sigh.....

EDIT:  Based on the article, he re-opened his commitment AFTER speaking with Hoke.  It sounds like he's 50-50 between michigan and MSU.   His family has been pushing mich, but the fact that he opened his commitment despite this doesn't bode well, IMO.

It is what it is at this point.  I expected decommits after our conference play and bowl game performance.  RR would have had difficulty closing the deal with our verbals as well.  We can tolerate a dip in recruiting for one year while Hoke gets his team together.  Next year will be more critical unless Hoke pulls in a banner class this year.

...recruiting will be more important next year, but that is because two years of poor classes in a row is devastating.  A weak class this year, is a big deal.  We are one good recruiting class away from having real quality depth and a team full of scholarshipped athletes.

I do not believe RR would have had nearly the "decommitting" difficulties we are seeing.  That said, the situation is not Hoke's fault, and there is no use complaining about this reality.  It is Brandon's mess and Hoke is responsible to clean it up.  I trust that he is doing everything in his power to do just that.  But, I'd like to see some results very very soon.

...and, thanks for the avatar.

I hope you are just joking.. The b10 season was over 2 months ago, the bowl game was over two weeks ago. No one decommited, if we would have had RR, hart would still be in the fold with probably 3-4 more guys. Hoke speaks to the kid and he decommits. Hoke does not gave nothing to stand on to sell recruits. Eventhough most of you do not agree RR could say we are improving every year, look at my track record.

it couldn't really get worse.  And here it comes.  Stay positive...Stay positive...Stay positive...That's what I keep telling myself, but I'm starting to doubt DB.

What should the strategy be from here on out?  Soldify this class with perviosu committs, make a splash or two from the uncommitted pool?   Do we take shots at underrated players for the sake of warm bodies?  We have 18-20 slots without attrition currently.  Do we go for 25 member class predicting losing a couple guy?

We better not just fill slots with bodies. We are better off not filling the class then filling it with players that can't compete at this level. Recruit players we truly want and save the rest for next year. Otherwise our football program will start to resemble our basketball program!

The problem is that the Big 10 doesn't really allow you to recruit more than 25-28 kids a class if I remember correctly - sure you can backdate a couple for the last class, but not many.  So it may help to save a couple of spots, but Hoke may have to take a couple of chances here unless he wants to have an incredibly small upperclass in a couple of years that could hurt him (oh wait, where have I heard that problem stinging a coach in the butt before...).

I didnt want to waste a thread on this...what game was it that Vinapol got shot by the sniper when he was chasing after the ball?? For some reason his name came up and I want to show a friend the funny video clip.  Thanks and no disrespect to the OP.

I recommend that everyone just not follow recruiting for the next two days.  Just wait until signing day.  Until we get our staff put together, we're behind the 8-ball.  That's just how it goes.
