Flash Forward: Freep Article November 23, 2012
After a tumultuous start in Ann Arbor, Rich Rodriguez has solidifed himself as the best coach in the Big Ten and perhaps the country.
In his first season, Rodriguez stumbled through an embarassing and unprecedented 3-9 season. His second season at the helm showed minimal progress with a 5-7 record. Coupled with allegations of NCAA rules violations, many wondered if Rodriguez would get a 3rd year to make his turnaround.
Well, those voices of doubt have now been silenced. After a 10-3 season in 2011, capped off by back to back victories over rival OSU and a bowl win over Texas in the Nokia Sugar Bowl; Rodriguez's Wolverines are 12-0 and headed to the BCS Championship game vs. 12-0 Alabama this year.
Led by Heisman front-runner QB Tate Forcier and standout RB Vincent Smith (1670 rushing yards, 21 TD's), the Wolverines carry the nation's best offense and 7th ranked defense to meet the Crimson Tide.
Michigan, led by their explosive offense and tenacious defense, is heavily favored over Alabama.
To quote Bo Schembechler: "Those who stay will be champions". Well, those who stayed with Coach Rodriguez are whistling that same sentiment today. Michigan already has the top rated recruiting class in the nation headed into 2013 and should be the pre-season #1 again.
On a side note, OSU coach Jim Tressel is on the hot seat after back-to-back 7-5 seasons and 3 straight losses to his bitter rival up north. Also, former Buckeye Justin Boren was cut from the Detroit Lions today. Lions coach Jim Schwartz stated, "We will reall blew it when we picked him up. I've never seen a lazier player in all my time in the NFL. I award him no points and may God have mercy on his soul."
Other national notes:
Charlie Weis has been hired as the new Head Coach for struggling Vanderbilt.
Brian Kelly has been fired from ND after 3 sraight 6-6 seasons.

By 2013 Charlie Weis will have left the coaching ranks for good to pursue a career in competitive eating. He will have won two mustard belts and be known for his patented technique of swallowing five hot dogs at once as well as his avid followers, the FUPA TROOPAS.

It will be a serious season of parity if M makes the BCS Sugar Bowl as a three loss team...

or Andy Reid? And I really want to know what happened to SharpFoster. Neither has been seen since the winter of '10, when they were shipped across the river to Canada with instructions to cover curling in Vancouver.

So you're saying whoever wrote the article can see a day into the future and knows the outcome!
Holy geeze man you just blew my mind.
November 23rd, 2009 at 10:52 PM ^
That makes the future-reading of the poster much less impressive. How do we know there aren't hundreds of people that can see the future?
November 23rd, 2009 at 10:38 PM ^
Especially the part about tate & vinvent smith. But if this is a freep article I won't be reading it. I gave the freep the pete rose treatment.

The biggest revelation here is that the Sugar Bowl will be going back to Nokia after being the "Allstate Sugar Bowl" the last few years.

I sold that dog stock 3 years ago, but probably won't happen unless they invent the smartest of all smart phones next year.
I'd be happy with any bowl game next year. A New Years bowl game in 2011...probably the citrus! But I think you will be on the mark, may be not the nations 4th best but one of the top b10 defense but a nation leading offense will get us into a BCS bowl. The only question is who will be leading the team. Tate the great senior or the wonder super red shirt sophomore Gardner?
November 23rd, 2009 at 11:18 PM ^
I can't believe the Free Press didn't mention Roundtree's 12 tds (including the 2 he had against OSU); Roh's 13.5 sacks, and the +15 turnover margin led by Turner's 7 interceptions

Is this like that Early Edition show where tomorrow's party came on your porch with a cat? I think it starred the coach from Friday Night Lights. This would be REALLY Early Edition
