I'm curious if we have the worse three rushing games of the year and after Iowa and Ohio we will have the worse 5 of the year. I think Brandon and whoever hired him should be fired. This guy managed to make pizza taste like crap

Leaving the game now. Can't wait to read the posts from the Borges apologists telling me this wasn't his fault and he called a brilliant game. I'm sure they're in the the thread

Not mgoblog. We have no say in it. I repeat: there is nothing that we can say or do that will get any of the M coaches fired. Let's stop making threads about it.

What is so mystifying about this is that Mich will almost surely allow this horror show to continue through the rest of the season.  I don't know anymore.  We have been a program circling the drain of national relevance since 2007.  Fire Borges, don't fire Borges, I'm not sure it's really going to make a difference.  Without a massive personnel overhaul, to include the HC, I just can't see the light at the end of the tunnel.  I'm tired about hearing the term "lack of execution".  We have been hearing this sh!t since 2008.  How many players have rolled through since then?  At what point does it become obvious that it's the coaches, not the players?

Gardner give back 98 and go back to 12.

Funk GONE!

Borges GONE!

Teach Gardner to ROLL OUT of the pocket to throw passes, the pocket = DEATH!

If these things don't happen Hoke needs a much hotter seat.

Brandon is in trouble.  He's gonna have a see of red in the stadium Nov. 30.  Who wants to watch OSU win that game 56-0.  Meyer will have two goals, get a shut out and embarrass Michigan as much as possible.

Well I'm going to watch UFC.  Not watching any other college games today.  Don't care anymore.  I honestly hoped Hoke would bring Michigan back to competing for conference titles each year, especially after that 11-2 first season,  but it's looking like that simply is never going to happen again.

If Hoke switches o-coordinators there will probably be a transition year or two while the team learns the new offense and that means another couple years of struggles on offense.  How old is Mattison? Will he still be coaching in a few years? Will we ever be competitive again?

Life is too short.  I used to have head aches and mope big time after losses, esp to blah teams, but after watching the last few games, I've (mostly) pushed through to the other side: I want to watch teams that actually play 21st century football and/or have a ton of NFL talent. College football is a good game when done right.

I'm not letting world's-worst-manball ruin my Saturdays anymore. Now, I'm PO'd for an hour or two, take a deep breath, put my annoyance in a corner, then I'm on my way.

I hope UM turns it around (this season, or next, or next...) but I'm not going to be like a Hoke/Borges offense and slam my head again and again into a wall.

Don't forget Ohio State last year.  That was horrendous. square peg meet round hole, again and again and again and again and again.

Sometimes I think Al is hung over when he calls games

Get rid of this useless human being as soon as possible. If he continues to coach the rest of this season MICHIGAN WILL NOT WIN ANOTHER GAME THIS YEAR.

Yes, time to join the bandwagon and find a new OC.  I've largely excepted Borges from blame because it is so difficult to call plays with a woeful OL.  Against PSU, we were relying on what then seemed to be a very reliable FG kicker.  Against MSU, it sort of made sense to try to beat them deep because that's where they seemed to be the most vulnerable.  But Nebraska?  This was a crappy defense and we couldn't even get the balls to our playmakers Gallon and Funchess enough to score more than 13 freakin' points.  Neb was vulnerable to the short pass and was sure there for the taking the one drive we tried it.  We all agree the OL challenges will continue next year so we need an OL who can scheme around that with quick passing.  Borges had the chance to show us today he could do that and he failed.  Verdict returned.

I've been on the #FireBorges bandwagon for a few weeks now (started with PSU). Its sad to say this, but I knew today's fiasco was coming.  Everyone last week was saying MSU is better, blah blah...  I knew Borges was going to lay an egg in this one - Hollywood couldn't write scripts this good (or bad for us).

BUT... Hoke/Brandon are not going to fire Borges before the end of the season.  The earliest we will see him fired would be AFTER the Ohio game unfortunately.  It just doesn't make sense at this point to add a major disruption like that.  They may move play calling responsibilities or limit his role, but an ejection isn't happening until December.

They might pull the trigger before the bowl game so they can start interviewing and I think that is the most likely scenario.  Get blown out by OSU, fire Borges on Monday, name interim play caller/OC, limp through the Bowl game and then announce the new OC after Jan 1st.

There really is no saving his job unless we magically become competent offensively and we beat OSU with an impressive offensive performance.  There will be too much pressure on Brandon/Hoke to not do anything then.  The pressure started building with PSU.  It jump up quite a bit with MSU.  And, now with the NEB game, the dam just broke.

Borges can try reigning it in, but I think the damage is done.  I think Hoke knows it too.  He had the headset on a few times in the 1st & 2nd quarter (before game management situations).  Hoke has to replace Borges before spring or he'll be in serious danger of losing his job.  Hell, he might be damn close now..,

Yeah, performane wise its pretty much impossible to get any worse.  I think waiting is more to keep the players engaged and maybe fight off them quitting on the season or transferring, etc...  Not quite sure what it would do to recruiting as well.  It might make a few tweeners lean another way.  Hell then again keeping him onboard, might just do what I was hoping they could prevent by doing at the end of the season....

Really not sure why everyone is so slow to come around on this fire borges thing.

I didn't like the hire from day one and I wanted him gone after OSU last year.  The play calling that  game was the worst I had seen in a very long time, against our most hated rivals, of all teams.

Not only does Borges call plays our offense has proven they are not capable of executing time and time again, he calls them against a defense that has game planned to stop these things.

We cannot run the ball, Nebraska is in an 8 man front the majority of the game, and Borges runs the ball anyway.  Our offensive line/running backs are not good at pass protection, Nebraska blitzes the majority of the game, and Borges calls long developing pass plays.  It is like Borges is calling plays with no thought given to his team’s strengths and weaknesses or the defenses game plan at all.

I'm afraid if hoke is as stubborn as most head coaches he might not fire Borges. They've been together for so long he might not want to change him

Cold War

November 9th, 2013 at 10:13 PM ^

The fire Borges meme is emotional and intellectually lazy. It's easy to tell ourselves our woes are the doings of one man, and it's simply a matter of replacing him. He came as a well respected coordinator, and still is.

The gaping hole in the interior of our offensive line has been discussed here endlessly. There simply aren't any upperclassmen we can go to. The futile running game, the sacks... it can all be traced back to trying to generate offense without a line. I'd also note players, at times,  were put in positions to succeed today and did not.

Hoke won't panic. I don't expect or want him to. This was a rebuilding job to be done correctly for the long haul. His first recruiting class are sophomores and redshirt freshmen. Nowhere is this more evident than the offensive line. The team will be totally his in 2015, and at that point I'll draw conclusions about him and his staff. Not before.

Lets summarize where things stand after  today, Wyoming, South Dakota State and Illinois had more rushing yards vs Nebraska then Michigan had total yards. Purdue, the team that hadn't scored a touchdown in weeks and may be the worst Big Ten team in 20+ years also had more yards vs Nebraska then Michigan did today.

But sure, lets keep blaming it on youth, because that meme isnt intellectually lazy at all. No other team in the country plays young lineman. Nebraska wasn't playing backup lineman at two or three different spots today yet still managed to run all over a good defense.

At some point you have to realize there is a fundamental problem with Michigan's offense. These players are now nine games into the year and have gotten worse, that is not the mark of good coaching. Teams with less talent and little experience still somehow manage to generate more then 200 yards of offense. Is it all Borges fault, no, firing him will not fix all Michigan's offensive problems but at some point changes need to be made and he is where you need to start.

To say that. His game plan is Vanilla and very predictable. He doesn't use his weapons correctly, he doesn't call plays w an "out" for the QB, his QB can't read a D and audible correctly (Borges fault), he runs a stupid run play that's the same every time, I see No sweeps, I see NO audible, I see NO screen passes, I see NO two TE sets and power the ball up someone's ass, I see a indisciplined offense that plays rec ball.

So don't sit here and say that's lazy to say fire Borgis. I can say what I like and I understand football and what I watched the last few weeks was total fucking garbage on the Offense and the offensive plan. Fitz is done and we all see that, but he is still in there when its 3rd and a tuff two and they let him try and dance instead of giving the ball to Green or damn lets Rawls run!

I bet Borgis quits on his own after the season and we loose a few recruits this year because they will not wanna sit around and wait. I wouldn't be surprised if Gresn transfers after this year and Harris says F this crap! So yes I can say its on his and its not a lazy assessment.

The coaches are to damn nice and it's starting to show!!!
