fight in stands yesterday

Submitted by sheepman on
Does anyone know someone who fought in the student section (section 27) of the game yesterday? Near the beginning of the game, or so I hear. Is this a common occurrence?

While attending games at the Silverdome growing up there were some amazing fights in the third deck, but honestly I have never seen any serious violence at the big house in my twenty some years of going to games beyond little things or drunk people acting up here and there... Aug

I was in the area. It looked like an older guy and what appeared to be his son (son in his 20's?). I don't know who started it, but I think there were some drunks picking on them for being in the student section. It was really unfortunate. All it takes is one idiot to give all the students a bad name. The old guy had someone in a pretty nasty headlock if I recall correctly.

Don't be hating, man. The students who are "worthless" are probably the dweebs who never partied in high school, so they have no tolerance and can't handle a marathon morning booze-fest at the age of 18. If everyone just drank more and started at an earlier age, then they would be perfectly cognizant while hammered at the games. Think of Kevin Grady operating a vehicle with a .26 or whatever BAC. Same concept.

And all that noise this whole season has come from where? And all those students in Beaver Stadium or Death Valley must be dead sober, too. I don't knock alums who would rather sit and watch the game than stand up for 4 hours, even though by doing so you are quite literally hurting the team, but don't hassle the students for making their Big House experience the way they like it best, especially when they are the only source of our home field advantage

And this is what he said happened. This guy is supposed to go to one more game (Purdue) and he is afraid the guys are going to start something else with him. I feel terrible about it.

There was this crazy guy with really long hair and a beard throwing water battles at these fans who were booing. I think he yelled something about kittens or such. I asked an usher if he was going to do anything about it, but he shook his head and said, "Nah. He gave me a good deal on a t-shirt."

Sad story. I only recall a few mild altercations ever happening while I was at or on the way to a Michigan game. In 2003 I saw a dude from one of the frat houses on State St. (can't remember which one) dunk a trash can full of water over the head of a middle-aged ND fan (it was pretty hot, though, so I'm sure he dried off quickly). The other came in 2002 against Iowa when some female Iowa fan (who had apparently dusted a fifth of Tanqueray) was sitting in the student section with her shorts-wearing, walkman-listening, ND-fan boyfriend (Irish had just beaten FSU so he was acting like quite a douche as well). The woman kept screaming profanity and taunting everyone leaving the no-longer-competitive game. After a few rounds of insults didn't slow her down, myself and a few others (basically the only people left in the stadium at that point) proceeded to pelt her with ice and quarters until she finally left. Contrast this with Columbus, where in one afternoon I was repeatedly informed how much people wanted to "punch me in the fucking face" (and I hadn't hit them with ice cubes or anything). A bunch of sweethearts, that lot. Oh almost forgot, my buddy did once mutter something under his breath about pushing a 7 year old boy in an OSU sweatshirt to the ground, but I think he was just venting and nothing actually came of it.

Some kid in front of me kept asking where the penn state fans were so he could fight them. I told him to go hop onto the field and kill Joepa. His friend actually had to stop him. Most fun I had all day.

I went to the ND game this year with my brother (a recent graduate) and some of his friends (recent ND graduates.) Halfway through the first quarter some drunk frat boys sitting a row in front of us threw 2 full cups of pop at us. I was pissed because it got all over my new jersey... I ended up throwing a punch or two - luckly I didn't get tossed from the game but my friend and one of the instigators did. The ushers and rent-a-cop's came to things down, but the rest of them continued to give us crap the rest of the game. Anyway, I did my undergrad at MSU - this sort of thing is much more commonplace in EL. First time I have ever participated in / seen a fight at the big house but I guess there are always a few bad apples.

I remember there being a fight or something last year during the Wisky game. I don't know exactly what happened but DPS and ushers had to come up and escort a few drunk Badgers out of the stadium. Cops got a standing ovation from us as they were walking out.
