too see this class in the next few years. hopefully wormley and pipkins can be dominant dts
A few minor recruiting notes 12/24
IIRC, isn't Wormley is a DE? Or at least being recruited as one?
Yes. But there is some speculation that he could get bigger and move inside. Personally I'll believe it when I see it.
Wormley's already around 270, and he looks like he could add at least 30 pounds w/o losing any athleticism. Then, it really becomes a question of whether the coaches want an athletic giant on the inside or outside. FWIW, RVB played around 290 this year.
The strong side DE is a 5 technique and is pretty much a DT in resposibility but a DE in title. Wormley is built perfectly for this position as is Strobel.
I'd argue that Strobel is more suited for it (the 5 tech), but some may disagree. I think Wormley could be a menace in the middle, if he's playing around 300. He stands up well in the run, but he'd also be an relentless pash rusher. But until we see how they fill out, it's only a matter of conjecture.
Where the hell is RJS on that list?
Since you can't be bothered to open the link, he was one of the "more seniors considered".
Joe Bolden is also in the consideration group.
He is the #26 recruit in the Midwest, the worst spot to be in on a list of the top 25 recruits in the Midwest.
The more I hear the more I get excited about the future of this team. If we can pull in Barnet, Wright, and Reeves I think I might blow my egg nog.
I believe you mean Garnett.
Do not read the comments on that 24/7 article. Apparently Ohio is going to get every five star in the midwest, the country, and the greater milky-way galaxy next year.
They recruit intergalactically now.
More time not losing recruits
It is annoying to think that Ohio already has as many top midwest recruits as us...
These recruiting notes are Christmas come early. Thanks.
I've heard recently that Yuri Wright is favoring ND now, anyone know how much truth there is to that?
Why wouldn't he? He's taken two visits, one to ND and one to Colorado. Even I would chose ND over Colorado. I would love if he took his visit to ND and hated it, but that just isn't realistic. Let him finish his visits, including to us, and then see where he stands.
Which isn't uncommon for a kid who just took said visit.
Look at Banner and Payton, after the Night Game.
Oh, and Wright's last visit was to Colorado for crying out loud, I am sure he had a blast at Notre Dame, when compared to Colorado. Now compared to Michigan, well, we'll see here soon enough, and very soon... When Yuri Wright visits A2.
I bet he's so blown away ... he commits.
is front page worthy
Does anybody know how much of an influence he has on YW? Both kids from Don Bosco favoring ND.
doesnt ND already have two highly rated DBs? why would YW wanna go there?
because contrary to what most message board posters seem to think elite athletes usually aren't scared off by competition. Wright is one of the best corners on one of the best teams in the country. If he wants to go to ND he won't be scared off by competition. Hopefully he loves Michigan on his visit though.
On that note, you are saying that commitments from Wright and Reeves would not influence TRich then?
ND wants Shumate as either a DB or a RB
Whatever happened to Tristan Nickelson of the 2013 class? I was just wandering the recruiting interwebs and came back across him. He seemed like a serious prospect with some serious interest in Michigan but he still is listed as having no offers on Rivals and Scout and with 2013 offers starting to get going I would think he'd be near the top of the list for Michigan and others. The interview with his dad back in the summer made him seem like one of the top players in the country.
I'm sorry this is a bit OT but why are OSU fans talking shit to Ondre Pipkins on twitter? I mean it doesn't even look like Ondre said anything really bad... this is just classless.
like Ondre's over there stirring up trouble with ohio fans on twitter and I'm digging that about him!
Looks like he re-tweeted some cut from a UM fan to a ohio fan and then the shit storm started.
I just never understand why OSU fans are following Pipkins or Shane Morris in the first place
seems like our more athletic if not smaller DEs may do better vs Urban's spread vs giants like spence and washington.
I'm not sure who you're referring to as our smaller DEs, but of our four committed DE, 3 of them fall well within the giant category. Ojemudia is the only one who doesn't. And Washington also isn't that big when it comes to DE recruits. I would have included Pittman in there over Washington.
Yeah, 2 or maybe 3 of our DEs will grown into Tackles. Godin already has for the most part.
Dont sell yourself short Gobluegr, there's no such thing as a minor recruiting note around here. :)
Darboh on the list = Merry Christmas Michigan. Surprised no mention of RJS seeing he's a High School 1st team All American to ESPN. Of course ESPN sees eye to eye with exactly zero other recruiting services, but RJS is a beast.
You're an awesome human, gobluegr.
for the info, recruiting news is a bit slow right now (dead period).
Re Yuri according to scout Yuri's teammate WILL have a major impact on him, but UM still feels confident.
Sam Grant-On rivals said he felt "at home" and "comfortable" at Arkansas. Sounds like every other interview he has done so far. Take from it what you will.
Sam over on scout is doing a lot on Garnett lately. He tends not to do that unless he has some sort of feeling about the kid. Be warned he did the same thing on the Sean Parker and he chose UDub. So....
Sean Parker was a silent commit, and then switched to Washington. Sam was right to handle the situation as he did, the change to Washington was unexpected, to say the least. Not to mention, he's right on about 98% of recruiting related estimations. Like TomVH, kids respect him and trust him not to go public with information they don't want. He isn't out there hounding them for information like users like MSpeedKills and other recruiting analysts (note-I don't throw Ace in there, don't get me wrong. After having worked with him for a while, I know he's nothing but respectful, just hasn't yet developed the rapport with the kids for the 2012 class, but I have a feeling the '13 class will be good for him).
Additional note- I am by no means suggesting that Sam Webb thinks Garnett's a silent, or even a lean. I'm willing to bet GBW just makes him throw this stuff on the premium message boards every now and then to bait subscriptions.
our chances are with Garnett?
It's hard to get a good read on him, he plays a lot of things close to the vest. If he were to decide right now, I think it would probably be Stanford, but Michigan would be a VERY close second.
I've been more confident about our shots with other prospects this year, but I still think (as long as we play well in the Sugar Bowl and the staff keeps recruiting him hard) that there's a good chance he'll sign with us.
I meant no disrespect to Sam Webb, I have ran into him more then once. He does excellent work. Like I was saying though, he doesn't put THIS MUCH information up on a kid unless something is up, and two days ago he created around 3 or 4 threads about one kid. When he does that there is useually a reason for it.
re Sean Parker. Only brought it up because people can change their mind or can flat out miss on a kid. Most people over on scout don't like to acknowledge it, but Nevada on OSU board may be the best in the biz when it comes to calling kids, and he has been wrong a time or two.
Off topic, but there are rumors that a defensive lineman is going to be out for the bowl game. Not Martin or VanBergen, he was classified as one of our rotational DLineman. Based on the wording of the info I am guessing it is Heininger.
Rumor came from a premium site so I can't link. Just giving a heads up, it should be out there pretty soon if true.
that Nathan Brink broke his leg in practice.
You can say that again.
Thanks for the info
YES! Wormley pad level mention! But why no pad level for the rest of the recruits? Sad face.
