Football visitors this week/weekend
I get antsy when there's not much talk about football, so here goes:
In addition to having camps this weekend, Michigan is also putting together a pretty nice list of visitors this week(end). I feel like Michigan recruiting has been pretty slow since they went to Rome, but things seem to be picking back up at this point.
Well since you're obviously a visitor aficionado - what's your favorite visitor?
I am choosing to not take these other aficionado threads personally... I'm assuming good spirited joking, and boredom? lol
After The Fugitive re-posted his flame out thread I was hoping you could go that direction too, such potential. Stop with all this being an adult stuff.
I definitely considered losing my damn mind about it. Then I actually got busy at work, so.. the rage subsided. It'll happen someday though, rest assured. I will eventually melt down.
My favorite visitor is the guy who delivers me Thai food.
Try the General Tsao at Thai City in Westland. That stuff is money. I don't know why they call it General Tsao. It doesn't have that typical garlic sauce.
Nah. Pronouncing General "Tso" is too difficult. Is it Ts-oh? Is it Ts-ow? Is it Soh? Sow? Nobody knows!
If the menu has numbers, I just order and say "Give me that #9."
who's your favorite visitor this weekend?
Really like McGrone's film. He looks like a Don Brown LB.
I'm all in favor of us taking an LB from Florida named David Reese after Florida got an LB David Reese from Michigan.
Also, I think Dobbs is supposed to be on campus as well.
McGrone's name is amaze.
Good to hear Dobbs on campus. I think osu fans are to used to getting there way and still think there getting Dobbs and Rumler. I think there both in and just a matter of time. Add in both Browns and there's your o-line haul. I think numbers are going to be the only thing holding us from the #1 class in 2019 but it is going to be lights out. A little patience and Michigan will dominate again, that I am confident of.
Just read Zach Harrison is visiting. If Michigan can pull this guy, the ohio faithful will lose there freakin minds. This guy is right up there with Gary. If Michigan starts winning these battles.......oh man. Starting to get a little exciting around here.
Know him and he's always decked out in OSU stuff. Would give me a hard time for my Michigan stuff.
Yeah, I agree on McGrone. He's a good looking LB.
I added Dobbs. Thanks.
Best Birthday Ever by receiving an offer
from The University of Michigan
I have a favorite, but I'm waiting you guys to tell me yours.
was interesting. Is there anyone still around the program from his playing days? I remember, when he was the starter for 1 game, and then Mike Hart took a handoff.
I believe Drake Johnson was a RS Sophomore when Underwood was here. So he was the last.
Ummm...Jon Falk?
I thank you
seem to have a definite style of OL target now: tall, athletic, and under-weight. It's nice to see more of an identity with Frey here.
This identity of OL recruits makes sense to me. I suppose some kids just have freakishly high metabolisms and can never gain weight. But it seems to me that if given a choice of trying to get a kid to lose 50lbs of bad weight/then gain 40 lbs of good weight, versus getting a kid to just add 50 lbs of good weight, the second would be easier than the first, for two reasons:
- The first one is a net 90lb swing. I know that the change is simultaneous, and I'm no nutritionist, but it seems to be dropping 50lb then gaining 40lb. is just a lot harder/takes longer than just gaining the good weight.
- It seems to me if a kid is too big/sloppy, then part of the dynamic involves a kid who just likes to indulge in junk/comfort food. So trying to slim down a kid depends on self-control & possibly getting a handle on compulsive food eating issues, whereas it seems to me, convincing the slim kid to eat that extra few thousand calories of protein might not be as difficult.
So bottom line is, it seems to me that statistically getting a kid to add good weight only would be an easier/more reliable pathway than it would be to get a kid to drop bad weight & then build him up again. The only thing you're risking w/ the lean/athletic kid is the risk that he's either got a freakishly high metabolism or that his athleticism drops precipitously once he adds 40lbs-50lbs of muscle.
I think they just want big-framed, athletic guys, and 1-2 happen to be a little lighter this cycle depending on just how huge Mayfield is (something on here said he was up to 270?). If Wilson and Leatherwood were in this cycle the staff wouldn't be ignoring them.
Seems more like a continuation of what they've been trying to do along the OL more than a new Frey direction (all the better Frey has a track record with similar builds). It's not like recruiting big tall guys who need to add some weight is a new idea in tackle recruiting.
on the signing day podcast that they didn't go hard enough after Foster Sarell and Walker Little last cycle.
I still think there's been a shift, but I don't know how I'd quantify it. Maybe out of region recruits/commits?
I don't mind the more agile lighter O-line prospects, but big Dan Faalele would be a sure thing against the giant D-linemen we seem to find 2-3 times per year. Seems like every now and then we find an immovable object, where the only counter is to find a bigger/stronger object. I'm pretty sure Faalele will be a monster after a few months with our staff and training
Giant athletic freak is not enough to cut it in a pro style system. Ask Greg Robinson. I'm not saying anything about Faalele or his skill or potential. But it doesn't matter if you're a literal giant who could jump out of a gym if guys can run around you in every single play. The kid has a lot of work to do just to pick up simple things that are muscle memory to most other division I tackles.
The only sure thing in OL recruiting is that there's no sure thing.
About time we land a #1 back again
Nevermind. Looks like the ND insider was not correct.
the Big House both Friday and Saturday for the camps. I'm eating some Cape Cod Mesquite Kettle chips so I might put on 1/2 pound of good weight if anyone cares. Seriously though, most of you would be drooling over the display they had set up in the locker room for the QB and Skills camp last weekend -- about 30 game worn jerseys of the all time UM greats. Woodson, Hart, Long , Peppers, Lewan, Robinson, Butt, Funchess, Ryan, Rudock etc. In front of each jersey was a different Nike / Jumpman shoe . I'll try to get pix or a video for posting on Sunday.
I look forward to it.
...so fetch!
Stop trying to make "fetch" happen.
Hoping Rumler commits this weekend and starts the 2019 class off right.
What is wrong with you interrupting ylthe afficianado threads with actual football news?
Username checks out
I'm sorry.
It will not happen again.
I know it's over a month away, but that usually causes some buckling up.
GO BLUE!!
Magnus I am confused, is Simon visiting again this weekend?. I hope so, we need to lock him down. Love sherwood who is way underated. Cain and Rumler would be nice to add to what is going to be a stellar 2019 class. Rumler is a beast and Cain is special and the plus is osu wants both bad.
Simon looks to be ticketed for South Bend. Even Ace just put in a crystal ball for him to ND. Bahhumbug.
Simon visited last weekend, but I didn't put him on last weekend's list because I didn't find out he visited until yesterday.
Do you have any insight on our chances with Cain? My eyes popped wide open watching that film you posted. That kid is a mix of bull and rabbit. I'm convinced of it.
It's hard to say without him having finished a visit. I think he just arrived this morning. I think Michigan is roughly in his top 6 or so, but probably not at the top before the visit. We'll see how this weekend goes.
Rumler, from what I've read and can extrapolate from 247, is leaning Michigan pretty hard. I think Simon just needs to get on campus. Mom and Aunt are in favor of the good guys. Cain, man. I can only hope.
I'm still waiting on Tre'Shawn Harris' visit. I want that kid in Maize and Blue SO BAD.
Yeah, he's a great player. It seems like he'll end up at Oregon, though.
...and he did end up committing to Oregon. Shucks.
