I realize this observation is a little late and maybe someone else has already made it (my apologies if that's the case) but I didn't hear Jerimy Finch's name called once last Saturday. Did he play at all? Here's a guy who started as a true freshman at Florida, yet doesn't see the field for the Hoosiers? There must be some non-football issue(s) going on. Curious.
Speak for yourself. Really.
I'm curious about Finch too. If he played at FLA, is this this the year when he sits on the bench after the transfer?
That's why I posted it.
And your mom.
...I don't know much about the Internets, but I did take the 30 seconds to search, Indiana, Football.
I went to the website and clicked on "Indiana v. Michigan"
I got this web page:
And as you can see on the player participation report, Jerimy Finch indeed played Saturday, though I don't have any detail on how or how well. I'd recommend an Indiana football blog for details on that, if THEY even care.
We really don't get along, do we?
Keep neg banging away, my man.
I provided you the empirical data you asked for. Beyond that I have no idea, and that's on purpose, because I only talk about players blah blah blah.
And, I don't negbang people for their validly held opinions, although I may disagree. I only post - there is no point to up or down pointing people here if their comments aren't banhammer worthy, and I'm not in the business of regulating opinion.
I'd recommend an Indiana football blog for details on that, if THEY even care.
Why are you being so condescending in response to the OP? The question was reasonable, and had to do with a player that was at one time a Michigan football recruit. You've got 3400+ points, so clearly this post wasn't a waste of your time, as you have nothing better to do.
Who takes the time to post "Who cares?" Why? I am interested in maybe one out of ten Board posts and I just respond to the ones that interest me. Weird.
Anyway, it's a good question. With our need at safety, I was always pained by Finch not becoming a Wolverine. Didn't notice on Saturday, though.
Seriously... any football related question is good. I can't be the only one getting tired of "Where's a good place to watch the game in a 3 story dungeon under the heart of Bangledesh?" posts.
Do you know of any places? It'd be great if it is family friendly, but I can always leave the kids with Mr. Slave.
I do, but to enter it, you must first give your firstborn to the Sinister Icy Black Hand of Death Club that operates there, and then commit 10 gruesome murders and allow yourself to be captured by the corrupt police.
That is all.
At least he didn't say "first" ??
I don't think Finch actually started at UF. I searched a little, and he was injured on a punt return in mid September (http://thequad.blogs.nytimes.com/tag/jerimy-finch/) and I believe he missed the rest of the season. Additionally, although he played on special teams, I think he was buried on the depth chart at safety - but I'm not sure if I'm recalling that correctly.
He sat out last year as his transfer year and did play Saturday against UM. But I had the same thought as UM Indy: I didn't hear his name called at all and didn't notice his play. However, I was somewhat hindered by forgetting my glasses in my car, so I wasn't able to notice details as much as I normally do. Anyone notice his play at all? You'd think he would stand out on that team.
his name came up on the LiveBlog two or three times being credited with the stop. . . .
I have listened quietly for a long time now, and this just typifies why the posting has devolved. UMIndy, this is a fine post. Don't let the negativity get to you. In the past, the quality posters like Meeechigan Dan, Jaime Mac, Jim Harbaugh Scramble, Kgh, Magnus, etc... would respectfully discuss the safety play of both teams and if there wasn't much to say then leave it alone.
Some of the people who have the highest points somehow feel emboldened to give their opinion on the quality of post instead of enhancing the discussion. So let's say it is a bad post (which this clearly isn't), do you add to the replies so that people will click on the thread because they think there is a discussion ongoing. Or should you leave it as a 1 reply thread that we can ignore. If you have over 3,000 points, you might want to consider if you actually have 3,000 points worth of things to say. Saying that you should look something up on the internet instead of discussing it here, kind of misses the point.
How can our desperate need at safety/ corner, combined with our rollercoaster recruitment of a top player at our position of need with whom we were leading for, followed by his spurning us for a hated coach (at the time because of his lobbying against Carr in 06), followed by a transfer into a Big Ten school not named Michigan, and his disappearing act at a position which would have been the key at stopping the big plays which defined this past Saturday's game, not be a relevant topic for discussion. We are a couple of linebackers/ corners away from being a top ten team. Finch and RoJo were two big fish (among others) that got away which would have completed the team. Should Brian not have discussed the recruiting failings that left us in the position that we are in today. Finch was a major part of that. We have had some decent classes but a couple of key positions have had major late disappointments. This is why we are a good but not great team.
I am interested to hear if Finch just doesn't have it and the recruiting hype was all wet. Or did the injury slow him down to the point that he can't play at the one position (Indiana safety) which is historically the worst in the Big Ten. I defy you to find a worse position. IU's lack of athletic ability has always been most evident in their safety play. Seems to still be true today by the big plays we had, some which were slow to develop around the corner but still broke to the house.
If you don't like this topic, how about worst position at any big ten school. I would be interested if my analysis of IU safety is actually the worst. Purdue seems to have good D ends/ outside linebackers, but no one in the middle. Iowa always seems to have underachieving receivers.
Great, great post. I have been tired of the growing negativity and aloofness from some posters on this board as well, but couldn't articulate my thoughts nearly as well.
Edit: Maybe at times people's tone is misconstrued via text on a message board, but I think the point remains.
You are right. I think that there are misinterpretations all the time, and I get that. But the point is to post less, have something to say, and lay off the negativity. And ironically, do it under 1,000 words, which clearly I could not.
What? You don't enjoy scrolling through the endless "I agree" "Yeah, thats what I think too" and "Good point, man!" posts?
I typically post less during the season just because there is such a crazy amount of content that I just try to keep up with all of it knowing that it will be tough to add to the discourse in a meaningful way - meaningful being the key...
"Finch and RoJo were two big fish (among others) that got away which would have completed the team."
Great point. Just think of how different our team looks with these two on it and playing to potential.
