I half-expected the Freep Jr. to try to blame RR for this and bring up Demar Dorsey as inevitably following the same path. So when I skimmed the article I the name Dorsey jumped out at me. I was releived that when I read more closely the Doresy in this story is an Ypsi cop. No mentiono or blame of RR in this story either. Very suprising straigt news piece from Freep Jr.

Since Cissoko was basically a Carr recruit.

The story would not fit the Freep's predetermined theorem, that all bad things at Michigan are attributable to Rich Rodriguez.

Can anybody find the story Mick McCabe did, warning the world that in recruiting Cissoko, Lloyd Carr had essentially recruited an outlaw? No? Maybe it's because there was no such story. Sometimes things don't turn out the way Mick McCabe expects.

Or maybe we should hope the pizza guy and cab driver, who might be working those jobs for their families, feel safe enough to continue working comfortably. Amazing how much sympathy is directed at the perp in situations like this and not the victims.

Chill out.

There is a difference in "sympathizing" with Cissoko and thinking it's sad that in 8 months a kid went from starting at CB as a sophomore for one of the most storied college football teams to having completely fucked his life up. I don't sympathize with Cissoko - he made his bed, and hopefully he turns things around from here on out. I do think it's sad when a young kid ruins his life, however.

He's just plain dumb. Threw away everything for nothing and scarred someone for life. No sympathy for him and saying it's sad insinuates sympathy. Like I said below, if his situation should be seen as sad so should Winston's problems.

chitownblue2

April 20th, 2010 at 7:39 PM ^

Are being deliberately dense? How many times do I need to say "I don't have sympathy for him"?

It's sad that he's 19, and has fucked his life up. It's his responsibility for being in this situation, and it's his responsibility to get out.

I also think it's "sad" that Winston can't fucking control himself. These guys have great opportunities to at least get an education, and they're fucking them up. I think that's sad.

chitownblue2

April 20th, 2010 at 7:47 PM ^

Ah, yes. "deliberate" and "dense" are not part of the english language?

I'm wondering if you're being willfully ignorant, or just ignoring what I'm saying.

Praytell - what is YOUR opinion on Demar Dorsey? I want to see one of the people sermonizing about the irredeemable evil of Cissoko to put their money where their mouth is.

And please, continue to neg me for disagreeing with you. I have 8000+ points, I'm not saving up for a Brian Cook bobblehead.

Face it, he isn't going to get the point.

These are the exact same people who will rip on Dorsey for his past, rip on him if he doesn't qualify, then laud his story when he is a two time All-Big Ten selection after undergoing several years of JUCO in order to qualify.

What bothers me isn't that this guy has been intentionally ignorant throughout this thread, it's that he has gotten posbanged repeatedly in this thread, suggesting that a scary number of people agree with him.

You try to insult me so I reciprocate and you can't even get it. Your first sentence wasn't a complete one. Geez. I guess things will have to be spelled out for you. My opinion on Dorsey is that he hasn't even been given an opportunity to be around a structured environment. BooBoo had that but that didn't seem to work. If you believe any of the things RR says then you would believe that he gives these kids all the help they can get with class and tries to teach them to be good men. If Dorsey screws up and it involves something that is non-violent then I will feel sad for him. I do not feel sad for anyone who commits violence or intimidates with it to rob someone or otherwise.

Zeke

April 20th, 2010 at 8:11 PM ^

Either do you. I have my opinion of things as do you. If you disagree then I have no problem debating. I haven't negged a single post on here. If you feel it necessary to do so with mine then by all means and I find your last sentence extremely insulting. I haven't personally attacked you even though you have done so to me.

Funny that everything this Zeke has said (regardless of how illogical it was) has been given pos-bangs???

So I would just like to say how sad it is that you pos-bang yourself with multiple accounts you've made. You must feel so proud to gain all those wonderful points! Perhaps you'll even become MASTER OF MGOBLOG POINTS! Then you can wear a robe and prance around your Mother's basement (99% that's wear you live) singing "I am the Champion".

And I know that I'll have negative bangs for this... all of which will come from Zeke's aliases. Just saying what everyone else was thinking.

Yes.
And one broke into a person's house with a firearm, and the other:

1) attempted to rob a taxi driver with a BB gun
2) snatched cash out of delivery person's hands

I think there's a difference in the severity of the crimes. Given the age, can well call it a wash?

Look - Cissoko should be sentenced and punished for his crime. He has nobody to blame but himself. But there's a vibe on this thread that acts like he's irredeemably evil, and not just a petty offender. Some people are so eager to pronounce a 19 year old a lost cause, and that, in my mind, is too bad.

jmblue

April 21st, 2010 at 5:24 PM ^

Are you really going to parse through the types of crimes they committed and argue that one was worse than the other? They were both awful. I think it's a little easier to rationalize this behavior from a 16-year-old living in the ghetto than a 20-year-old who's recently spent over a year in a closely-monitored college football program. (BTW, is there a reason why you keep taking a year off Cissoko's age? He's 20.)

How many of us knew shit from good chocolate at 19 years of age and how many of us know someone who could have been arrested for some stupid crap they (or us) were involved in...thinking here to anyone who has bought marijuana, fought anyone outside a bar etc. etc.

Anyway, I feel for the victims of the offense and sadly Cissoko is clearly an idiot. This said, I hope the kid gets it together.

Wow. This thread has literally gotten out of control. I think what we can all agree on is that he has made some really bad decisions and he should reap what he has sown. The only part that is sad is what could have been. His current circumstances aren't sad, they're infuriating. I say that because, like someone else has stated in this thread, there is no more need for more criminals in this World. If he ever turns things around then he should be commended because, as we can all see, it's going to be a long road.

Nosce Te Ipsum

April 20th, 2010 at 8:59 PM ^

Huh? First off, how in the heck do I get negged for something like that? I don't really care too much about points but if someone doesn't like what I said then I'd at least like to hear why.

You're just being bullheaded saying that he'll never turn it around. It seems like you don't want him to. Was that your kid that he robbed? That is what it is starting to look like. He's a bad young adult but hopefully he doesn't become a bad adult. For societies sake you should hope he turns it around.

I'm going to be done with two points:

1) Nobody has argued, at any time through the 100+ replies, that BC should not "learn the hard way," not be punished, not go to jail. You've created a straw man and twisted words from your first post. For some mysterious reason, everyone who has suggested that the whole situation is too bad or argued with you or mocked you has been negbanged in minutes. I'm sure it has nothing to do with you.

2) "I've known so many like him" is extremely pretentious and particularly galling, as you literally know nothing about him other than 1) great football player and 2) arrested. I am not arguing that this ends well, in fact, I suspect quite the opposite. But to act like you have some special knowledge about him (or Dorsey's environment) is ridiculous.

for a good pun, which yours is. This knucklehead's downward spiral has been dramatic. Grabbing money out of the hands of pizza delivery guys? C'mon. I know it's easy for me to say, but if I had the athletic ability to earn a football scholarship to one of the greatest universities in the world, I wouldn't throw it away.

Steve Lorenz

April 20th, 2010 at 5:21 PM ^

At least he's former and not current. Still too bad.

Edit: When I say too bad, I am referring to the victims, not Cissoko himself. He made a choice to commit armed robbery and won't find any sympathy from me. Provided he's guilty of course but it looks pretty clear.

MGoJohn

April 20th, 2010 at 5:30 PM ^

Not really, thats why hes was caught by police, lack of elite long speed.

too soon?

Anyway, I really wish that getting kicked off the team would have been a wakeup call to turn his life around. Its a shame when people get such opportunities and just throw them away. Hopefully this will be the rock bottom and he can still grow up and become a productive member of society.

It's really sad to see a life that had such potential even a year ago being flushed away by, well, who knows by what. But I hope for his own sake that Cissoko gets his shit together, even if that means a stay in jail.
