Fox Sports: NCAA should consider OSU's "arrogant attempts" to "snake its way out"

Thayer Evans of Fox Sports says:

 

The University of Miami is doing it right by self-imposing a bowl ban.  That’s something Ohio State never did .  Granted there are differences, however, OSU still allowed players to play in the Sugar Bowl after 5 players became ineligible by accepting illegal benefits (now known to include money as well as tattoos).  The NCAA should never have allowed this.  Now, OSU is still trying to “snake its way out of NCAA woes” by minimizing penalties.

 

“The NCAA should factor in Ohio state’s arrogance” when deciding what penalties to impose.

If it was up to me, it'd be like the good old days and Gene Smith and Gordon Gee would get tossed out back to get their butts kicked, then everyone would shake hands and they'd go home.  Now you have all of this NCAA tomfoolery!

Gordon Gee and Mark Emmert are BFF's.  That pretty much eliminates THE Ohio State University ever paying for their systemic cheating and pattern of violations.

I don't have any faith in the NCAA's ability or willingness to actually punish offenders.  USC was supposed to set a certain standard punishment for these things.  OSU's offenses blew way past what USC did (or was supposed to have known about), but I doubt they will get anything close to it.

I am content to beat them into the turf on Saturday.

I've always suspected that the NCAA (or the bowls) had something to do with those OSU players staying eligible for the Sugar Bowl.  That's a big TV game with a lot of money involved, and the NCAA wouldn't exactly like to be embarassed on that stage.

It certainly cost USC, what with the AD claiming that the NCAA and others were simply "jealous." Admittedly the infractions are different, but the arrogance? Quite similar.

jim tressel at the game with Posey on the sidelines last week on the BTN highlights?  That's pretty ballsy for a school "claiming" it was all him and he's away from the program now so it's not a big deal....

I don't care who wins, as long as it's Michigan.....

Self imposing a bowl ban after you're already 6-5 is not "doing it the right way". If anything that's even more breathtakingly cynical than OSU's breathtaking cynicism.

OSU prez and NCAA prez old roomates, colleagues, and still consider each other "good friends".  There is no hammer coming down on OSU.

Its why they have been so arrogant, because they can.  I believe as much as anything the conversations already been had, OSU knows exactly whats coming its way.  It will be about 15% worse than their self imposed penalties, it will be orchastrated that way so the NCAA can claim some sort of tough action.
