Forde on the "Coaching Carousel"

Submitted by DeBored on

So Pat Forde took a lap around the NCAA to talk about coaches, hot seats, rumors, etc.  Obviously Michigan was featured, and surprisingly he said the following:

"So what to do? Dash colleague Dan Wetzel already has unilaterally nominated Stoops for the Michigan job – and it actually makes a lot of sense."

Later on he stated that if Harbaugh and Miles won't come we should go after Mullen (duh) and if he doesn't come, possibly Schiano (KILL ME NOW!)

The Stoops to Michigan bandwagon has another writer on board.  I'm wondering if there isn't some commotion going on behind the scenes here.  Is someone close to Stoops feeding these writers with info?

That's the "unilateral" part.  The writers just make stuff up in their heads and then report on what they just made up.

They don't even wait for baseless rumors anymore.

Exibit A:  Stoops "rumors" that are nothing more than a couple of reporters thinking out loud that maybe he should try something new so as not to get stale.

Nobody actually said anything in the Stoops camp.  There are no sources.  There are not even any rumors.  Just guys thinking out loud and then writing about it.

I disagree... it's too suspicious that three writers have independently hit on this idea that Bob Stoops needs a change of scenary and that Michigan or Florida should be looking at him.

I'm not saying STOOPS IS COMING U GUYZ, but I am saying STOOPS' AGENT IS UP 2 SOMETHING U GUYZ because honestly that's the only reason guys with the profile of Wetzel and Forde would toss that tidbit out there.

as we may assume.  Yes, i did go to OU and have many friends down in that neck of the woods still.  there are rumblings similar to the rumblings towards the end of Lloyd's run here. They arent saying that he is gone or that he is on the hot seat, but the natives in Norman are getting restless with the appearent lack of title game appearances.

similar to Brodie, I AM NOT SAYING he's coming prepare the way, but it might not be as far fetched as we may believe.

i still think one of the Harbaugh's will more than likely be the next coach, if i were a betting man.  BUT I am NOT betting on who will be the next coach; I have learned my lesson from the last two times.

Stoops' resume is quite a bit more impressive to me.

+124 Win/Loss to Lloyd's +82

8-7 Bowl Record to Lloyd's 6-7 (meh.)

Stoops' 12 years with double digit wins is nearly double that of Carr's (6 in 13 years)

Both have one early career championship, but Stoops had another shot in the same decade

If we are considering AP rankings, then Stoops has eight top 6 finishes including three top 3. Carr has three in the top 6 and one top 3.

Listen Stoops has been at OU for a very long time and in reality hasnt done anything out of ordinary since they last won the NC in 2000. Yes he always competes/wins the Big12, goes to a big bowl and wins them most of the time BUT he still comes short of going to the big one. Dont get me wrong he is a great coach and has made OU football a powerhouse, but maybe just maybe its time to try something new.
If he was to come here, he would def not have many obsticles that would stop him from winning. Osu could be the only team since big ten is soo bad. In big12 he has to constantly face hard teams. If i was the new AD i would seriously offer Stoops the job. Shit i would go through the list of the best coaches and call every single one of them. This programs needs to win now before its too late

Stoops also had Oklahoma in the National Title game after the 2003, 2004 and 2008 seasons.  He lost 21-14 to Saban's LSU squad, 55-19 to Carroll's USC team, and 24-14 to Meyer's Florida team.  I would say making the National Title game 4 times is pretty impressive.  But even if not, its definitely, out of the ordinary.  That may be the most any team made it in the BCS era.

All I have to say about Pat Forde is that he said that Notre Dame would beat Alabama in the NC game a couple years back -- and he was dead serious about it, and 100% convinced. So...anything he says, I usually ignore.

Seriously, nobody is going to fix this team until they fix the QB position. Hoke's losses might be half due to Devin's incapability as a QB. Shane is not that much better on the field.

Borges called a terrible game too. I think the problem is QB play but I can't blame coaching bc some of the mistakes are so comical I can't blame a coach for them. Like that throw away floating spike thing that got picked was just miserable decision making. Idk what's wrong with Devin but our OC has always had improved QBs when he got there so I can't say after 1 yr it's his fault. Gardner just seems to freak out every single snap and play with zero confidence.
