Football Bust and Impact on Timing

Submitted by UM Indy on

Haven't seen this discussed so thought I would throw it out there.  I suspect that Brady won't be relieved of his duties until after the football bust a week from today.  It's not the Michigan way to be rude like that.

EDIT:  To be clear, I'm not endorsing this approach, I just think it's the way it will play out.

if Michigan is making moves behind the scenes and gauging interest from other coaches. They can use the banquet as an excuse as to why Hoke wasn't fired yet. Also, Harbaugh may need to lose for another week and Stoops is coaching next weekend.

I just received an email from U-M that tomorrow is "Giving Blue Day". Does anyone else find it extremely ironic that tomorrow is Giving Blueday? Maybe they are trying to raise enough for Hoke's buyout?

Can we start with "Fire Hoke Monday" moving into "Giving Blue Tuesday" then finish strong with "Hire someone competent Wednesday"?

I don't think anybody can argue that Hoke has been a man of the highest character and a great mentor, father figure to his student-athletes.  At the same time, other than his wife, staff and probably most of the team, there's virtually nobody that wants or expects him to be kept on. So, for Hoke to preside over the banquet next week would be painfully awkward.  And yet, it would be a shame for him not to be there with and for his team.

The way to smooth all of this over is to announce this week that he's been relieved of his coaching duties, that a search for a new coach has begun and that Brady will stay on to continue with his administrative duties until the new coach is named.

In other words, everybody knows he's finished, so make it official while at the same time not turning the banquet into a funeral.  It should be more like a memorial.  A lot of good things happened in the last four years, a great win-loss record not being one of them.

Top choices aren't available right now whether the vacancy is official or not. Everyone knows there is a vacancy. If they were gonna cut him loose early it should have been done during the season. I thought the Utah game is when it should have happened. They could have named an interim and had just as much of a disappointing season the fired the whole staff at the end of the season. That they have not dropped the hammer makes me think good things are happening. Maybe they keep Hoke until January then hire/fire in a few hours? Maybe they cut hjim loose Dec31 to give him a $1M handshake? Either way, the next coach is not available to accept at this time so there's no reason cut him loose except to make a bunch of bloggers happy.

In discussing" the Hoke" with the family over Thanksgiving, I stated that the timing of the bust would play a part in Hoke's departure. I agree that he won't be relieved of his duties until after the bust. I also mentioned this in an earlier thread.

After all, we can't let him go before he names Captains!
