Football Bust and Impact on Timing

Submitted by UM Indy on

Haven't seen this discussed so thought I would throw it out there.  I suspect that Brady won't be relieved of his duties until after the football bust a week from today.  It's not the Michigan way to be rude like that.

EDIT:  To be clear, I'm not endorsing this approach, I just think it's the way it will play out.

It should be pretty easy (and possibly what's delaying the announcement) to negotiate that buy-out down to the Jan 1, 2015 level anyway.  Just go to Hoke (or his agent) and say this is the deal - you can take it now, or we can drag this out another month.  Waiting a month hurts Hoke's chances at a new position too.  It would be worth it to make his exit cleaner, smoother and sooner, rather than messy and later.

I saw Tulsa just axed their coach.  I could see him there.  I could see him landing any non-power 5 head coaching spots.

His biggest challenge is going to be that he has no DC experience.  I think that will prevent him from landing any coordinator spots, so he'll either be a  DL coach in the NFL or power 5 school...or a head coach at a smaller school.

Just because it didn't work out here doesn't mean that he can't be a head coach again.  I think he's good enough to learn from his mistakes.

What is your point, that because Rich Rod sat out a year that Hoke will or should too?  If I remember correctly, we got curb stomped by Miss. St. in the Outback Bowl that year.  That would have left RR potentially 1 less month to find another spot.

Don't mistake how selective someone is with their next job with a lack of ability to find a next job

The 4 million means nothing and let's string along our remaining recruits and players and let them think Hoke is staying for 1 more week because that's nice too.

Glaciers move faster than this university. He can still come to the cocktail hour and bad wedding reception chicken dinner if he's fired today. This line of thinking makes no fucking sense, but unfortunately for the powers at be it's probably their only line of thinking.

If Hoke went 9-3 I think UM would be throwing him a parade... it shows you that some other schools are more serious about winning football games than Michigan.

I was a little concerned when Hackett was made AD because I was worried he would try to come in and calm things down without making significant changes to the staff, if he doesn't fire him today, maybe it isn't coming at all?

I have been wondering about this as well. On the one hand, you don't want to let him hand around and get a public forum for an impassioned plea to stay, but on the other hand, don't you want someone who knows the kids and can say something nice about them? It's not like you can fire him and say, "Come to the bust anyway and speak nicely about the kids, but don't say anything about being fired." I imagine that right now, Hackett and Hoke are working out the details of his departure and it will be very much like DB's departure, in that Hackett will say, "Brady and I have talked and he came to the conclusion it's better for the team if he leaves." When this will happen, I don't know.

I don't know Brady Hoke as a person, only as a media figure. Maybe he is the guy that could go in after being fired, say nice things and not be bitter about losing his job. I think any organization would really be hesitant about bringing a recently fired employee back to give speeches about other people - it will be awkward, uncomfortable and you never know who is going to go nuts and say things totally inappropriate. I think even if he isn't fired by then it will be awkward and uncomfortable.

Non-issue. The bust will be in fact be more meaningful if its Brady's last. The professional approach is to do what Hackett already stated and evaluate him after the season. This is now after the season.

Brady will have his money, but on behalf of the assistants, I believe Hackett knows its kindest to them to let the staff go today.  Then they can start their seach immediately (although, I suppose they may have already).
