Final (from me) Chicago folks game watching location possibility

Submitted by Todd Plate's n… on
Newport Bar & Grill? Newport & Southport...just walked past it and noticed they had large Michigan banners inside, looks to be a relatively small place with a lot of tvs located in good spots. Any takers? Saturday at 1ish at Newport Bar & Grill? feel free to email me as to spare fellow readers from reading another chicago watch party thread. nick [email protected]

Not sure how old you are, or how long its been since you graduated, but the best place to get rowdy and watch a Michigan game in Chicago is Duffys at the corner of Sheridan and diversey. If your not about to throw a few back it might be a little much, but for recent grads it might be the spot for you

But I know that the Newport is where the contingent of fans who used to watch games at Take 5 on Southport is relocating to for this season (Take 5 closed last winter). I've actually never been inside, but the leader of the relocation effort was apparently shopping a few bars to see who would give the best deal, and the Newport was very enthusiastic to have the business. Duffy's is great fun, but there's no good way to get there via public transit and it fills up really fast. I used to save Duffy's for bowl games and the OSU game (but for those you REALLY have to get there early.)

It's just off Southport and one block north of the Southport Brown Line stop. At Take 5, you only had to get there 15 minutes early or so for a really good seat, except for the big games. I'm not sure what the layout of the Newport BG is, though, so seats with good viewing angles may fill up at a different rate. Take 5 was pretty big.
