FORBES: 5 Ways Jim Harbaugh Is Disrupting College Football

Submitted by othernel on

I love the fact that our HC is getting press from not sports outlets. It's got to tweak the other coaches to no end.

For the business set, an article that talks about how Harbaugh is breaking a lot of the conventions at UM and across college football;

This is in no way thread-worthy, but here seemed like as good a place to post this as any.

To hype Denzel Valentine as POY, MSU is sending out informational packets to folks around the country. Included therein, they are sending out an MSU branded "multi-purpose tool" to highlight Valentine's "versatility." Here is the link: http://michiganstate.247sports.com/Bolt/MSU-sends-out-multi-purpose-too…

So there you have it, folks: Even MSU's own staff and administration concede that Denzel Valentine is a giant stupid looking tool...

First sentence in that article...

"Jim Harbaugh, head football coach of the Michigan Wolverines, is not playing by the rules."

...would seem to imply that he's breaking rules, which is totally untrue. He's clearly playing creatively within the rules, with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind.

May I suggest, "James Joseph "Jim" Harbaugh, the Ira and Nicki Harris Family Head Football Coach at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, U.S.A., although playing by the rules officially enacted by the National Collegiate Athletic Association to govern the practices of recruiting high school athletes to play college football, is nevertheless ignoring the unwritten (and therefore unenforceable) rules that may or may not have governed the practice for an undefined period of time up until this point."

running the football team at UM is probably no different. I'm sure he could be a consultant for Fortune 500 companies or make a living as a motivational speaker.

think outside the box, seek competitive advantage, eradicate complacency, strive for excellence, lead by example

Word usages I hate: (1) disrupt for anything other than the creation of an actual noisy disturbance, and (2) curate for anything other than the organization of a literal museum exhibition/collection. Also get off my lawn.

He's entering areas with talent (SEC country) with the IMG practices you may have heard of. He's being an active, hands on coach in practice, he's forcing player competition at all positions, no gifting of playing time. He's using programs like Signing of the Stars to bring interest and finally doing anything to close the deal with recruits, e.g., sleepovers and tree climbing.
