Nuss is going for the first major BCS gig he gets.

Hopefully he likes what he sees in Shane Morris and sticks around until he graduates. If Nuss is as good as we hope our best chance is that he does well here. Leaves for a solid BCS program and then maybe comes back in 6-8 years when hoke is done.

all that is a pipe dream though. I'd be happy with a functional running game next season.

mattison easily twice my age but i can only hope to be that energenic and passionate every day in my 60s.  love most everything i hear re direction of D especially him specifically stating they need to be more aggressive in coverage and needing to win 1v1 matchups....if a guy cannot consistently win 1v1s and get to QB in 3 secs then he cant be effective pass rusher...hes obviously always known it but nice to flat out hear it....hopefully they have the athletes this yr to keep some of the more "effort" and "physical" and gap sound "assignment" pass rushers on the bench a bit more

Thanks for putting the notice out there, OP and thanks to GoBlueDenver for the links. I do wish MGoBlue would allow folks to embed these.

In any case, I like what Nussmeier said about goals and having team goals as well as personal ones as I think creating manageable goals will help the players and help with the installation of a new system, but he did put what I take to be the overarching goal rather nicely - getting 11 players to do the same thing the right way every play. We call those "true north" statements, and they do help people achieve. Hopefully, that's what happens here.

I liked what I saw from Nussmeier in this, his first Michigan practice press conference.

>> I think creating manageable goals will help the players and help with the installation of a new system

Call it a hunch (because it's based on nothing more than that) ... I have confidence in Nussmeier creating and communicating those goals in a consumable way.  Nussmeier strikes me as the kind of coach that players will respond to.

>> getting 11 players to do the same thing the right way every play

And that starts with all 11 players being on the same page, and I believe Nussmeier understands how to achieve this.  Again, just a hunch.

Or perhaps merely hope, but it doesn't matter -- I like what I saw (body language) and heard (words used) in this.

are you all saying the things Mattison was saying is common knowledge? This has me all giddy right now. Going from 4-3 under to over base. He said we will play more press coverage and more aggresive on the line this year. Might be all bs coach speak but he made it move.

In a difference in opinion it sounds like Nuss does not believe one back can "handle the load" for an entire season.  Mentioned needing multiple backs. This isn't major but surely a difference from what Hoke/Mattison had said in the past.

Dave Brandon can feel free to spend just a little scratch on a couple of extra microphones so you could hear the questions during these presser's.

He said as kids get more experience and their philosophy changes they need to become more aggressive, specifically citing tightening up coverage on the recievers.  Thank you!  Please do not give 10 yard cushions to recievers this year!

Gotta say I'm highly impressed with Nussmeier and his astute football acumen. I guarantee he puts a better product on the field than Borges based solely on his attention to detail and his prior successes.

On the downside I think if the 2014 Wolverine offense is at all a top 35-40 unit, Nuss will be gone to a head coaching gig. The guy has head coach written all over everything he says. It's no coincidence this guy has turned out solid offenses and quarterbacks year after year.

Excuse me if I interpret nothing from presser or practice videos. They dont mean shit. Until I start seeing results in real games, I'll do nothing more than glance at the occasional presser or practice video. Case in piont: Last year we heard Hoke say in a presser, "I like this team, and I dont usually say that at this piont" or something along those lines. We saw how much that meant.
