/20121102/SPORTS06/311020091/quintin-Washing...

I think this could be the 1st case of a story containing Hoke and RR and there is no room to  start a debate or place blame or sling arrows.  As RR would say can't we all be positive?

Good Story.   With defense needing aggression and aggression coming from confidence maybe Q will really break out next year.

This is a nice story showing the care RR's staff took and how Hoke took the baton and ran with it.   I could see no downside......but I knew if we worked hard enough the bitterman could get  get some snark and negativity going.

Nice work by .....Gordie "My cup is an 1/8th full bitterman" Bell to get the job done.   Well Done.

Somebody asked Hoke in a recent (as in during this past week) press conference about what has made Washington better over the couple of games, and Hoke mentioned confidence.  Obviously the speech-related confidence improvement is a longer-term process but it sounds like the staff found a great way to get through to Washington and helped him translate it to the football field.

Nice story -- I didn't know he had a speech impediment. That has to be a pretty daunting experience, going to school far from home, trying to adjust to college life in general (not to mention life in a big-time football program), and dealing with that.

For reasons I can't remember, Quinton was one of the recruits I was most excited about us getting in his class. Before this year, I was starting to worry that b/w the coaching change and the position switch, he would never become a regular contributor. But here we are, and he has done a pretty damn good job this year filling the gaping hole at NT left by Mike Martin's departure. (Remember a few months back when everyone just assumed it would be either BWC or even the true freshman Pipkins in that spot?)  I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do the rest of this year and next, as he continues to mature and develop in the position with the great D-line coaching he's getting now.

I found this story to be very inspiring and reassuring in a way - my daughter actually was diagnosed with apraxia of speech a few years ago, basically as she was just learning to speak and the early intervention does wonders, of course. She has a confidence now that she did not even a year or two ago and it is wonderful to see. This is another example of how far a helping hand can go.

Thanks for sharing this.

I remember hearing some subtle reference to his speech impediment in relationship to his being quiet and shy.  Glad to hear he's gaining both confidence on the field and off, and able to talk about it.  I loved in one of the recent press conferences how Hoke got almost teary when talking how much he loved watching Q progress.  It's rare to see that from Hoke, and now it's easier to understand why.
