I dont think we have to worry about Nick Hill and his 0 carries in a game thats in doubt
With the way we've covered kickoffs this season, he could take one back on us.
Austin White is in one of my classes. I haven't heard his named called in a couple weeks. I don't want to make any assumptions but I don't think it looks good for Mr. White.
Out of 25 recruits 15 or less are going to see meaningful playing time. Some, like Austin White, won't work out or have other issues. Some, like Nick Hill, just aren't good enough to play regularly and contribute at the D1 level. This isn't any different with coaches where some, like Lloyd Carr win National Championships, some, like Rich Rodriguez don't work out or have other issues. Some, like former Spartan quarterbacks/running backs coach Dan Enos just aren't good enough to win much of anything at the D1 level.
Nick Hill is only a RS Freshman, and he already contributes.
Medical Reshirt in 2010...check with hopes for continued recovery.
Redshirt freshman "contributes"
vs. Youngstown State 2 carries for 7 yards
vs. Florida Atlantic 14 carries for 56 yards
Notre Dame 0 for 0
vs. CMU 8 carries for 20 yards
vs. Ohio 0 for 0
He's had 9 returns for a reasonable 26.89 avg.
He might contribute as a kickoff returner but I sure don't fear the rest of his game.
Contributing as a kickoff returner is certainly better than contributing fodder for John U Bacon's book.
His lack of carries probably has something to do with Capers, Bell and Baker.
Last year, there was a big article comparing Hill to Mike Hart and how he was THE FUTURE for Michigan State.
Enos: I can't wait until MY ALMA MATER beats Michigan again on Saturday.
White: [Falls on floor in hysterics]
Enos: Get outta here. You're suspended.
losing Dan LeFevour didn't do us any favors in Mount Pleasant.
Enos didn't kill the program. Brian Kelly built it up. Butch Jones rode his coattails with all Kelly's recruits, including one of the best in CMU history in Lefevour, did worse with better talent (again, that Kelly recruited) then Kelly did when he was there, then left the cupboard completely bare as he somehow continued to milk Brian Kelly's ability to have success. Butch Jones was a bad coach. He killed the CMU program.
CMU has been Plato's Allegory of the Cave since Kelly left. When Butch Jones was there it was Socrates description of inside the cave. Enos is the release from the cave. Once Enos is fired (which probably won't be as soon as many CMU fans hope for) CMU will attempt to return to the cave. That's my outside view of the CMU football program.
I don't know about either coach, but Jones in his third year at CMU put up a 11-2 record. That doesn't seem like riding his coat tails when he improve from his previous two seasons as head coach. Also, his Cincinnati team is currently 4-1, but I guess you are going to say that Kelly did that too.
Again, I don't know shizz about Butch Jones, but he doesn't look too bad on paper from this viewpoint.
we were 12-2 and that was 2009. And you are correct, that was his 3rd season at CMU. That being my 5th year and final year going to school at Central, I can assure anyone who is reading this, the 2009 Central team (in Jones' third year, as mentioned) was better than any team Kelly had in Mount Pleasant.
You are basically talking out of your ass OP; Enos and the AD killed that program. Yes, Kelly built it up but Jones successfully managed the transition using a mixture of both Kellys and his own recruits (are you forgetting Antonio Brown?)
The AD has a serious ego problem where they believe 4 winning seasons suddenly makes everyone infatuated with them evidenced by them forcing you to purchase season tickets this year in order to have them next as they have a 6/7 home game slate including MSU. Think of it this way; if the Lions go back to 0-16 next year do you think the entire city will still support them? Exactly, this is already happening, they could hardly get the students to sit through a half when we were winning do you really think the town and students are going to show up when they are not?
The cupboard was also not bare but again the AD thought they could do whatever they felt like as the last two coaches they touched turned to gold and say what you want about the spread but is an equalizer in terms of talent so naturally lets go hire a smash mouth football coach to completely change the direction of the team which just gave you the best decade ever for CMU football.
I know a couple of people that went to high school with him that go up here now and none really care for Austin. Also the rumors i'm hearing about the suspension don't sound too good
I could go for some rumors. Please speculate. It is MGOBLOG after all
I honestly do not understand all the Nick Hill references... MSU is already splitting carries between Caper, a junior, Baker, a junior, and Bell, a sophomore. Why exactly is anyone targeting Hill? He has this year and likely another year to ride the bench before he has to prove anything on the field.. that's the result of RB depth.
He is their primary kick returner. With our poor kick coverage, many are fearing he will return one for a touchdown against us. This is why there are so many Nick Hill references.
He returns kicks decently well, but I think there's a little too much freakout. He's shifty, but not really that speedy. Plus, kick coverage is probably an emphasized part of the game this week.
Because he desperately wanted to go to Michigan, but our corches at the time decided they'd rather have Austin White (who is no longer with us).
Agreed. He's got talent ahead of him. I wasn't a huge fan of Hill when he came out of high school, but just because he hasn't taken over the world as a redshirt freshman doesn't mean he won't be a good back in the future.
Additionally, Rich Rodriguez hasn't really lit the world on fire with his running back recruits (Toussaint, Smith, White, Hopkins, Shaw, etc.), who have been mediocre so far. There's still a chance that Toussaint turns into a decent college back, but I don't think any of them will be competing for Heisman votes in their careers.
Add Dee Hart to that list, for posterity's sake.
I notice Magnus's list of Rodriguez's mediocre running back recruits doesn't include Mike Cox. Still a Heisman hopeful in your book?
Cox was a Carr recruit (commit date of July 31st, 2007). And since a more MANBALL type coach has also decided to not use him, methinks Mike Cox just isn't cut out for college football.
Interestingly, Rivals has the incorrect commit date listed for Mike Shaw (they list 2/6/07, but we all know he was a 2008 Signing Day switch from PSU).
You just had to inject facts into my sarcasm, didn't you . . .
That has to be the worst YPC for any receiver I have ever seen.
I said it before when he got kicked off our team, and Ill say it again: Im pretty sure this douche stole my ipod and no, I have not let go of it. Eff that dude, he got what he deserved from Michigan and while he is only suspended from CMU i dont think that will last long. Book it! Some just cant hack it at the whole "doing the right thing" thing.
I'm gonna have to ask you to tell the story as somehow I've never heard it before. How'd you get in a situation where he stole your ipod?
My friend was having a party and my ipod was plugged into the speakers (my mistake never to be made again) and him and his goon ass friends were sitting next to the ipod and I went to get another drink and when i got back, the ipod and those hoolagans were gone. I had seen him a few times in other places too and always seemed like a big doucher. Like, bro youre not even good. I can go be a tackling dummy for the michigan defense too if i wanted. But im not mad. Its not like he is going to be doing anything with his life, so he gets what he deserves. I guess he falls into the Tate "you have to try really hard to fail" Forcier catagory of ass hole.
Onward and upward, ya dig!
they must have quite the criminal record...assault x 2? battery? robbery x 2? fighting? urinating in public? and now whatever this is...
I mean my goodness.
He must have a permanent facepalm mark on his forehead.
my kids are as respectable and classy as these guys.
a crappy dad.
By the way, for all those people who lambasted me for questioning Austin White's attitude before/when he committed...
...the dude didn't earn his wings at Michigan, never made it to his true freshman season, and is now suspended indefinitely at CMU.
I rarely question recruits' attitudes, but sometimes these things can be seen coming from a mile away.
To hear some tell it, UMich turned down a player on par with LaMichael James.
Hill has a couple of good kickoff returns to his credit, is a high-character guy (it seems), and is only a RS freshman, so he has time, but c'mon -- he was a three-star recruit with a bunch of MAC offers (and Stanford). It's fair to say that most fans would like a do-over on that, but I really doubt whether we'll be wringing our hands about this in a few years.
