And continue to do what you do. Move on with your life.
to play football, not to play trumpet
And continue to do what you do. Move on with your life.
I got negged for messing around on another point post and now I can't even see the point sysyem on mgoblog haha
But talking about it while making you feel better will only make things first (been there done that)
In sum: You are committing the first rule of MGoPoints: Don't talk about MGopoints!
You're committing MGoPoint-I-Cide step away from the ledge!
Bouje is right. I just negged you Bouje for even bringing it up! Just kidding.
or I'll get negged. I should just completely remove the word points/mgopoints from my dictionary.
***EDIT*** See what I mean (literally laughed out loud)
***EDIT 2*** You just committed the second rule of MGoPoints: "If you value your points never respond to a post that bouje has that has the word 'point/s' in it because vengeance will be brought upon you!"
I love the BTN Four-Pack commercials.
I just looked through his points. Someone spent 5pm through 8pm going through his posts, negging him about once every other minute. That's mind-boggling. Who cares that much or has that much time on their hands?
Which is what spouted off my "Bouje gone wild 2.0". The point system isn't perfect but it's the best system that we have.
If someone really wants to waste their time going through someone's posts like that they are obviously pathetic (and IME) more pathetic than people complaining about meaningless points.
***EDIT*** for reference go back to this post
I do not want this post to become that post because you will commit MGo-Suicide and I already brought up this exact point many many moons ago and the community didn't buy into it/thought I was joking.
As others have said just don't talk about it if you wake up and you get negged by some loser go beat up a kitten or something (It's a joke relax)
I totally agree with that. Apart from one or two posters, I have trouble even remembering who's who from thread to thread.
community... Even if it is more for my follies and mis-steps than actual content added (see Shredder and his art-work, steve sharik for his analysis, etc) people know the name bouje and think "idiot".
Someone has to be the village idiot, might as well be me.
The village idiot in Ann Arbor is a Rhodes Scholar in East Lansing.
anyone on this board has ever said about me. *tears up* you like me you really really like me!
using a little Drew Sharp/Rob Parker MO, my friend.
Whenever I see the name Bouje, I reach for my down arrow. J/K, though I did neg you a lot in the past I would say I only neg 10% of your comments now...
10% is a lot less than 100%. Shit I might call just hang up posting now too while I'm ahead!
After reading that old post again, I laughed so hard that I completely forgot what a crappy weekend I had, all the way around, (UM loss, fight with my wife, ...). It wasn't your comments, mind you, just the responses you got. HOF material, for sure. It was priceless. Thanks.
I'll have to re-read the comments and then go hulk-smash and neg the crap out of everyone who dared cross me! The wrath of bouje.
Damn. That's a Negger with an attitude!
I've had this happen to me several times before. It's annoying, but there's not much to be done about it and it will continue to happen because there are a number of people who simply like to negbang (sounds dirty, doesn't it).
Main Entry: pa·thet·ic
Etymology: Middle French or Late Latin; Middle French pathetique, from Late Latin patheticus, from Greek pathētikos capable of feeling, pathetic, from paschein (aor. pathein) to experience, suffer — more at pathos
1 : having a capacity to move one to either compassionate or contemptuous pity
2 : marked by sorrow or melancholy : sad
3 : pitifully inferior or inadequate <the restaurant's pathetic service>
4 : absurd, laughable <a pathetic costume>
5 : getting upset at a BBS poster, tracking down every one of their posts, and down-voting them
This is the reason (or one of them, anyway) that negging shouldn't be entirely anonymous. If you're going to to neg somebody, your name should be associated with it somehow.
and again suggest that there be a daily limit (say, 10/day or ceiling(1% of your point total)/day) to how many +/- any poster can give out on any given day. And no "rollover minute" bullshit.
Or, giving one a +/- vote takes away one of the giver's points. Up or down, either way.
I thought it was set up that way. Negging also cost the Neg giver one.
edit: that is correct; I was unaware. Thanks for the clarification.
double edit: actually, test inconclusive. Somebody came along and negged other posts while I was experimenting. Boo to that person.
triple edit: the culprit was FA, so boo to him. Anyway, test ran again and concluded: negging others does not subtract from you.
It is supposed to be that way at some point, but alas, nyet.
I agree with the Sgt. The system should not be anonymous (it should be formerly anonymous I guess). The neg/pos system is about accountability, and it worked at first. But now there obviously needs to be some accountability to the accountability.
Yes, I should control all points! [/worst-idea-ever]
?? Not what I meant - the point system would no longer be anonymous, thus I employed your name as a way to describe something that was previously anonymous, no longer anonymous. I meant it as a salute to you. Chill out.
One of the changes I hope Brian makes per our discussion on the other thread on points.
It's worth booting someone that does that.
Points mean nothing.
I originally took offense to getting negged. Then I realized that was stupid. I still pos/neg people for various reasons, but when it comes down to it, the content of what you post is more important than the +/- sign by your name. I get negged all the time, but I also have people say they value what I have to say. chitownblue2 gets negged all the time, but he's one of the more intelligent posters on the board.
If you get negged or pos-banged at least people are reading your posts and you are invoking emotion in them.
AAAHHH YOU ARE IDIOT NEG AND NEG ALL OF YOUR POSTS!!!! RAR
LOL That was funny/intelligent I enjoyed your post *circle jerks you*
...but I do + a lot of posts and comments. If I have a strong issue with a post or comment, I would rather post a dissenting viewpoint. I figure it is more effective to state one's opinion than to neg someone else's.
Are mommy and daddy making up?
Now go to bed!
I think when you have a large open community you are likely to see normal variation in neg and pos points on a post. If this were more of a smaller, somewhat closed community the smaller variations in points would be more meaningful. Thus now a -2 or -3 on a post is pretty meaningless, whereas in the past it would have mean something. I pretty much expect to get negged when I express any opinion that is not fluffy and completely sycophantic of our team or this blog. It is when you get into the -10 range, beyond the normal variation seen in a large community like this, that you know you have posted something people actually don't like.
But systematic negging like what happened to the OP should not be tolerated. The offender should be temporarily banned.
If you feel like you need to apologize for your post, don't post it.
You know, if we're going to have point minimums for posting threads and diaries (which I am 100% on board with) then we should lay off just a little on the Fight Club rules about points. It's a perfectly legitimate complaint if people are doing what FA mentioned.
Of course, if I'm right about which post MichMike is referring to....
As I read through the posts I happened along one and posted a somewhat lame response calling someone out.
....then he's no innocent party and crossed the lines of civil behavior himself. IME. However, there's no need to reflexively break out the "quit whining" button when points have an actual effect on your MGoBoard experiences. Someone with 2000 points complaining about getting a neg or two? Be quiet. Complaining about another regular user taking it upon himself to remove someone's posting privilege because he was butthurt about someone calling him a name on the intertubez? Legit, IME.
I don't know if the people who do the banning can determine who did all the negging. I think it might be anonymous, but maybe I'm wrong.
I know basic mod's can't see who it is. Brian might have that capability, but I don't know.
In this case it's easy to come up with a pretty good educated guess on who did the negging.
Is a skill possessed by a chosen few; a group set apart. It requires an innate talent, keen eye, and the brush strokes of a true artist. This puts you in rarefied company along with just a handful of others on this site.
If it helps any, think of it this way: you got some fool to waste three hours feeding the beast in the pit of his/her black heart. It probably kept him from a killing spree.
spit up my coffee reading that. hahaha
To be open about it, I negged every comment in this thread indiscriminately, even my own. I can not for the life of me figure out why I was posbanged +14 for my one comment.
Because you are FA, and we find you undeniably sexy.
I pos-banged everyone so we'd get some cross-mojination going! Yeah, baby!
