when Bosch gave him the word.
Tennessee is not recruiting well just because they got 18 dudes
when Bosch gave him the word.
"I can't catch a break."
I don't deserve a break
Kyle: "Hey Coach, its Kyle. I'm in the shitter right now and it made me think of you. I have an opportunity to play bigtime football that recruits nationally. Thanks for your time. Im going to Ann Arbor"
marky: "But wait. Didnt you know that Ann Arbor is a whore? She will take anyone. We have "sparty-on" and everything. You will have a job at Walmart after you graduate, I guarantee that."
marky to assistants: "That G/D Hoke took another one of my recruits. I give up. We cant compete against Michigan. I am going to follow Nick's lead and throw in the towel. Wyoming needs a new coach. Who wants to go with me?"
This is Michigan, fergodsakes!
Kyle: I'm calling, because I'm about to commit to my dream school, and it made me think of you...
Dantonio: You're coming to sparty-on?! Finally! My national recruiting is recgonized!
Hoke whispers: Tell him you thought of him because you're in the shitter.
Kyle: No, I'm going to commit to Michigan. I thought of you because I'm in the shitter.
(Kyle and Hoke try to contain their chuckles)
Dantonio: Is that coach Hoke in the background?
(Hoke whispers to Kyle, laughing) Say no! Say no!
Kyle: No, that's just someone outside the stall door. Totally unrelated.
(Dantonio takes one of his assistant's phones and calls Hoke. Hoke's distinguishable ring tone, Xplosive by Dre, plays loudly)
Dantonio: I can hear Hoke's ring tone! Damnit Hoke! Why do you have to keep doing this to me? Stop with the crank calls!
Hoke: Hang up! Hang up!
Hoke and Kyle burst into laughter.
"I AM NOT HERE TO HEAR YOU TALK ABOUT MICHIGAN RECRUITING! BLARGH!"
*shoots self in face, lives*
Oh no you didn't.
I would love to have seen the expression on MD's puss when Bosch gave him the word.
Every picture of Mark Dantonio ever will give you a pretty good idea.
"Fuck you, Michigan." - Harvey Updyke
"Logan, you see that Best Buy right there, I have an asst. manager job with your name on it until next semester. Because, I, I care about your future as a football player, and as a person." -Nick Saban
"That god damn recruit said he was taking his talents to AA! I didn't know they let under 18 year olds into AA. His momma ought to be ashamed for letting her son get addicted to alcohol." -Random Alabama fan
"We better beat that god damn team at the Kickoff Classic now or I'm going to Medical Scholarship this entire team, god damn it! I can't believe I'm losing to these god damn guys on the recruiting trail. First Bosch and Dawson, now LTT? What more can I offer than a chance at the NFL?"
It is unfortunate that you arrived so late to the blog. You probably would have had a couple thousand points by now back in the good, old days a year ago.
I think if you are trying to become a mod you are making good progress.
The best part about Kyle Bosch commiting this weekend for me is that Sparty really thought they would get him and he would probably be the crown jewel of their class.
Now they think they're going to get guys like Kugler because, "Michigan's out of the O-line hunt." Kid has a mile long offer list.
Heard the same think about Pocic. Like Michigan being in the race was the only thing keeping Pocic from being a Spartan.
"He's going to be a Spartan, just like me!"
Not saying he's going to go to Ohio State. What I'm saying is that if we are done for OL(I don't believe we are), then I don't see State as the next destination for Pocic's services when he has offers from OSU, Arkansas, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and Clemson (he has so many, I didn't know what to list). That is all.
What a class act. I wonder what Dantionio said to him...
I read another article in which Bosch that Dantonio was very gracious and supportive when he told him he was coming to Michigan. I know, I was surprised too.
Why wouldn't he be? Bosch knows a lot of HS football players and his coach knows a lot of coaches. If MD showed his true colors, it would hurt recruiting in Illinois.
I dislike Dantonio as much as the next guy, but I doubt that he would really say anything negative to Bosch. He hasn't played for Michigan yet (or signed hi LOI...knock on wood) and is a kid that Dantonio has formed a relationship with. Probably was respectable.
a recruiting visit with Steve Buscemi would just be plain weird and scary.
It's like the Terminator trying to smile.
Oh sure, he's smiling, but you know it's just a computer simulation.
I actually had him pegged as closer to the Grinch. The only thing missing are termites in his smile.
Of course, the Grinch ultimately proves to be a loveable and endearing character, whereas Dantonio is just creepy and awkward. I have to believe just being in his presence has to make anyone uncomfortable.
The thing he has that none of these recruits have is a 2012 graduation. We are thin on the interior and can use help as soon as possible. I for one would still take Kozan in a heartbeat.
Especially because we need a lineman who is projected to be a center.
Exactly, getting only 4 OL in the 2012 class when we were willing to take up to 7, not good. We need talented bodies and we need them now.
You do know that, other than maybe Dawson, none of this weekend's recruits project to center, right?
Posted this in the Kozan thread too:
I'll happily welcome him into the fold if/when he chooses to Go Blue. I still fail to believe the lack of understanding of the stress a teenager could feel making what must feel like a huge commitment and likely the biggest decision of his life.
Just like it was tiring hearing the whiners talk about "not closing" our top 10/top 5 recruiting class, the folks who continue to throw out statements about Kozan not being 100% committed and moving on prove tedious as well.
Kozan is a great prospect and plays a position of need. I couldn't care less if it takes him two months to decide. I hope to see him on the field in the Big House sometime soon!
I agree - Kozan would still be a big pick up. We're going to be thin on the OL in 2013, and these guys in the 2013 class won't help for that. Kozan is a guy who could back up Jack Miller and allow Bars to play guard exclusively. We don't want to rely on 2013 commits to play in 2013.
It would allow us the option of not taking another OL this class if we felt we did not need to or allow us to sit on guys like Pocic or Tunsil as the final OL members. Take us much time as you need Kozan, but go Blue.
Remember that we still haven't solved our Center problem. Move Dawson or one of the 2012 guards over and these kids are a long way off from playing. I would still like to have Kozan so he can start at center. I also highly doubt that kid is coming to Michigan, what is taking so long to make a decision?
I always do my best thinking in the bathroom
Thank God for morning deuces.
always the answer for everyone - there are those that just need to find a quiet bathroom!
...I don't know what will! Outstanding! Tremendous!
You down with LTT, ya you know me!
Can we call him LT^2, cause that makes him sound more badass than Lawrence Taylor and Ladanian Tomlinson.
I call him Logie.
His Momma call him Logie, I call him Logie
Outstanding pick ups for Michigan. You guys see any of these guys becoming a 5 star? Maybe LTT?
are both higher rated right now than LTT, though of the bunch, probably Fox has the best chance.
I really think Chris Fox has an excellent chance, at least on Rivals. He has a 6.0 ratings right now, which is comparable to Morris. I personally also think Logan Tuley-Tillman should be very close as his offer list is incredible. A lot will depend on how these guys do at the Big Man camps this Summer. It sure will be fun watching all of these commits over the next year!
If you head over to Touch the Banner you'll see Magnus' scouting report on LTT and I tend to agree with him. I think the reason he's pulled in so many huge offers is two-fold. One, he was very active in getting his tape out, making visits, and pulling in these offers instead of waiting for teams to come to him. And two, he has a TON of upside due to his speed and the way his body carries his weight. However, at this time he is still very raw, and while the rankings project, they also take his current skill set into account. I really think he's perfectly placed right in the 100 range.
I think the basketball game may have had an immeasurable effect on this weekend's recruiting.
Interested to see how our OLs fare in the summer camp circuits...
I think it had a measurable effect... Measured at least 8 commitments large. :-)
I agree. Maybe Hoke & Beilein are even now after McGary lived it up at the WMU game? More deals like this, please.
Everyone knows the bathroom echo..
I see that we are 1 of 5 teams he is warm to and the only one not in the South. Any idea if we get him or is the door closed? Does he have a timeline? Any idea what this weekend does to his train of thought? What about Pocic? Do we take both if they both want to come?
I doubt we'd have room to take both Tunsil and Pocic, but having them both want to Go Blue would be a nice problem for the coaches to sort out!
Word is he's a heavy Florida lean. He's from there and grew up a gator fan.
I'm no expert, but I bet UM is done with OL unless they take a true center prospect.
If Pocic waits until the end of the process and UM has an open spot, they could take another obvs.
He is a Florida lean, but there's definitely an interest in Michigan:
Derek Tyson @DerekTysonESPN
Tunsil on #Michigan: "I like Darrell Funk coaches the o-line. I watch Michigan games all the time and I just like the way their line plays."
I do think we have as good a shot as one can have for a kid out of Florida with no ties to the school and one who grew up as a fan of one of the in-state schools. I pretty much discounted our chances as quickly as I announced them, huh? I think we can get him on campus. It'll be tough battle to get him, but we'll see. We have a lot to offer.
They were great but it came down to academics. Oh sweet last laugh.
I was just getting ready to comment on the same thing. Surprised it took this long. I suspect geography is the unstated factor really.
Whatever the case, good payback for Garnett.
Did the strength coaches approve this? I thought lugging 30 lbs of books to class was part of their training.
They will probably just stick a 45 lb plate in their backpack now.
Back in my day we had to lug our books TO and FROM class, uphill, in a snowstorm!, with lightning!
With Live Wolverines running around campus.
To think, the greatest weekend in memory for Michigan athletics started with Kyle Bosch's morning deuce...
The second best reason to go to Michigan! The first . . . I'll just leave you to work that one out!
UM, Stanford, MSU. "One of these things is not like the others..." I see which one was thrown out first haha
Credit to Kyle Busch for calling the coaches he was turning down.
Anyone know if that is standard operating procedure, or do most recruits simply let other coaches find out via the media like everybody else?
I've read reports from many players calling a coach to commit, then calling the others to let them know. I think it's fairly standard, but stil a classy move.
I've also noticed that, unlike Bosch, it seems that the calls usually go in the order I described: Call and commit ("lockign in" the decision.) Then calling the the coaches to give them the FYI.
I suppose when you call from the Crisler Center, the other coaches probably know they don't have a chance to talk the player out of the decision, not that they would necessarily try anyway.
And credit to him for leaving NASCAR, we all know that was just a pipe dream.
We're getting Kyle Busch now too?! Have to love that .44 40 speed!
Academics! Ha! Eat it, Stanford!
Where are all the 5 stars? All these 4 star committs are getting old...
I think at the least Shane and Fox should will be 5 stars and we may have some more news this week.
Fighting Illini fans must be pretty bummed to see such a good in-state class getting raided by so many other schools. It doesn't appear that Bosch or LTT had ANY interest in the University of Illinois at all. And it's only going to continue by the Zooks of it. I mean, by the looks of it. Damned Freudian typos.
They have a chance with Pocic and he's better than they historically get...although he may end up somewhere else, too!
I agree, would suck to be an Illini fan right now.
They're probably used to it.
Great comments, great recruits, and it is NO SURPRISE to me that Don and Softball are on here talking about Dantonio. Those two simply cannot let that school or that coach out of their heads. YUCK..
These are the kinds of times that separate us from the Alabamas of the college football world. Saban can keep his 4 and 5-stars that will jump ship after 3 years. I'll take the high-character kids who come here to prepare for life after football, but also win us some Rose Bowls, and maybe a NC on the side.
My guess is the word "NFL" never comes out of Hoke's mouth on a recruiting visit. He clearly does his homework on the type of guys he recruits.
Didn't really think about this until I came across your post, but doesn't it make sense for kids to hold no loyalty to Saban when they know that he'd drop them like a bad habbit after just one injury or a poor season?
I agree and am glad M focuses on moreso on character, family, tradition, etc. than the promise of mega millions at the next level.
that after this weekend all in-state recruits that Michigan offered have committed?
Only target missed was Elmer to ND...pretty good haul no matter how you dice it!
MD's weekend must have sucked! To get that call on a Saturday, and then hear the just tidelwave of future Wolverines committing. These are the creme of the crop in the Midwest, and unless MD plans to "recruit nationally" I don't see him being pleased.
Quote overheard from Hoke this weekend:
Dr. Jones. Dantonio, again we see there is nothing you can possess which I cannot take away."
This is my favorite quote from the weekend:
"It feels so great. Honestly I just came to a realization that these other places were great opportunities, but Michigan is where I belong," he said. "I told my mom and called my dad, and then I called Coach (Darrell) Funk and Coach (Brady) Hoke. Coach Hoke's wife was yelling when I told them."
I'd like to take some credit for Bosch's schoolmates putting subliminal messages into his head. My buddies nephew is a classmate of Kyle's. We gave explicit intructions that he is to wear Michigan gear until Kyle commits to the Wolverines. Our plan worked flawlessly.
too long; did read.
the home of verbose recruits.
1 month to finish teaching Dantonio the lesson in Michigan recruiting Hecklinki was so rudely prevented from completing.
reinforce the legend of Hoke's golden (aka rainbow) poop? Just asking.
