Finally, a string of positives to build with...

Submitted by Wolverine90 on

Nice.

  1. Limbo over.
  2. Martin staying.
  3. Denard staying.
  4. Tate staying to work his way back onto the roster.
  5. Coach Hoke evidencing “flexibility” in adapting to Denard, which is very refreshing and positive and certainly not very Lloydesque.
  6. Willie C back to defense meaning Coach Hoke thinks he can be the D line beast we hoped he'd be.
  7. So many former players endorsing Coach Hoke.

Good vibes!  Ideally the positives will come DURING the season and not after it, but as bad as things have been, we gotta start somewhere and this is where it all begins.

I’ll be a lot more positive if Coach Hoke can deliver a few good recruits this month despite the time loss courtesy of DB.

Hope springs eternal.

It's nice to see the program didn't fall apart after Rodriguez was fired, as many predicted it would.

I guess there won't be that "down for a decade" thing.

Would be absolutely killer to see Hoke re-recruit Hart at least. Hoke had a great freshman RB at SDSU last season, hopefully he can show Hart some footage from that.

I really liked Dee Hart, thought he could be something special in Ann Arbor, but can't blame the kid for his decision.  Player/Coach relationships are very important in recruiting and obviously he was connected to RichRod more than the University of Michigan.

On a positive note, Justice Hayes, come on down!  Can't wait to see what this young man does and he's recruiting for Michigan as well.  Double bonus!!!

Honestly, I don't see how "not-negatives" are the same as positives. This is coming from someone who thought RR should not have been fired, FWIW. What that means is if that had happened, Martin and Denard wouldn't even be issues. Tate's absence is still a negative, just, less of one than it could have been, I guess.

Positives would be a major coup or three on the recruiting trail or the hiring of Randy Shannon as DC. I know what you're trying to do and I can appreciate it, but I want to see something that makes things better than they would have been, not just avoiding making things worse.

And what did you expect people to think about Denard's future when we bring in a coach who isn't known to run Denard's kind of offense and Denard offers a string of "no comments" to the media?

Anyway, if Denard was always going to come back regardless, that's less of a reason to participate in Hokemania, not more.

Of course it is.  It's only the RR folk who are so bothered by the hire.  It becomes more and more clear that they might not be so bothered by the hire as much as they are still bitter over losing RR.  That's ok.  Take your time and let Hoke's record on the field and the recruiting trail assist you in getting over your boy.

I was done with Rich Rodriguez. I didn't think he was ever going to be able to effectively lead at Michigan, and I didn't think he was flexible enough to fix the defense.

So I wanted Rich gone, but I wanted a proven hire to come in and re-inspire national confidence.

Bottom line is Hoke is un-proven, and a risk hire. Especially if your goal is to get Michigan into Florida or even OSU-like national championship contention.

Heck, even NC State made a more respectable decision with their last hire. The only reason the national MSM isn't throwing up all over this, is they now recognize how inbred and insular the inner circle and the average Joe fan is at Michigan, and they think Hoke has a better chance than many candidates just because he is a "Michigan Man".

I support the team and the coach. I knew Rodriguez had to go. I think the hire and the timing of the process was no where near the best decision for the program.

I will, at such time they are impressive enough to.  Meantime I will enjoy a sense of relief over things like Denard's return and not be so desperate for good news that I think every bad thing that didn't happen is the same thing as a plus.  I'm more than willing to keep an open mind on what Hoke can do, but how excited do you expect me to get over some nice-sounding words at a press conference and a scattering of very basic "positives"?

How excited?  I guess "fairly" would be a good level.  The worst fears have already proven false.  The media (which was endlessly complained about as "not giving us a chance") is speaking positively about the program.  Players are speaking positively.  Fans are again energized.  The people most unhappy today live in the left and right armpits of E.Lansing and Columbus.  "Fairly" excited.  Save "very" until you see the on-field product.  That's fair.

is that really a bad thing? I remember when he was hired and everyone was excited, but we've consistently been blown out in the second half during big games, and that seems to go against him. i don't know much about the new guy, but i just hope we can actually stay competitive in the second half

I think Barwis did a pretty good job. But I really don't think the difference between what he did and what Hoke's SC guy will do are that big of a difference. I would like to think that most if not all SC guys are capable of teaching kids how to lift and get in good shape.

and knock on it.  This is Michigan post-2006.  I am not certain, but it is very likely that Cam Gordon is blowing out his ACL in a pickup basketball game as we speak.  I have come to one certainty for my own sanity, everything good will blow up into ten thousand little peices and leave me again saying "well, if these five things happen and this happens and then this happens we might be OK."  I have learned to live by this code when it comes to Michigan athletics and then everything good that happens is like that ten dollar bill you find in old pants.

His recruiting speaksfor itself?  Check out how many 4 star recruits he's had over the past 8 years.  47-50 record as a head coach...now there's some cold hard evidence!  I was an RR supporter all along until the MSU game this year, then he began to lose me.  By teh OSU game I was gone.  As much as I wanted RR to succeed I knew the odds of the factions were too stacked against him.  We were completely played by DB make no mistake about this.  National Search?  Best man for the job?  MY ASS!!  I've had State fans calling me laughing at me over this whole "process."  It appears we may be losing some members of our stellar 35th. ranked recruiting class.  Hell, some of the kids have admitted to never even hearing of Hoke.  Sorry guys I may never recover from all of these politics.  And please stop with the "Hokemania" bullshit.  What an embarrassment to all of the buffed steriod-laden great wrestling entertainers of our time.
