I don't see anywhere else reporting it. To have no one else saying anything seems like a sign.
January 7th, 2015 at 5:28 PM ^
If Harbaugh indeed wants this guy, then I hope it's true. But I'll be OK with him not wanting him, not because I have any negative opinion of the guy, only because I'll enjoy seeing these people look like asshats again.

San Jose State University(?) has been hired as offensive coordinator(?). Link to find out more info here ________.
F it I'll just Google it. Thanks.
January 7th, 2015 at 5:06 PM ^
Linking to Football Scoop should be a no-no just like linking to chatsports.
January 7th, 2015 at 5:16 PM ^
If the OP wants to start a discussion without us linking to the site, it should be more informative. But if it's all garbage anyway, why do an "Oh! They're at it again!" post??
Isn't that exactly what Football Scoop wants to happen? We complain and compain about these sites but we're the enablers.
January 7th, 2015 at 5:26 PM ^
I think even mentioning them should be banned, but if it's going to be mentioned, at least doing it this way means not giving them clicks.

Football Scoop stinks more than Al Sharpton's flip flop.
January 7th, 2015 at 5:10 PM ^
Why does Al Sharpton's flip flop stink so much, and what happened to the other one?
January 7th, 2015 at 5:13 PM ^
You should smell his work out crocs.
January 7th, 2015 at 11:40 PM ^
You would think someone who is has made millions exploiting ignorance could afford foot attire that doesnt stink. So could Al.

Atleast,Gil Brandt knew it was time to quit...
January 7th, 2015 at 5:05 PM ^
24/7 reported it about twenty minutes ago
January 7th, 2015 at 5:06 PM ^
Did they use FootballScoop as their source? If I remember correctly, they did that a few days ago.
January 7th, 2015 at 5:13 PM ^
Yes, they did
January 7th, 2015 at 5:07 PM ^
Their source is the Football Scoop though, so again, giant boulder of salt.
January 7th, 2015 at 6:35 PM ^
That's the article, I was referring to.
January 7th, 2015 at 5:07 PM ^
That Borges is replacing him at SJSU.
January 7th, 2015 at 5:09 PM ^
Not enough points myself to post new thread. Think this is worth one to feed Dougherty claim and give an update on an old "friend.

Well, if true about Borges replacing him, at least Big Al can get back to Cali where he can show off his swimsuit physique.
January 7th, 2015 at 5:19 PM ^
Man, how'd this guy slip through the cracks of the Power 5 conferences???
January 7th, 2015 at 5:36 PM ^
The San Jose Mercury Times ran with this too, but also used FootballScoop - as others have mentioned, so far this appears to be the only outfit going with this report, but if anyone finds some confirmation from a source that isn't FootballScoop, do feel free to post it.
If anyone is wondering, FootballScoop was never on the "instantly coming down list" per se, but it did become evident throughout December that they weren't going to bother with checking sources outside of whatever they had.

...do we still owe him money from his UM contract?
January 7th, 2015 at 5:18 PM ^
We bounced him and his beach body with one year left on his contract.

We have Florida and SEC territory covered.(Durkin)
We have California and PAC 10 territory covered.(Harbaugh)
We have Maryland and ACC territory covered. (Manning)
We have Michigan and most Big Ten territtory covered. (Wheatley)
That is four out of the major five conference areas. What we lack is an Ohio recruiting specialist, and a Texas recruiting specialist. The Ohio guy was supposed to be Marrow, but having that fall through, we need another guy that can recruit the area.
We also need a great recruiter who can get kids out of Texas, that used to be Mattison's territory years ago, but he seems to have lost his connections there, for when was the last time that we pulled a blue chip player out of Texas ? By all means, get the best coaches available to coach these kids, but it would not hurt to have somebody that can recruit Texas as well, for they produce some of the best players in the nation, and we are missing out.
Louisiana too.
January 7th, 2015 at 5:30 PM ^
Durkin is from Ohio, though I don't know what kind of ties he's maintained. I'm sure someone here does.
January 7th, 2015 at 5:32 PM ^
Durkin is an Ohio guy. It would be great to have a Texas connection though.
January 7th, 2015 at 5:40 PM ^
Wasn't Mattison over Ohio with Hoke?
January 7th, 2015 at 5:51 PM ^
I see your point. And it is a good one. But, I have read that Harbaugh does not assign geographic regions to individual coaches. Rather, he has each coach recruit their position, regardless of where the player is located.
Personally, I like the Harbaugh approach as who would be a better evaluator and recruiter of a particular position than the guy that specializes on that position?
That said, your point re: geographic connections may still be relevant as having a coach with ties to a specific region might help get our position coach an audience (or coach recommendation) for a particular recruit. For example, if TW spots a hot RB out of Florida, having Durkin call the kids coach who he likely knows to put in the good word and set up the contact might be helpful.
January 7th, 2015 at 7:35 PM ^
You can have more than one guy recruit a kid so maybe they will have regional secondary recruiters
January 7th, 2015 at 5:55 PM ^
Sam posted on GBW that he was in town the same day he posted that Durkin and Drevno showed up. When was that? Like Saturday night? Safe bet he is on staff.
January 7th, 2015 at 6:09 PM ^
So they say...
"Michigan: Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Jim Harbaugh has offered the quarterbacks position to San Jose State offensive coordinator Jimmie Dougherty."
Like Brian said, why on Earth would we hire a QBs coach? This seems weird, unless JH wants a "yes man" to do what he tells him to do.
January 7th, 2015 at 6:57 PM ^
And he'll coach either WRs or TEs like he did the last time he coached with Harbaugh.
January 7th, 2015 at 7:12 PM ^
co-OC (run) | Tim Drevno | co-DC | DJ Durkin |
co-OC (pass) | Jimmie Dougherty | co-DC | Greg Mattison |
QB | Jim Harbaugh | DT | Greg Mattison |
RB | Tyrone Wheatley | DE/OLB | Roy Manning |
WR | John Morton | ILB | DJ Durkin |
OL | Tim Drevno | DB | Greg Jackson |
TE | Jimmie Dougherty | ST | John Baxter |
or
co-OC (run) | Tim Drevno | co-DC | DJ Durkin |

RB | Tyrone Wheatley | LB | DJ Durkin |

...here's at least my predictions given all the names floated. I'll take either one. 10 very solid coaches.
January 7th, 2015 at 7:31 PM ^
Given a choice I think I would take Option 1, but both look pretty damn impressive to me.
Although, everytime I see the name John Morton it reminds me of the Rock n Roll Express and Ricky Morton's (rumored) huge cocaine habit... Ahhh the 80's...

Haven't we all basically come to the understanding this site doesn't know anything? Plus, he acted like an ass when people called him out here for his numerous missteps, so I don't understand why anyone still takes seriously regarding Michigan.
January 7th, 2015 at 11:13 PM ^
so FS staffers can't come troll here again when we call them out for being wrong. Still waiting for Joe Moglia to get his big interview with Michigan
