He was mentioned as a top performer by recruiting sites, which get a lot of their money from Michigan fans. That's different than what the camp organizers thought, people who don't necessarily have a vested interest in keeping Michigan fans happy.

But isn't this camp sponsored by ESPN who is making a television show out of it?  While I agree with your argument that recruiting sites have a vested interest in keeping an enormous fanbase interested, so does ESPN.  If Morris had been ranked in the Top 11, I would have watched or set my DVR to ESPN's special on this camp.  Now I have no interest in doing so.

Nebraska alum and covered Huskers for several years after graduating. Best part of the story: Nebraska commit Johnny Stanton was at the top of the rankings for most of the weekend, and he left twice during the competition to go to his HS team's 7-on-7 practice. Stanton still made the Elite 11.

Scouts see arm strength, technique, results, potential. It's possible when Shane threw that 47 yard TD he made the wrong read in which case the scouts would be impressed(great arm) but a coach would mark him down(poor read). I don't know if that's the case I'm just pointing out how scouts and coaches can see the same things two ways.
We heard good things and Shane has good motivation, win win.

I agree to an extent. Something that stands out to me was day two the coaches were preaching quick check down and the scouts raved about Shane ignoring it and making great throws downfield. It could be that the days focus was coachabilty. Sure he made great throws but did he follow instructions? There is always 100 ways to look at things when coaching or judging. I tend to side with Trent because people are being unduly harsh on him. He can't coach talent because he isn't Manning, wtf is that? Like him or hate him the man knows the position. And people are questioning his character saying he's choosing this guy because he's going to Fresno and Trent went there. Well questioning someones character based on baseless accusations doesn't show much character.
It's like people think Trent is saying Shane isn't a good QB, he's saying he isn't the right QB for that particular camp. Big whoop, he's the right QB for Michigan and that's what's important.

I would imagine coachability was emphasized every day. Not just one day. And your check down is there if there's nothing downfield. I can't imagine why Shane would be punished for going for the big play....and succeeding. If it happens a couple times, it could be luck. But it happened the whole camp. Everybody but Dilfer thought Shane was one of the top guys there, if not the top guy. I'll take the majority opinion on this one as Shane was considered a top QB in the nation before this camp, during this camp and will most likely move up in ranking on all the sites besides maybe ESPN.

And most of us here are forming opinions of a 5 day camp based on about 100 tweets. That's not much info for 5 days. I don't even agree with Trents choice, I just don't think people should be attacking a man that is out there trying to help some kids.

Most aren't attacking him or his character, but his evaluation abilities. I guess we shouldn't have criticized RR because he was just helping young men? Just because Dilfer was a pro QB doesn't mean he is a good coach or evaluator. Just as because he wasn't a HOF doesn't mean he can't be either. It's not like these scouts are watching from booths. They're in the stands and I don't think there's a huge crowd watching so they can probably hear quite a bit of what the staff is saying. And you can pretty much get the gist of the drill by watching the 20 or so QBs repeat the reps. The only part they don't see is the classroom portion IIRC. And I can't imagine that Shane is that bad at watching flim or paying attention that he could go from being one of the top QBs on the field to being out of the 11. And it's not like this is their first Elite 11 they're analyzing. They've covered it for a long time or talk to colleagues who have covered it.

I'm not trying to argue here but judging his evaluation or coaching based on what, scouts tweets? Which scouts tweets, cuz when the scout tweeted Shane wasn't a finished product so he wasn't one of the top 11 that scout was ridiculed and his opinion dismissed. It's easy to paint any picture you want if you only take the information that suits you.
For whatever reason they went another way. I think they probably messed up but to draw conclusions with only bits of info is silly.

That guy's opinion was dismissed because his reasoning was pathetic. "Not a finished product" is a factual description of every QB there. Either way, I'll trust the numerous scouts' take more seriously considering they were all in agreement that Shane had a great week. I understand what you're trying to say. But we have a variety of opinions from differing, unbiased sources. And a clear majority of them believe Shane had one of the best performances there. It's not like we're cominmg to this based on one throw. It was every day, throughout the day that these tweets stated the same thing. Shane was great and I'm encouraged by this performance.

It's a bad read if the 47 yard TD is because the WR out jumped two DBs in the endzone.  If the 47 yard TD hit the WR in stride just as he broke away from his coverage, then it's a good read regardless if it wasn't the primary one.  Unless the whole point of the play is to 'Dilfer' and check down...

That's like Neymar hitting a strike from outside the box through 3 defenders and you giving him shit cuz he should have passed to someone with a clearer shot, when the ball is in the net. If the Elite 11 is all filmroom and playbook and testing and reads and you get downgraded for throwing the ball only where your receiver can make a catch in double coverage and he scores, the sting from Morris' ranking eases considerably.

A 47 yard TD was the wrong read? What is the point of the game? You can try to confuse me all you want with Xs and Os and defensive schemes and blah, fact is obviously the guy he threw it to was open enough and he got the ball to him. Is that not the point of reading a defense? To get the ball to someone downfield? I'm sure there's a unusual circumstance or teaching moment where you could give him a hard time, but he did just throw a 47 yard TD, so there's that.
