Football Pool for MGoBloggers

Submitted by jamiemac on
Morning everyone. In case you have not noticed, it's game week. I hope we've been practicing enough and are ready. Anyway, at various times posters have expressed an interest in a football poll with something along the lines of MGo points at stake. I dont like the point idea, but I LOVE the idea of a football pool. Here are my ideas: 1.) I will list something like a dozen games with the spread. Each of us has to pick 4 games. You have the option among those four, to label one pick as a double play. So, there are five total points (a general term here, not mgo points) up for grabs each week. I will keep a running total, produce updated standings each week and then release a new set of games. As we get into the season, the stakes will be raised--like every game is worth two points with an option with one three-point play. Something like that. 2.) This might be a bit more complicated, but it is Michigan centric, which might make our Fearless Leader feel a bit better about turning his forum section into a gambling parlor. LOL. Anyway, what I will do is take a look at the week's Michigan game. I will produce stat lines for players and/or teams and we would have to pick either Over or Under those stats. For example: Brandon Minor rushing yards, O/U 99.5. The scoring would be the same as above. Pick 4 off the list, with the ability to do a double play. The second option is a bit harder on the moderator as far as coming up with the various stats. But, it could end up being more fun than merely picking games. What are the stakes? How about pride, folks? Seriously, I wont ask for entry fees. It will be free. You will just have to trust me that I will come up with a good prize for the winner and second runner up. And, maybe a booby prize for the last guy. Any thoughts? Lets figure out a game for us all to play and I will be more than willing to run the pool. Otherwise, back to practice bitches! We have Western in a few days. And, you know what that means, right? Trouble for the Broncos!

I like option 1 the most, but 2 would be fun as well. One idea for option 1, instead of doing points, why not give everyone 200 "mgodollars" or something and let everyone place their own wagers on the games. Obviously going to be more work for you, but it could be fun to see the strategery at work.

I like this. I can't think of a more appropriate jamiemac contest than who can make the most "money" betting on games. To make it easier for whoever runs it, maybe we could just count on everyone to honestly keep track of their own total, although I'm sure there will be some instance of someone wrongly adding to their total, be it by mistake or on purpose.

same here. I was quite excited at the fact that we may have a users-only pool. Dreams have been crushed with this new football related betting activity some people call a pool. I guess I'd be down for either option, though. Doesn't matter at all, it's still going to be a let down from the aquatic pool idea. Is there anyway we could just fill the big house one weekend half full and then watch an away game on the big screen? That could be awesome.
