Fox Sports 1 College Football Preview

Submitted by MGoUberBlue on

The one-hour show was on at 2:00 PM today and will repeat at 9:00 tonight.

An interview with Jim Harbaugh lasted not much more than a nanosecond.

Interestingly, the commentators, including Matt Leinart and Dave Wannstedt and others, predicted that Michigan would win 8 or 9 games this year.

They focused on the quality talent that was not well-coached in the past couple of years that should break out under the current coaching staff.

EDIT: Perhaps I am drinking too much of the cool-aid, but I tend to agree with that analysis and have a hard time understanding those who predict a 6- or 7-win season.  We have too much talent and now great coaching to lose 5 or 6 games this year.

So let's get this straight... some guys said we'd win 8-9 games this year.  Some other guys, though, only give us 6-7 wins.  You're saying that you are optimistic about our chances, and would likely side with the 8-9 win guys.

Would it shock those in this thread to learn that I too would side with the 8-9 win guys in this discussion?

numbers and statistical analysis. But I think for us, the numbers are only a reflection of performance. I mean to me, what I really want to see out of this team is better discipline and poise under pressure, which used to be a hallmark of Michigan-coached teams.

That was clearly lacking a year ago. That team was among the saddest competitve teams I think Michigan has fielded in years. Because the team had talent and expectations, which it obviously failed to meet, but what's more, it didn't believe in itself or want to stand up for itself on the field --at least that is the way I saw it.

This, in fact, is the real reason why people get pissed off at predictions about Michigan giving up 28 or more points a game. Michigan teams don't do that. And thinking that trend will continue under this regime is ridiculous. It will not happen.

I counted their number of 4* plus guys and ours...Their total of 12 between 2012 and 2015 was matched by one class alone of ours (12 4 and 5 stars) in 2013 I believe. We can't settle on talent alone but on paper we should smash them!!

I don't see why it is so hard to see 9 wins. If we can find a way to go 4-0 in the non-conference and then we should beat Maryland, Northwestern, Minnesota, Rutgers and Indiana. After that, we could pull an upset between MSU, OSU or PSU. That's a 10 win season and we are all gleefully prainsing Harbaugh and company.

Obviously, this game is a huge barometer challenge for that kind of finish. But I think even though we all want a win, we will mostly be looking at how this team responds under its new coach and staff in various game situations. That will ultimately be the big takeaway.

I'm in total agreement. Not having seen a game yet, I think we can win those games. After, Thursday we will, obviously, have a better idea of what is going to happen to happen the rest of the season. Here's hoping to a great start and some momentum moving forward!

Minnesota lost their RB and TE to the NFL where they are expected to contribute along with their best defensive player being gone also. I don't get all the expectations to lose to Minnesota at all.

We have the talent and the coaches on our side, but we don't have time on our side. That's how we can lose 5-6 games this fall. Many of them will be very close. The Harbaugh system isn't like the Urban system where you can throw in just about any body with a pulse and put up 40 points. It seems like the Harbaugh system requires a year or two of building up strength and toughness and discipline and learning the playbook.

Why don't all coaches use the Meyer system then? The coaches at Ohio didn't have time to wreck the attitudes of 100 kids is the difference at Ohio and Florida compared to us. Those teams were at least taught technique and toughness before Meyer took over. If JH could put in a system that put up an instant 40 points he would do it. We haven't had a QB in what 8 years? Sadly Meyer is the second best coach in the Big, and based on credentials number one for now. JH is about to stomp him though in the next ten years.
