One of my favorite Michigan bowl games. After all the injuries that year, App State, the hype of Henne, Hart and Long returning and it being Carr's last game made it memorable. Also beating the defending national champions made it great. I could watch this game over as well. It definitely was exciting!

Theyre also playing the 98 Rose Bowl later, and they just finished the 84 UM-ND game (I dont know if its being replayed). I'm watching them all, because I miss football so much

I loved that mike hart had half of his career fumbles in this game (approximately). He was about ready to die if we lost the game.

We pick up the game midway throught the first quarter........

Debord (looking at playbook one last time): "Hey Lloyd....remember THIS play?  Holy crap we've never run it...can I call it just for laughs?"

Carr(frowing): "What the Hell...last game and all...go ahead"

Debord(excited): "Holy shit Lloyd....that thing worked...let me see if there's anything else in here we haven't used"

Carr(astonished look on face): "Look in the back Mike.  Pretty sure there's stuff back there we can try"

Debord (mouth open in amazement): "Damn Lloyd...there's at least 50 fricken pages of plays we've never used.  Can I keep calling them?

Carr (shaking head in mild disapproval): "You can...but the FIRST time one doesn't work you know what to do"

Debord (grinning): Dive tackle right...zone blocking.....yes Lloyd...I know what to do."

You know me being kind of a "youngster" I remember this being the game in which I really became a diehard Michigan fan. Yes there was the MSU game where I talked my family into staying for because I had a feeling about it but this game really is the first monumental win that I saw and really understood what Michigan was all about. This game is the reason why mgoblog is my homepage.

Even though it wasn't a BCS game, I would rank it 3 in all time favorite Michigan bowl victories behind the 1998 Rose Bowl (Obvs) and the 2000 (Orange).  We really needed the victory, and it showed that Michigan could play with anyone on a good day.

Also, it felt like Michigan could have won in a blowout -- two fumbles inside the 10 made the score deceptively close.
