Per @chengelis, Joe schad's Joe schad reports that Pat Fitzgerald is staying at NU.

Resume panicking as normal. I guess a lot of folks didn't want him anyway but, fwiw.

...three years ago several coaches weren't interested, which I'm sure shocked the hell out of Martin.

Fast forward three years to today, several coaches aren't interested...

Not looking real promising.

Can you say, "Hello Coach Hoke?" Damn.

A small relief, in a sense.  Hiring N'W's HC would subvert the order of things.  I could see maybe N'W trying to poach a Michigan assisstant, but Michigan lusting after a Mildcat coach?

does run a spread offense but this doesn't really hurt.Either we get JH or Les Miles,if that doesn't happen then we just need to hire the best man for the job.GO BLUE!!!

This is Michigan

How about we just hire the best guy for the job? JH is out unless a mircale happens and his wife learns the purpose of a winter coat and/or the whole state of florida detaches and sumbmerges into.. Would it be the atlantic or gulf of mexico? Either way..yea that has to happen.

He said the fact that our coaches are traditionally paid in the middle of the pack is not necessarily appropriate. In now way did he say for sure he was paying top dollar, just that he's open to the idea.

I am definitely in bipolar mode. For a while last night I was thinking, Fuck it, get miles.

Before that I was warming to the idea of Hoke, in that infamous Bobby Knight sort of way, and finally thought what the hell why not on that too.

Then I spent a while hoping DB has a card up his sleeves that will blow ya minds, y'all, until I was convinced that had to be the case.

Now I'm sure it isn't.

The only steady state I've arrived at is a profound new loathing for Harbaugh. I guess if he can get that kind of money in the NFL and the NFL and its money is what he's all about now, well, good luck. But I hate the NFL more every passing season. If Harbaugh is going to squeeze that kind of money out of Ross (to whom, yeah, pocket change) then he's going to find out in spades just how much NFL fans love that good cathartic hate hate hate when things ain't going right.

Bad scenario all over again if you try and take another coach from there alma matter.  GP is the answer.  Patterson may have not been contacted but, DB can go ahead and open the check book.  If he can coach his boys up to beat wisconsin.  Then come to Michigan and do it! Recruiting may be salvaged if recruits see the team he built at TCU. I think im coming more to the realization that it is BH.  Brady Hoke.

I do remember an interview with Gruden and him saying that he wanted to take the Oregon Offensive Coordinator position just to learn the spread offense back when Belotti was looking for a new OC.  Apparently, his wife vetoed the decision.  With his knowledge of defense, and love of the spread, he would be a great hire assuming he is interested.  Sure he has never been a college head coach but imagine the recruits we would now attract!

Fitzgerald was never going to leave Northwestern.  He's at his alma mater.  It's his dream job.

The highlight of his college career was beating us in 1995 to end a 20 game losing streak going back to 1965.  I couldn't for the life of me imagine him coming here to coach against his school.

Although he has never been a HC at the college level, i dont think recruiting would be a problem. Any recruit that wants to get to the NFL would at least have to consider his NFL ties..and that QB camp thing wouldnt hurt. He knows what it takes and will get you there if you work hard enough. The hardest part would be getting him here but if he really did say Michigan was a dream job of his then who knows

He was a college assistant so he knows how it works. He's a great defensive mind, and could definitely bring in a smart spread run OC. I think he may be perfect.

Of course, it's too perfect to happen. The way this has all gone, as soon as I start wanting him to come by he'll say "meh, Michigan would be fun. But my wife wants me to be a TV analyst."
