I'm desperate to hear basketball news...especially after last summer's tantalizing tidbits like "the freshmen beat the upperclassmen in 1-on-1 scrimmages", etc.

Anybody have a closer image of the ring? Curious to see the design and level of iciness.

Also, just dawned on me that GRIII has something that the Big Dog never got.  How cool is that for him.

I know it's an awesome achievement, but I'm from the school of thought that rings are awarded for championships. I guess you could call it a regional championship though.

I had no idea that there was such a thing.  A Final Four ring.  Big Ten championship, yes.  Big Ten Tournament champions, okay.  National Championship, of course.

Does Miss Congeniality get a ring?  Well, nevermind.

I think this is part of the youth soccer generation.  Everybody gets a ring or a trophy.  Either that, or Jostens is finding new markets when fewer people are buying class rings.

The "youth soccer generation" includes people conceived during the Kennedy administration.

That's a 1986 ring, possibly from Kansas. In all seriousness, I don't see how getting a ring is different than cutting down nets and hanging banners, and if I'm remembering correctly there are Final Four banners up in Crisler dating back to 1964.

Probably.  Who the hell knows what's true at this point.

Gabe Speigel is the one reporting it, and he's generally been on top of things, but he's not exactly Bob Woodward either.

EDIT:  Here is a first-hand account from someone who watched the video.  The is probably reputable enough to post a thread about if anyone were interested:

Keep "bashing" a team that won every game they played in. What are you, a girl or something?

-If Michigan had a bowl ban and went undefeated, I'd like to think those players and coaches would deserve something to commemorate a hell of an achievement.

Here's Glenn Robinson III showing off his ring. Most of the Instagram comments are about the state of his fingers, however. Cool rings, and well-deserved for all on this team. A tribute to some very hard work that produced excellent results.

Or do those rings look like the entry level Jostens provides to high school teams. I know they are supposed to be student athletes but the rings look pretty lame IMO. More bling, even fake would look better.

I think the NCAA gives the players these rings along with other swag from the Final Four. I am pretty sure the team will also get rings from the school that will be designed by the team.
