Florida State Equals Michigan

WE KNOW HOW YOU FEEL. Georgia Tech blocks Field Goal. Returns forTD to win with no time. SERIOUSLY EMPATHIZE WITH YOU ALL SEMINOLES. One I know that messed up punctuation means something. I only mean they know how it feels to lose on the last play, and YES they were as stunned as us.

I have been amazed this week just how often that misinformation has been repeated and accepted as gospel truth simply because ONE website incorrectly claimed it.  My next door neighboor here in Ohio was talking to me yesterday about something completely unrelated and then he said something like "Oh man that game last week really sucked for you guys but I totally cant stand how your fans were issuing death threats to the punter.  I feel bad for the guy".

When I corrected him that were no death threats and what minor threats there were actually came from god-damn children with no association with the school he asked me "then why is everybody saying it?"  I asked him what source he had on the alleged threats and he said "I dunno - it's just what everybody says" and he's right.  In every interview I heard this week on the game (and I think I heard about 12,456 of them) EVERY SINGLE ONE at some point reference the 'death threats" and ashamed Michigan should be that our fans reacted like that.

If a lie is repeated often enough by enough people it becomes accepted as true.

Read Brian's post on this. "We" are not the handful of teenagers that tweeted at Blake. And believe me, if it was OSU's punter that cost them a game the wrath of the knuckle-dragging Buckeye Nation would have been exponentially more harsh. Same goes for the 'Noles, presumably.

While both versions of the Kick 6 were sensational and exciting plays... As far as devastation, it's not even close. FSU and Bama have both had recent national success and general domination, but here's the kicker... Both of those games were tied and, at best, headed to OT yet to be decided. Michigan held a 2 point lead with 10 seconds left and the ball. .2%. That means we were 99.8% likely to win. FSU and Bama weren't 99.8% to do shit in their games except run a play.

Ours was still worse: we were leading and lost; FSU could have still lost in OT; we were at home, FSU on the road; we lost to a hated rival. Now, MSU vs OSU can very easily be a play in game for the final four. Unless we stun the Bucks at home. Here s hoping.

Except that FSU is (was) #9, undefeated, with a clear chance to make the playoffs... until they lost to an unranked team with a losing record. As much as I'm still feeling last week's shock, FSU suffered more damage tonight.

we need to have happen to give us a shot at the playoffs should we win the B1G.  (Obviously, MSU needs to lose two.)

The one lesson the committee should have learned from last year is that the consensus can be dead wrong.  Remember the NFL division-like SEC West?  And the putrid B1G.  Oh, a B1G won the national championship in spite of being 10 point and 7 point dogs, the next top two B1G teams won their bowls, while the top 5 SEC West teams all lost their bowls.

What does this mean?  No mulligans.  Send four solid conference champions to the playoffs.

But clearly, should we win the B1G, we don't want to be the only two-loss conference champion (and we don't want Notre Dame with one loss).  So now if FSU beats Clemson but loses to Floriday, an 11-2 Michigan might sneak into the top 4 (should Stanford knock off ND or other league champs finish with two losses.)

As I've mentioned before, in 7 of 16 BCS years, the final pre-bowl BCS rankings included a two-loss team in the Top 4.  These tended to come in the early years, when the polls had less weight, and I think the committee is giving the polls less weight than the most recent BCS ranking scheme.

In spite of our excellent defense, we have the 90th ranked offense based on yards/game or 70th based on points/game. Have you noticed our long passing game? Do you honestly believe we are one of the top four teams?  I am delighted in the progress that Harbaugh has made, but I'm also a realist.

I have gone through most of the stages of grieving after last week, but I still don't feel much better about losing a game we should have won.

1. Florida State has been to two straight postseasons and won one. 2. Georgia Tech is a world-class school with a passionate but respectable fanbase. Michigan State is literally the exact opposite. 3. No. In short, to FSU fans I say "YOU KNOW NOTHING OF HELL"

This is 100x bigger.

  1. GT actually made the play and didn't luck into it on a mistake

  2. GT is unranked, 2-5 and FSU hadn't lost a regular season game since 2012

  3. FSU had the longest conference game winning streak in the country

Yeah, no

Ours was worse/bigger. We had a win up until the last play, GT only had OT up until the last play. Throw in the rivalry aspect, the one in a million aspect of everything, and I guarantee people are talking about our screw up wayyyy longer than GT-FSU

I never play this card, but I feel like I have to at this point. I know you aren't an alum, and this fact almost certainly affects your comprehension of the MSU game. Hell, I'm an out of state alumnus, and I am devastated by the UM-MSU outcome.

For any Michigan fan to suggest that the GT-Florida State outcome is "bigger" is ludicrous. I don't feel like this requires explanation because it is that crazy.

As a couple of people above have suggested, while they are similar on the surface, the FSU and U-M situations are different.  GT made a play.  MSU was handed a gift.
