will be michigan's highest pick in a while
Fiesta Bowl open thread
Game over. Not enough fire power from KState to win this won
The commercials for this game have been fucking amazing.

1 point safety...don't see that every day
"Ohio is like a giant turd that Michigan just can't pinch off"
one point safety in football ever.
We hate Michigan State. We don't like Penn State too. We don't care for Minnesota, Wisconsin or Notre Dame but we all hate O-S-U.

The more I wish it was Oregon v Bama on monday Night....that would have been the game to see....too bad
New score prediction idea for Brian? I think so.
We will win our opener 23-1.
COYS and lets go Detroit FC!
I don't believe that is possible...the TD scoring team can be the only one getting a 1 pt safety apparenty
Why would that be? I mean it'd be ridiculous but what if the kicker picked up the ball and took it all the way back into his own endzone?
COYS and lets go Detroit FC!
But i thought if the ball got back to the opposing endzone, that it would be a 2 pt conversion for them, no?
Lets say the holder for the kick just picks up the ball, walks back to his own endzone, and takes a knee. That would be a safety, no?

Wouldn't that be a normal safety?
Ron Cherry help us!!!
If you're doing nothing, how do you know when you're finished?
might be too busy discussing someone giving someone else the business
Rules are the same both ways, right? If the defending team blocked the kick and returned it for a "TD," it would only be 2 points.

Wikipedia has all the answers:
"a one point conversion safety can only be scored by the offense in high school and professional play;[19][21] however, in college play a conversion safety can be scored by either the offense or the defense.[20] Although a defensive conversion safety has never been scored, it is the only possible way a team could finish with a single point in an American football game.[22]

Wikipedia is slightly wrong on this one, a 1 pt safety has occured before in college

Conversion attempt recovered by defensive team, they try and run it back for a two point conversion. Offense goes to prevent it after he's run say 95 yards, and causes the defender to fumble it. Someone on offense recovers, but doesn't fall on it. Picks it up to try ad return it back for 2 or just is stupid. Runs back into his own end zone, then is tackled. 1 point conversion.
"I love him, he's a great coach, he's a great mentor, he's a great friend. He's every single thing you want a college coach to be, and he does it flawlessly." -David Molk
Lets say the holder for the extra point just picks up the ball, walks back to his own endzone, and takes a knee. That would be a safety, no?

According to wikipedia, the defense can score safety on a conversion attempt, which is worth one point:
A much rarer occurrence is the one-point conversion safety, which can be scored by the offense on a try attempt. In college football, the defense can also score a conversion safety; while this has never happened, it is the only possible way an American football team could finish a game with a single point.
At first I was thinking this would be impossible because you'd have to score 1st ... but I suppose the other team could score, botch a play, somehow fall all the way back to their own endzone, and be tackled in their own endzone for a 1 point safety. Assuming that'd be a 1 point safety as opposed to just a failed PAT.
One possible scenario: the extra point is blocked and the defense returns it almost the whole way, but an offensive player manages to strip the ball at the last second and fall on it in his team's own endzone, giving up one point (but not two).
If you were wondering, yes, the referee in this game is the one who gave this legendary call:
Ron Cherry just peaked in life...a one point safety
...drink...this is a terrible idea
has a funny looking release and that might be the thing that hurts his NFL chances, at least he can take solace in the fact that he has a hot wife.
Why would you not just blitz the hell out KState? They aren't a vertical threat IMO.
I don't understand why Kansas State was taking their sweet ass time on the last drive
"Ohio is like a giant turd that Michigan just can't pinch off"
This actually turned out to be a relatively boring game, IMO. After the opening kickoff fireworks it just seemed like blah.
I was about to say the same thing. Tool Kenjon Barner and the Ducks offense a while to get going. Oregon's defense looked very solid.
Any game, and I mean ANY GAME, that features a one point safety is not boring. That and Oregon got to 35 as such: 8-15-22-25-32-35...those look like some mighty fine powerball numbers to me.
...drink...this is a terrible idea
The Oregon fight song is pretty crappy. They need to come up with a better one.
I watch Oregon and i'm a little bit sad. There was a time when they were our goal-state offense, when we had Denard and Tate, and our "spread and shred" was shiny and new and all things were possible.
Now Denard is gone and the last remains of the spread offense will be packed up and stored away.
It was a fun dalliance or a while. But summer vacation is over and now it's back to school.

Hello, NFL. Didn't give much indication he'd be back, and confirmed that his agent is talking; he was just waiting until the end of the season.

Will you settle for a 1 pt safety?
