Wisconsin scored again.
This is maaaaybe premature there, ESPN. Maryland #1 FWIW.
Wisconsin scored again.
6 to be exact
Last night made us losing to Nebraska even more painful.
What would have been impressive would have been beating one of those teams. Anyone can lose to #1,2 and 3. All you have to do is have them on the sched.
that Michigan is indeed the highest-ranked 8-win team in the country.
So, we got that going for us. Which is nice.
i'm standing in line at the grocery store today and an old guy with an ohio hat on says to me, 'but why did you guys stop giving the ball to robinson?'
Funny, insightful and a little flamebaitish all in one.
I'm afraid they couldn't make it here this week; recruiting trip to Lesotho or something
recruiting intergallactically. Dantonio looks a little off in that spacesuit, so they keep it on the down low.
No, that's merely interstellar recruiting. If STAEE was truly recruiting intergalactically, you'd expect a commit or two from the Tadpole Galaxy. Especially because tadpoles are well known for laying in the weeds.
No it's merely interplanetary recruiting. Interstellar matter is the matter that exists between solar systems. D'antonio has yet to break into the recruiting pipeline of the Alpha Centauri system.
That just earned one of those wife waking, dog startling laughs. It was the random use of Lesotho, and reading that comment in your avatar's voice.
Counting the roses that have been placed all over their second tier practice facility.
Laying in the weeds.
I think they forgot to come out this year...
Looking for the threat.
some sweet bbq wings.
Wonder what impact the final AP rankings will have on our bowl invitation.
Someone should create a 'bowl selection show viewing thread' so that mgobloggers can speculate on where Michigan might land...and vs. whom.
And to think Notre Dame on the road by 7, Ohio on the road by 5....I don't remember the Bama score but I'm certain we would have beaten them at home..../-S
Even if we had beaten the #1, #2, and #3 teams in the AP poll we still wouldn't have won the Big Ten Championship. Think about that one.
But we would most definitely have a BCS "at large" bid in hand.
MNCG bid, actually. What other 1-loss team would have had a comparable resume?
Since Michigan has the worst luck with this sort of thing, this would be the year that the NCAA decided that winning your conference WAS necesary to play for the MNC, since it wasn't an ESS EEE SEE team being affected by the ruling.
If UM had beaten those teams they wouldn't be ranked 1. 2 and 3. Florida beat A&M, LSU, South Carolina and Florida St.
In this years bcs there will be the ap #13,16,22 and a NR team. Hell of a system they got going there, really matches up the best of the best.
Lou Holtz and Mark May ... So done with those two idiots.
I like Mark May ... but I'm with you regarding Holtz. If he retired and we never saw him again on TV I'd be perfectly okay with that.
Who's pre-season #1 next year? Alabama, LSU, Florida, FSU, OSU all bring back a lot of guys. Is Alabama again the preseason favorite to repeat? Ugh, will there every be a day when Alabama isn't the best team in the country again?
Yes. Due to rule changes, it won't be as easy for Alabama to oversign. Its an enormous advantage to basically have 5 recruiting classes every four years. Especially when you discard the busts.
College football is cyclical. The B1G will be back soon enough.
People think I'm crazy, but I remember growing up in the 90's and the B10 always was the best conference top to bottom. A Florida, Oklahoma, USC, etc, might have a team that ended up being the top, but they were usually far and away the top in their division. Remember when the game for the brown jug used to be a competition? Purdue had Drew Brees. Even seeing a top 10 Iowa was not uncommon. Up to 2006 mich-ohio game, outside illinoi, northwestern, and indiana, any team in the B10 was a tough game. The tide of college football switched that day. But it is cyclical, it will swtich back eventually......
The mid to late 90's was a darn good era for Big Ten football.
Maybe WC Ford I & II will fire Ken Schwartz and throw so much money at Saban that he can't refuse. Nick could hardly do any worse, and if he failed again we could laugh at him. If he succeeded, then the Lions might be worth rooting for.
Holy shit, you might be on to something there, although it's Jim Schwartz /nitpicking.
Maybe they'll fire his brother Jim while they're at it.
Saban was horrible as the Dolphins coach. NFL is set up to be fair. You can't oversign in the pros - the smart guys win in the NFL. Sorry, I'm not sold on Saban as a great coach - he just has so much more talent bc he's a robot who could care less about people's lives. I'll take a guy like Brady over Saban every day of the week.
and leave Jim in his job as HC.
I've long maintained the Lions are ultimately hopeless because you can't draft a new owner.
that we lost by a total of 12 points combined to the #1 and 3 teams. With a combined total of 10 turnovers. Hell, if we could have cut the turnovers down to 5 we win one of those. If not both. And then were sitting here at 10-2 and may have a BCS bid in hand for a second straight year. All in all, a decent year that was a few turnovers away from even better.
With a combined total of 10 turnovers.
That is my frustration with the 2012 season ... what might have been had we protected the ball a bit more. We might still have lost those games ... but turning the ball over that many times is a pretty good way to make sure the game is lost.
We lost to Alabama 41-14. 27 points
Notre Dame 13-6. 7 points
Ohio 26-21. 5 points.
That is 39 points combined.
He's talking about two games: ND and OSU.
I'm perplexed as to why Nebraska is still ranked, or at the very least, ranked above Wisconsin. 10-3 and a nice regular season yes, but they were dismantled yesterday like I've rarely seen.
Hopefully the future is now and by now I mean January 1.
It is intriguing really that Notre Dame went from "others receiving votes" in the preseason to #1 in the AP poll, whereas USC went from #1 in the preseason poll to "others receiving votes". Other then that, the most interesting aspect is that 15 teams in the December 2nd poll were also in the preseason poll, and Alabama, Oregon and Georgia went full-circle and are ranked now at exactly the same position thet were in the preseason poll.
And talking of the preseason poll, I think most people on this board felt uncomfortable with Michigan's preseason ranking because it seemed too high, especially with the schedule.
