"I love it that Ivy League coaches are coming to our camp and Big Ten coaches are coming to our camp. South Florida is coming. We've got about 70 schools that are coming to our camp."
Floyd Raven's mom forged his LOI to Ole Miss
money defiantly has to be involved if his mom took that much of an action..
Money can be so defiant.
We dropped him right? K. This might give us some insight in to why...
I was going to post this a minute ago, but went to TIgerDroppings to confirm. Too little too late.
But on the real, that's messed up. I wonder if that is his excuse or if it really happened.
I did too. I specifically kept refreshing the board before I posted so I didn't get Bo Pelini-d.
WHat a dick. Supposedly he had his mom forge his signature on the Ole Miss LOI but sent a real one to TAMU.
EDIT - His mom did it. Nevermind. So the mom is the dick.
Oh and neg me away but it's pretty much useless.
Haha man oh man.. The drama that ensues..
I'm in no way saying this happened with Raven, but I wonder if other recruits will see this as an easy way to change their mind even after they signed. Anyone know if it happened before?
EDIT: Giving the kid the benefit of the doubt.
i was under the impression that LoI's are not contractually binding.
An lol is a factual representation that one is laughing out loud or just finished laughing out loud, not a promise to laugh out loud at some point in the future. Thus, there's no contract. If an individual tendering an lol is subsequently proven to have not actually laughed out loud, he may be liable for misrepresentation, but not for breach of contract.
For the older folks here, this might obliquely bring back memories of Sean Higgins' recruitment back in '86 - '87 (when he was a high school senior).
His mom and stepdad (like him, LA-based) wanted him to go to UCLA. His dad, who was somewhere in Michigan, wanted UMich (as did Sean, apparently). He signed with UCLA but claimed to have done so under duress. After an investigation by some body (NCAA?) he was released from his UCLA letter.
There was, of course, a relatively happy ending in 1989. :) He later played a few years in the NBA:
My personal favorite memory is when he and Glen Rice bombed Virginia in the regional final in '89. Good times ...
During his freshman year at Michigan, he supposedly told one of the recruits he was helping host that he made up the story just to get out of the letter. Who knows?
I guess she's not going to get that new car.
It makes me wonder why she wanted him to go to Ole Miss that badly?
I like the currency options available.
And we're not talking Sir Isaac here.
Blame it on good ol' Mom. I'm happy for TA&M getting such a "character" recruit. I'm sure he'll develop into a real leader and someone to be proud of.
look at you ripping on an 18 year old kid who you know nothing of besides his football stats
Signing day turns more into a circus every year. It won't be long before they make a reality show out of a few 5 stars picking what school they will attend. This will mark the beginning of the end when it happens.
Was the kid in on this and if he was, why?
I think the whole things is a joke. These are 17 and 18 year old kids. How many of the top 50 flame out every year? It is a joke. Look at guys like Ben Rothlesberger (not highly recruited) or even Alex Smith, who had 2 scholly offers and one of them only happened because of who is uncle was. Sites like Scouts, Rivals and ESPN are fun to watch but lets be honest, there is no way to evaluate a recruiting class until 3-4 years from now.
That has nothing to do with this situation and the recruiting sites' predictions, overall, are pretty reliable
don't they teach data analysis in the ford school?
who had zero schollie offer coming out of hs.
I guess this means that in four years, his mother will take the MCAT for him and he'll be reported as going to Harvard when in fact it is Johns Hopkins.
Wow. For her to do that, there must have been a lot of cash on the table.
I've got an A&M guy beside me and here's what happened - it's even more bizzare!
Floyd's mom grabs Ole Miss LOI and faxes it to Ole Miss
Floyd's mom realizes that she grabbed the A&M LOI and forged that and sent it to Ole Miss(!!)
Floyd's mom then claims to be having problems with a fax machine and goes off to find a new one
Floyd faxes in LOI to A&M from school
Floyd's mom faxes in new, correct (but still forged) LOI to Ole Miss
How would random A&M guy know this? Nonetheless, incredible story. Are Floyd and Mom feuding, or is she a little off the handle?
apple falls far from the tree.
I work with an Aggie too, and he spent a while trying to piece everything together. Bottom line, I don't want anything to do with that family if I'm a coach.
Well, we already know Ole Miss pays after the Newton thing(not caught paying, but clearly were in discussions) so I'm guessing that's the reason.
Not Ole Miss
Is that even legal?
That's messed up.
she has great pad level and a real nose for the endzone.
it would be great if they made her attend spring ball.
Maybe we're not giving her enough credit. I wonder if this was an opportunity to bilk some booster. What recourse would the booster have if he gave her some money to fax a LOI for her son, but it turned out to be faked? I'd love to know the whole details, but they probably won't ever surface.
I logged in specifically to post something to this effect, only to find I was beaten to the punch. Well done. I would +1, but of course I can't and it wouldn't count anyway.
EDIT: I clicked the reply button on the "That's So Raven" post and it didn't work. Oh, well.
what a douche. what kind of mother does that.
