It was announced when RR was fired that the entire staff was let go save for Barwis who is also gone. Considering that it was announced today that Hoke's RB coach was coming with him, Jackson appears to be out.
January 13th, 2011 at 5:14 PM ^
Noooooooo!!!!
The new guy better have extensive knowledge of past slow Michigan RBs to which the fast new RBs can be compared.
January 13th, 2011 at 5:16 PM ^
But... that guy was also the slash Recruiting Coordinator. So, maybe there is a chance he would just have that role and not be the slash RB Coach
Can't help but feel for the Jacksons.
But, maybe Wheatley is on his way to town...

January 13th, 2011 at 5:43 PM ^
Wait is he Algernon or Charlie? He could be compared to either.
January 13th, 2011 at 5:57 PM ^
I would say an unmedicated Charlie.
January 13th, 2011 at 6:01 PM ^
Ahhh Pre-Op Charlie, got it.

Yeah... we'll leave it at that.
January 13th, 2011 at 5:32 PM ^
It was announced when RR was fired that the entire staff was let go save for Barwis who is also gone.
That's a contractual thing. Technically, you can't fire just the head coach - you have to fire the entire staff. Barwis is (was?) under a separate contract, so he was not let go in that action. Jackson may be rehired.
January 13th, 2011 at 5:12 PM ^
So he would have to be re-hired by Hoke.
January 13th, 2011 at 5:13 PM ^
He probably has a chance of staying seeing as they worked together previously. Right?
January 13th, 2011 at 5:13 PM ^
To Keep Freddy J!
January 13th, 2011 at 5:14 PM ^
"Haven't seen any info suggesting he is or is not still around. Update please?"
you should read more.
January 13th, 2011 at 5:16 PM ^
I would be very surprised if he isn't brought back in some capacity with the team.
January 13th, 2011 at 5:24 PM ^
really
January 13th, 2011 at 5:26 PM ^
Agree. I think he'll be back.

January 13th, 2011 at 5:17 PM ^
...find an administrative position for him in the Athletic Department? Based on his many years here, he kinda knows where all the bodies are buried.
January 13th, 2011 at 5:19 PM ^
What does a RB coach do anyway? Watch film and say, "you should have run there"?
January 13th, 2011 at 5:28 PM ^
Recruit.
January 13th, 2011 at 5:33 PM ^
By that rationale Bobby Williams should have been a helluva coach!
January 13th, 2011 at 5:39 PM ^
Not every position coach is head coach material, isn't Bobby Williams one of the main reasons Mark Ingram choose Alabama.
January 13th, 2011 at 5:43 PM ^
Using that rationale, Bobby Williams is currently a very good position coach for Alabama.
January 13th, 2011 at 7:17 PM ^
as most guys in the Rivals/Scout/Lemming universe will tell you, particularly in Texas, where he brought in Kellen Jones this year. I hope we keep him for that reason alone.
January 13th, 2011 at 5:39 PM ^
That's one thing. They also run a lot of drills working on proper running form, footwork, ball security, blocking and receiving. They also serve as an important liaison between the player and head coach. The HC doesn't get to spend that much time with each player. The position coaches serve as his eyes and ears much of the time. When I was at U-M, I knew one of the running backs a little. He described Jackson as his "father figure" and Carr as a "grandfather figure."
January 13th, 2011 at 5:22 PM ^
FWIW, his Wiki page still has him as part of Michigan. All other assistants in the old regime are not.
January 13th, 2011 at 6:30 PM ^
Because wikipedia is always right...right?
January 13th, 2011 at 5:32 PM ^
Well, obviously the SoCal mercenary loser coach has no sense of tradition and would rather cut all ties within the program to stamp his bloated ego in Ann Arbor than to honor the continuity of more than 100 years of M football. I guess the hoke is on us!
January 13th, 2011 at 5:34 PM ^
as the hyperbole coordinator.
January 13th, 2011 at 5:40 PM ^
Agreed -- we need one of those. It's the most important job in the universe.
January 13th, 2011 at 5:36 PM ^
January 13th, 2011 at 5:39 PM ^
Hoke's RB coach was a QB coach before his time at SDSU. Maybe Jackson will still be retained as the RB coach and Hoke's guy will be the QBs coach.
January 13th, 2011 at 5:40 PM ^
Apparently not
January 13th, 2011 at 5:44 PM ^
Whats up with Trolls lately isn't there a gas station in Ohio looking for an attendent to pump gas!
January 13th, 2011 at 5:58 PM ^
Zing!
(not a troll, just long time reader first time poster! be kind!)
January 13th, 2011 at 5:59 PM ^
My best guess for how things pan out:
- HC/DL? - Hoke
- OC - Borges (from SDSU)
- DC- ???, Depends on what Hoke does, he could either do DL or DC
- QB- ???, No idea, Loeffler maybe?
- WR- Jeff Hecklinski (SDSU) moves back since this would make more sense for a former QB
- RB - Fred Jackson is kept
- OL- Darrell Funk (from SDSU)
- LB- Mark Smith
- DB - Jon Hoke?
I'm assuming that they keep Fred Jackson because I'm guessing Hecklinski only coached the RBs because SDSU had their own Fred Jackson in WR Coach LeCharls McDaniel. http://goaztecs.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/bio-McDaniel-LeCharls.html
January 13th, 2011 at 7:37 PM ^
I'm not a genius but the looks of this coaching staff is not very impressive.
January 13th, 2011 at 6:00 PM ^
to UM. Hoping they find a job of Jackson.
January 13th, 2011 at 6:01 PM ^
would be a terrible thing to cut those FL ties.
January 13th, 2011 at 6:25 PM ^
No way he is gone. He might not be RBs coach, but no way he is gone. If he isn't a coach, it's probably because he didn't want to be but I am sure he will be working with the football program/AD in some way or another. Hart, Perry, Terrell, Thomas...the list goes on with what that guy has done..
January 13th, 2011 at 6:34 PM ^
Fred Jackson could also reprise his old role of being a WR coach/ recruiting guru. Would be great to have him on the new coaching staff.
