Football Geeks: Do we have an official name for that one-man play action thing Denard does?
See: Thread Title.
Seriously, this play alone is worth keeping Coach Rod on. It is pure genius, and literally makes me squeal like Dennis Nedry when Dodgson pulls out the Shaving Cream Can. This is totally unfair to opposing defenses and I love, love, love it! It's gotta be hard for Rod/Magee to not call it more often than they do.
Can't wait to see 'the play,' for lack of a better description, in The Shoe a few weeks from now!

You might call it QB Iso Play Action. Tebow did it all the time.
November 8th, 2010 at 8:04 PM ^
This is exactly what I refer to it as.
November 8th, 2010 at 8:20 PM ^
This is not the Tebow play. Tebow faked into the line and then cam back like a play action. Denard is passing while moving forward.
We'll call it "wicked awesome".
November 8th, 2010 at 8:32 PM ^
i bet he did it too. it looks like a jump pass that they used to do back in the 30s-40s.
November 8th, 2010 at 11:30 PM ^
Or "F#ck Yeah!"
November 8th, 2010 at 10:54 PM ^
the blocking scheme, you probably just call it by the same play and then attach "pass" or "pass option" on the end. on the interception thrown behind koger we had a lineman downfield. this tells me that denard has a run/pass option there.
If I was calling it for a highschool team it'd probably be "Slot right, 18 dive pass" usually the first number indicates which back takes it 1 = QB and the second number is for the hole, in this case outside the TE. I'm sure in college there's longer calls for the receiver routes and the blocking package.
November 8th, 2010 at 7:45 PM ^
That Nedry analogy was brilliant, by the way.
November 8th, 2010 at 8:10 PM ^
I second the Dennis Nedry reference. Robert Muldoon is the sole reason why I'll be using the Spas 12 on Black Ops for the next 4 months.
November 8th, 2010 at 8:18 PM ^
I'm snarin' that shit in less than 4 hours! Can't wait!
November 8th, 2010 at 9:42 PM ^
Don't get cheap on me, Dodgson.
November 8th, 2010 at 8:17 PM ^
Clever Girl.
November 8th, 2010 at 10:31 PM ^
Dodgson! We have Dodgson here!
November 8th, 2010 at 10:39 PM ^
See, nobody cares. Nice hat.
November 9th, 2010 at 7:58 AM ^
I'm gonna run you over when I come back down.
November 8th, 2010 at 7:46 PM ^
Granted I never played past high school - but I did play in multiple offenses, and in all of them play action was either referred to as "play action" or something of that regard (like "35 fake 61 smash," with "35 fake" being the play action and "61 smash" being the throw)
November 8th, 2010 at 7:47 PM ^
I call it "Kevin."
November 8th, 2010 at 7:58 PM ^
I second the motion for it to be called 'Kevin'
November 9th, 2010 at 8:03 AM ^
We are being teased with a Denard run only to find out it is really a pass. It gets me allo hot and bothered either way, so I'm not mad about the play - just confused and frustrated. See! The play is obviously a girl! A sneaky, manipulative, sexy girl of a play!
November 8th, 2010 at 7:50 PM ^
I call it AWESOME. It is a great play, and I eagerly await watching Tressel try to figure out a way to stop it and failing.
November 8th, 2010 at 7:54 PM ^
APPROPRIATE it.
November 8th, 2010 at 7:54 PM ^
I always yell "tuck and chuck" when he does it. Not technical enough though.
November 8th, 2010 at 8:02 PM ^
Time to bring the heat or give em the heater
November 8th, 2010 at 8:06 PM ^
"Carlos" It looks like a Carlos!
November 8th, 2010 at 10:08 PM ^
I'm watching that part right now as I read this.....weird!
November 9th, 2010 at 1:15 AM ^
It's a sign. Michigan is going to Carlos at least 7 times versus Purdue.
November 9th, 2010 at 8:05 AM ^
is gonna fuck some shit up on Saturday! Fo sho!
November 8th, 2010 at 8:14 PM ^
It's called "6 points".
Zing!
November 8th, 2010 at 9:12 PM ^
Time was, I was going to call it "ND-6." No more. Too many other choices.
November 8th, 2010 at 8:15 PM ^
There are a couple of schools in our district that have their QB do the Tebow thing where he'll take one hard step toward the LOS and then drop back and throw. Our staff refers to that as "Stab". What Denard does is throw on the run after making it look like a Q Stretch or Iso. Kinda different but I like the "Stab" reference because it does drive a knife into the defense!
November 8th, 2010 at 8:18 PM ^
I'm pretty sure the Florida play involved Tebow taking a step forward before taking a step back and throwing (similar to the 97 yard Roundtree TD in the spring game). On the other hand, our play involves Denard throwing without taking a step back, which makes the play a lot more dangerous.
November 8th, 2010 at 8:24 PM ^
i call it the " qb iso LOL JK"
November 8th, 2010 at 8:28 PM ^
I'm in favor of calling it a "Denard."
November 8th, 2010 at 8:30 PM ^
Touchdown.
November 8th, 2010 at 8:32 PM ^
my roommate's bf and I have been calling it "the run pass" all season
November 8th, 2010 at 8:32 PM ^

6 minutes to the end of the opponent's world? I like it
November 8th, 2010 at 9:07 PM ^
doomsday...that too.
I was thinking I get all excited when I see this play developing to the tune of six to midnight.
November 8th, 2010 at 8:50 PM ^
Dilithium Deception?
November 8th, 2010 at 9:03 PM ^
has there been an instance, other than the bad throw to Martell that was picked off, of this play not being a complete success? I can't think of any off the top of my head.
sticking with the JP references, 'Clever Girl' will be what I heretofor refer to said play as. It's fucking brilliant.
November 8th, 2010 at 10:59 PM ^
a couple times where the safety jumped the route. (during the 3 game lack of awesome streak).
But the adjustment to that is easy because all denard has to do is give it a pump and the safety is toast. nice crispy toast.
