Flyover for Michigan ND game

Submitted by pullin4blue on
Calling Mgo Shoe, you seem to always know about the flyovers and if I'm not mistaken, you gave a link to the season's flyovers last year. I just heard on game day that there will be a flyover to commemerate 9-11. Does anyone have any idea about what aircraft will be doing the flyover?

The Yankee Air Force's C-47 Skytrain "Yankee Doodle Dandy" will conduct a pregame flyover and a two-soldier parachute team from the 101st Airborne Division (The Screaming Eagles) will drop into the stadium during the halftime program (one each in the two end zones). Prior to the game, the Michigan and Notre Dame NROTC Units will contest their annual flag football game on Friday, 9 Sep at 7 pm at Oosterbaan Fieldhouse. Stop by and cheer on your fellow students.

I don't know if it's related to the game or not, but I live in Toledo and I've heard the fighter jets overhead all morning.  There is a fighter wing out of Toledo Express Airport, but it's not that common to hear them flying this early on a Saturday.

How is the halftime parachute going to work in the dark  (halftime will probably be around 9:30-10:00 I should think)?  I have no doubt the soldiers can do it, I just don't see how we're going to see them.

Currently, a very low cloud ceiling.  Couldn't barely see the one banner plane I saw and that looks like it was headed back to the Ann Arbor airport.  Hopefully it will clear but it is not good now.

According to DUATS Terminal Forecasts:

Detroit Wayne County:

2 pm - 1,000 feet scattered, ceiling 2,500 broken, 4,000 overcast with visibility greater than 6 miles - occasionally 1,000 feet with light rain and visibility of 5 miles through 6 pm.

10 pm - 1,500 scattered, ceiling 12,000 feet broken with visibility 5 miles

Jackson:

2 pm - 2,000 feet scattered, ceiling 6,000 broken with visibility greater than 6 miles and showers in the vicinity- occasionally 1,900 feet broken through 6 pm.

11 pm - 500 scattered with visibility of 3 miles.

To fly, assuming they will be under visual flight rules, requires a minimum of 1,500 foot ceiling and 3 miles visibility.  I would guess they will be able to fly and not much of a chance of rain during the game.
