Former CMU RB Ontario Sneed passes away
Sad news to say the least..Prayers go out to his family. R.I.P...
His career was done right before my time at Central started but I still remember watching him play many of times as I watched CMU games. Loved the way he ran and played the game from what I remember. Made a name for himself on those high powered offenses.
A sad, sad day for CMU. We have had far too many of them recently, with the passing earlier this month of basketball great Dan Roundfield.
Overlapped mine. I'm in shock
I bet man, I first saw Hustle Belt report this and I had to read the headline multiple times before I could even begin to wrap my head around it. Shocking news indeed
Career was over before I started at CMU. Still in absolute shock though, RIP, thoughts and prayers with his family.
Way too young. RIP
I was at CMU at the same time. We had some mutual friends and I had the chance to meet him a few times. He was a good guy in addition to being a good football player. Sad news to be sure.
Dang he's my age that's scary. RIP mr sneed.
I was a junior at Central when Sneed came in and started as a freshman. I still remember the crowd yelling 'Sneeeeeeeeed' when he would score a touchdown or make a big play. RIP
Sad to hear, though my only memory of him is having a post named after him here: http://mgoblog.com/content/ontario-sneed-haunts-my-dreams
a good person. My daughter knew him. He was one of the good guys. I remember him and Dan playing in the Big House. Sneed said later that it was a dream for him to play there. That was the first Michigan Stadium game ever that was delayed by weather. It was a joke to try to clear the stadium. However, the second delay was last year's WMU game. It was so much smoother to clear out, yet I digress, it is just a flipping shame. RIP my man.
Sneed began school at CMU the same year as I did (2005), so I feel particularly saddened by his passing. He was the leading rusher for the Chips 05 and 06. Freshman All-American, and in the top 5-10 in CMU history, it looks like, in a few categories such as career receptions, rush yards, and rec tds. I remember "Sneed's Creed" in the student section... though my nickname for him was always "The Need for Sneed". I think he was playing in the IFL last year. Prayers are with him, fam and friends... may he rest in Christ's peace.
I feel like if you combine uniquely canadian proper nouns with characters from Dr Suess books, you have a receipe for a GREAT name generator in NCAA XX:
Condolences to the Sneed family.
I had a few run ins with him at CMU with friends that went there. Like a lot of people said, he was an awesome guy. Never took himself too seriously. It's very sad to hear about this. My thoughts go out to his close friends and family.
By run-ins you just mean you met him right? I guess I think of run-ins as bad encounters with someone.
I guess I should have phrased that differently, but yeah, friend of friends sort of thing.
Shocked to hear this, I am friends with a former teammate of his who posted it on his FB wall this morning and I immediately thought it couldnt be the same person I thought it was as he was just too young.
RIP Ontario, was fun watching you and those teams play.
I started attending Central when he did. By the time, Kelly had Central hummin (my sophomore or junior year), Sneed's Creed was in full force in the student section. You couldnt get a seat if you came in a minute after kick-off. Those were good days to be a Central student and football fan. Not so much now with a Sparty running things......
It is horrible to see a young kid die so early. Bests to his family and friends.
RIP Mr. Sneed.
A disturbingly large number of ex-football players end up dying at relatively young ages due to heart problems. I don't know if there is a basic physiological issue with carrying that much weight or if it's due to non-natural factors (there is a correlation between steroid use and heart weakness), but it's unsettling.
