Not true. Michigan did the EXACT SAME THING on last year's conversion attempt against OSU.
Also... meh.
November 8th, 2014 at 6:56 PM ^
Yeah but we knew we had no chance of stopping O in OT and had to take the chance to win on a gamble, vs. both teams looked anemic (an understatement) today so the OT would have been a toss up, maybe slightly favoring NW since their O finally clicked on their last drive.

Hoke did the exact same thing that Meyer did to him on the 2 point conversion.
At least it shows he is capable of evolving

on a broken foot and going into a multi-possession OT would have favored Ohio State, versus Northwestern, who at the end of the game had two long drives and seemed more able to move the ball than Michigan.
You only do that if you think you're at a disadvantage in OT, and whether or not that was part of Brady's thinking, I don't think you can call the decision to go for two vs OSU unreasonable. Perhaps it was an Inspector Clouseau move, but I don't think it was unreasonable.

Pat Fitzgerald is a Nobel Laureate of the fourth quarter collapse.

I'm still wondering why the hell we didn't kick a field goal in the very beginning. That was dumb. Points are hard to come by with us. Not a news flash.
November 8th, 2014 at 10:55 PM ^
the offense all year has stuggled just to get into the red zone and throw away what were probably 3 guaranteed points.

I think you mean #missionaccomplished. I know you're 14, but "mission completed"? Were you raised on Mars?

Remember the last time someone used the phrase "Mission Accomplished"? That didn't work out too well.

The guy isn't exactly crushing it as our coach, I get it. But we won today, and I don't see any glaring coaching errors as the reason we can't score. It all comes back to QB play. I can't think of a winning team without a good QB, and we happen to have one of the most mistake prone quarterbacks piloting our offense.

To me the fact that we can't get minimally competent QB play despite having two 5-star QBs on the roster is a pretty serious failure on the part of the coaching staff.

I never said I wanted to keep Hoke. I just think how the team has played consistently over the past 18 games is a better reason to fire him than whatever he did today. At some point I just get sick of piling on and blaming every last thing on Hoke. I think our coaching was fine today. Gardner's turnovers are comedy, and completely random as part of a gameplan.
To the above poster who commented on 5* QBs who haven't developed under Hoke...well, there's Devin. Not exactly statistically significant, considering Hoke didn't recruit him. Shane (who's a true sophomore) might be too early to rule out, but he's not looking great either. Bellomy was a last minute recruit and I Recruiting rankings don't guarantee success, and we all know how much the "it factor" is part of the position. I think his biggest mistake was not recruiting anybody above Shane, because it would be nice to have a junior availble as an option to challenge our physically battered RS Senior QB who seems to lack any QB instincts, and our True Sophomore rocket arm who missed his senior year of HS football and has played under two coordinators at UofM already. Finding the right QB is as much luck as it is recruiting. Hopefully Speight or Malzone has "it"
So fire Hoke because of his awful record on the road, or inability to compete with his rivals, or his loyalty to Fred Jackson and Darrell Funk, or his old fashioned approach to running a program. The coaches haven't gotten the job done. But they're not responsible for everything, and the offensive execution falls on the guys who are supposed to well, execute...

Michigan completely whiffed on a QB that would be a junior or rs soph now. That seems to loom quite large this year and for last year's bowl game. Of course that has the benefit of hindsight.

that declining of the delay of game penalty when we tried to get a better kick was flat out brilliant! BRILLIANT!

just because it didn't work doesn't mean it wasn't the right decision mathematically.

I literally think that was a good call. Never seen it before. Loved it. The rest of the game, Old Pat was a bozo.
