And now I will tear apart all of your comments to figure out who the 1st guy is...
A few interesting recruiting notes (3-26-12 edition)
such as the last sentence of his first paragraph
I will save you the trouble, he's been calling Isaac to Michigan for awhile now.
I agree with you on Isaac, but he's also been pretty positive on Poggi to Michigan as well so I wouldn't rule that out
I thought about Poggi too. I'd really like to get him, but I think the shutting the site down for an hour and a half comment by RDT was the clincher for me thinking it's Isaac.
A Bama fan is the perfect cover for one of our former gurus to come back undetected. At first I thought this was a tin hat theory, but man... the more inside info a random Bama fan has about the Michigan program, the more I'm thinking we have a mole somewhere. That being said, I love every second of it...
I'll be cryptic with my guess. His name has a connection to this guy.
Chef is voiced by Isaac Hayes......I see where you're going with this.
You're saying the recruit has to do with that name. Ahhhhh I don't think that's who he's referring to at all. I mean come on man Justice Hayes committed last year. *sarcasm*
The chefs hat clearly says "Levenberry muffins" to me....
IIRC Issac Hayes Jr.?
Woody Hayes will be brought back to become Michigan's team chef?!?!?!?!?!?
Who is the man that would risk his neck for brother man!!!
So it's definitely somebody who has a beard...
Somebody get me a list of every recruit we've offerred that has a beard, stat!
Nope. It's definitely someone from Colorado, which is where South Park is located. Clearly this is a sign that Alex Ko....oh wait, my bad.
That pretty much confirms its Ty. He talked about it in his last update as a guy who he was confident would pull the trigger
O'Daniel will not play the same spot. From everything I've read, O'Daniel is a WILL and EJ is a SAM. Levenberry is much bigger than o'Daniel.
In height, but I'd say EJ is ony 6'2. Ben is 6'4, and is probably destined for the WILL spot.
Edit: Dorian's height is a factor, but he was slated to play the SAM spot. That's what Clemson is recruiting him for anyway.
Different defenses. In our D, the SAM is almost a DE, and that's where EJ is being recruited. ODaniel, being almost a safety size, was being recruited at WILL, but in our D that's almost interchangeable with the MIKE, and we brought in a lot of those guys last year. Since Gedeon is likely a MIKE as well, him leaning our way is probably why we told ODaniel thanks but no thanks.
I have no idea what kind of defense Clemson runs, but is their SAM used in the same way that we use our SAM? That could make a huge difference in this conversation.
EDIT: WolvinLA answered it. Different defenses so the point about EJ and DO playing the same position is pointless.
Alabama might play guys differently than Michigan, but Levenberry is probably a MIKE or maybe a SAM. Gedeon is probably a MIKE. O'Daniel would have been a WILL.
These coaches like small-ish, fast-ish guys to play the WILL position.
Give me a call Coach Hoke! I sound perfect for the WILL spot.
Clemson doesn't know how to build a defense, use the Orange bowl as your reference.
Who just moved up here get insider contacts who are texting him Michigan recruiting info? I'm not saying you've steered anyone wrong...but how did you get on the inside when it's not even the team you're a fan of? Or are these just national recruiting contacts?
You are thinking too small. They are texting him National recruiting info, not just Michigan info. Hoke's out there stealin ur dudez.
It can't me national recruiting info. There was no mention of Michigan State.
Well that's because they recruit Internationally now
I've been wondering the same...
But what you're forgetting, is that most of the kids that I mention in these updates are national recruits. You don't have to be a "Michigan guy" to get info about National kids. Have you ever read anything I've written about a state of Michigan kid? No, because I've never written anything. I have however, written about Dawson, who had a Bama offer. Again, if my updates bother anyone, I'll be happy to stop. I've stated this before, my info comes from knowing a lot of people deeply rooted in a lot of top HS programs in the state of Alabama, who know a lot of people. You think you guys love recruiting? It's all we do in the off season in Alabama. We don't have an NFL team to worry about we have recruiting, it's what we know.
THEY DO NOT BOTHER ANYONE. I SPEAK FOR ALL ON THIS BOARD.
Your recruiting updates are extremely informative for a board post and I like that they come with the added prosepective of an outside view. I appreciate the time you take to post these updates.
I concur with you guys, keep on keepin' on RDT
By all means, please don't. You have no motive for just posting any random crap you can think of and labelling it "insider" information ala Ace Williams, page clicks profit Brian , not you. And so far you seem to have very sound judgment about what the treshold is for solid information. By all means, most of us probably can't get enough recruiting info and I like hearing about what other fanbases are doing as well, so keep it coming.
Please continue spreading the wealth. Interesting material in a long off season.
Please keep the updates comming. Many of us appreciate the added insight.
But I just wonder how high school coaches in Bama know what kids in Illinois are going to do. And more than recruiting analysts who are following Michigan recruits. Aren't they concerned with doing things like winning high school football games? So far you've insinuated that guys who are popularly thought to favor Michigan are going to go to Michigan...if you've got any surprises from off the board, let us know.
But don't threaten to take your recruiting ball and go home just because people like sourcing on Internet rumors. And stop upvoting your own posts...it's bad etiquette, and doesn't instill any more confidence in the sincerity of your posting.
Seems a bit harsh. The guy is doing us a favor by giving us some info that we all enjoy getting. At no point has he been malicious in anything he has done. He came to this site, and got his feet wet very slowly, and now puts some pretty good stuff on the board. He has been nothing but classy, so there is no reason for us to not be the same. Also, he never said the guys from Alabama were coaches, he said they were deeply rooted in the high school football programs in Alabama. Maybe they are coaches and maybe they aren't, but there is no reason to jump to conclusions on the guy or his sources. He has brought good insight to the board thus far, and until he stops doing that, I don't think there is any reason to question his motives. And as far as upvoting his own posts, if he wants to get a few extra imaginary mgopoints, I don't think it is going to kill anyone.
As a life long Lions fan you can count your self lucky not having a pro team. Lord knows the depression we have had the last ( put in your own number here) years of Sunday night call in shows venting our asses off.
i'm sure many would say they do have a couple pro football teams in alabama.
I enjoy the updates, but your internet credibility is riding this. I hope your right, because that's worth a lot.
I'm a pretty old school user and I enjoy your content. In the MgoUniverse you separate the wheat from the chaff in terms of content/comments. As it stands, until Brian fixes the point system and re-enables the neg bang you'll have your moments of frustration.
Keep up the talking points.
He came here as an awe-shucks Alabama fan, who just respects college football, likes this board, and wants to share and talk college football ... says very little about Alabama unless pressed to do so <-- that is very rare of any fanbase, and then suddenly becomes a recruiting guru for, ugh -- Michigan? Well played, Mauer, well played ... your Oscar is in the mail, great gimmick! That said, seems like a cool guy.
Perceptions of the Alabama fan.base. Thanks for your info.
Most of the old-school Bama fans are pretty civil; good passionate fans
It's the post-Saban era ROLL GOD_DAMN FING TIDE MOFOOOO!! fans that can be a bit annoying
living in the heart of SEC country, believe it or not RDT is not too far removed from my experience of Alabama fan base in general. same with the auburn fan base - pretty cool peeps. it's the gator fan base that is the most repulsive group of fans on the planet except for the ones that poop in coolers. that article brian linked to a few weeks ago about the ohio fanbase could have just as esaily been about the gator fan base.
I've been down to Clemson a few times and have been to games and I found the fans to be very nice and way classier than any Big Ten fans on game day. Not the SEC but same region. Also, the women... Oooh the women..
Sometimes it's hard for me to separate a fan base from how a program is run, despite the fact there's probably, at best, a limited correlation.
I try to think of this previous statement when Michigan finds itself in expediency vs. integrity dilemmas.
RDT, I greatly enjoy both your national & Michigan-centric recruiting updates. They are always a good read - they are so entertaining that I can overlook your enthusiastic love, of commas. :)
In all seriousness I do look forward to reading them, thanks for posting.
RDT do you have a blog I can subscribe to? HAHAHA! I'm still holding you to Issac!
It's "Isaac" fergodsakes.
Jesus H. Christ....Isaac, there.
What was Jesus' middle name?
I've heard Fucking, Roller-Blading, Ice-Skating, Tap-Dancing, and Herbert. Since he used H as the middle initial, Herbert must be correct.
There's an old joke that the "H" is short for Harold which is why folks say "Harold be thy name."
I'd always assumed it was Jesus Hefner Christ. In fact, I'm still not so sure it isn't.
Clearly the H stands for Hunwick. Duh.
See? That's much better than "Who's this Ty Issac character? I don't see him listed as a running back on any of the recruiting sites."
RDT, blink twice if the first guy isn't Ty Isaac.
File this under speculation as well surrounding Su'a Cravens. There won't be a commitment from him any time soon, but I found the following video interesting. Anyone who has insider access to Rivals should watch his recruiting update video. For those without access, I will just say I like our chances. For those with access -
It was a good video, Michigan, Ohio, and Nebraska. We will have a fair shot at the only 5* in Cali for sure.
1. He seems like a good guy, not fond of the spotlight. He's rushing through the interview nervously, being careful with his words. He's level-headed.
2. I think it's between us, Nebraska and USC. I think Michigan and Nebraska are up ahead with USC a little further behind. Michigan was the first school that came to his mind and he has a previous connection with Hoke. At Nebraska he has a former teammate that he seems close with. It sounds like he's only visiting Ohio just for the celebrity factor of meeting Urban Meyer.
Denard hung with the Pres.
Unfortunately I know that recruits consider Meyer a celebrity.
I've heard that USC is really in the lead, with UM and Nebraska next up. I think USC is a childhood favorite and has the geographic advantage. I know he said distance isn't an issue, but when the family and friends weigh in, that sometimes changes.
If Cravens were to make my year and choose Michigan, how does he fit in with Dymonte? Can they take up both safety spots or do they both look like the same type? I don't know enough about how interchangeable the FS and SS spots are? What do you look for in each? I've always assumed one is a ball hawk and one is just an assassin.
Thanks for the info as always. As an Alabama fan and it being known that Poggi is mainly down to Michigan and Bama, how do you feel about him. I'm curious if you feel like either leads since he has said all along he will decide soon!
First guy has gotta be Ty Isaac then. RDT has been saying he will Go Blue for awhile. Ty Isaac + pretty much anyone would be freaking awesome. I will not get my hopes up too high though.
Someone apparently hates you.
LOL. Perfect when combined with your avatar.
They sure do.
...then gray shirted 14 years to attend special ed college prep courses (12 grade levels plus 2 years to complete kindergarten)
...green shirted 1 year for enrolling early in the first kindergarten class
... redshirted 3 years (one regular, one for playing in a red Alabama jersey, and one medical redshirt for overactive bladder (after drinking xs coke and telling the president on TV: "I gotta pee."))
That's 18 years in all.
18+1994=2012, which is now.
So, according to Nick Saban, he's got at least 4 years of eligibility left.
SO if Isaac is in fact the masked man and does commit in the next several weeks this creates a very familiar situation in my opinion. If he does come that means Shallman is now 3rd on the depth chart in his own class! Thats not good . . . if you are Wyatt and want to play RB at Micigan that is. I know, I know Shallman was told that he was recruited to play RB, but they accepted that commitment before they had thunder and lightning commits in Smith and Isaac. I know I'm not Hoke, but look at the tapes on all 3 guys and you'd come to the same conclusion.
I know some are going to kill me for this but its pretty logical I think. Nobody thats that man and is a 4-star player is high school is going to go to a school where he projects to be 3rd fiddle . . . in his own class whats more. This could change the whole process for Shallman much the way things changed last year with one Caleb Stacey. Stacey was one of our first commits, and at a position of need as well. He then started to see his chance at PT dwindle in his own mind and decided to go elsewhere, somewhere more favorable to his PT. Shallman is not an idiot. I would bet he knew who else Mich was recruiting in his class and made a play to sort of head'em off at the pass with commiting so early. Now the other 2 dudes come anyway . . . what now?? He knows that this seriously reduces his chance at being an RB at Mich which leaves him with a couple choices.
1. Still go as an RB and take his chances.
2. Switch Positions . . . TE, DL
I hope the kid sticks it out, but I wouldnt be surprised to see him look around now. Just 2 cents.
You make more big leaps there. How do you know he's already third in this class? What if he's better than Smith and Isaac? Seriously.
That said, I'd be OK with him moving to DL if he was. I would love him to be a SDE, but to have like three plays that he runs on offense as a short yardage guy, or decoy. A 280 pound guy who can carry the rock would be a nice secret weapon.
while you and I think that would be great I think you have a hard time convincing Shallman to come and carry the ball twice a game over his career. I think Hoke would find more uses out of that scholarship if he refused to play another position.
I doubt he'll refuse. Like I said below, I think we are the only school that has offered him at RB. But again, youre making some big leaps. He might be better than one or both of those guys, so who knows.
Obviously its all conjecture as we are not coaches but I think almost anyone would agree that Shallman would be 3rd best of that group. You're right we will see!! I hope he stays.
Just because you feel one way, doesn't mean "almost anyone" would agree. The recruiting services, for example, largely rate Shallman higher than Smith.
He's rated higher not as a runner, but as an athlete. One of the biggest reasons he chose Michigan was that they recruited him as a runner. Every other school on his offer list wants him as a FB type or DL, not an every down runner. His rating as a 4-star reflects his ability to play multiple positions but specifically positions other than RB.
Who is he really competing against?
I think this is apples and oranges.
Maybe, Khalid Hill. He is being recruited for the "U-Back" position. I'm not sure if U-Back and H-Back are interchangeable.
So by calling it you mean stating the only three things that could possibly happen...
This is our concern, Dude.
He is still so different than both Isaac and Smith that I think he will have a spot in the offense no matter what. He could have a chance of starting at FB right away IMO, and he would be a beast in short yardage and goal line situations. I also don't think that he is the kind of kid who will run away from competition.
I never saw him as a guy that would get a ton of carries anyways. The thing that's so great about Shallman is that he's a guy that can play multiple positions. We could give him goal-line carries and also play him at another position at the same time, such as TE. We could also permanantly move him to defense if for some reason he rarely sees the field on offense.
I doubt Shallman decommits. Unlike Stacey, he's a Michigan kid who truly likes the school. Secondly, not many schools recruited him at RB, so if his concern with M is having to switch positions, them he'll see that at almost all his other options too.
The coaches like him at RB, and they'll start him there. If he doesn't stick he's a guy who will want to see the field and he knows he can contribute at other spots. Also, if he bulks up any more, RB might not be an option anyway. Dude's already 265.
To run a bit further with this speculation, where did Shallman sit with our local rivals prior to his commitment?
This isn't NCAA12. The recruiting rankings do not determine the depth chart. Whoever proves it when they get on campus will get the job
Neg me for this if I missed a thread, but where can I read info on RDT to get me to where the rest of you are where you actually believe he's been getting legit inside UM recruiting info? Ace, Sam, TVH, Brian, Aqua, I'm there with, but I feel like I'm missing a legitimacy datapoint on RDT you all seem to already possess.
I appreciate his write-ups, but I take the information with a grain of salt because I don't really know his sources like the others you mentioned.
Majority of us are recruiting addicts and even some of us who hate it still participate in discussion. I think people just appreciate new any which way we can get it as long as it is not coming from Ace Williams.
You must, because you pretty much described me and my feelings (on the subject 0f this thread) perfectly.
All-in-all, I find RDT's take interesting, so no reason to attack him as a messenger. OTOH, I think it's good to see things from an outsider's perspective, and time will tell whether he's on the mark.
I've pretty much assumed all along that "Roll Damn Tide" is a Michigan fan. It seems rather implausible that a guy who supposedly came here to find out more about the Michigan team has, in the span of a few weeks, morphed into an insider giving us privileged info.
In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he's the same guy who used to post recruiting updates under the handle "gobluegr." Consider:
and RDT seems very knowledgeable about Bama.
Gobluegr may still post, but his series of "a few minor recruiting notes" posts mysteriously stopped, right around the time RDT started dropping knowledge. It's interesting.
That was also close around when Tremendous started picking up steam though, so it might be that they just started putting up all their updates over there once they had a viewership who would actually see them.
He walks among us, disguised for anonymity. With his identity protected, he no longer needs to be cryptic. He can make predictions at will and continue to feed our recruiting addiction in secrecy.
As far as Hoke recruiting goes.
...but if Isaac does sign here, with the O-line we're going to have, does anybody know of anywhere I could put money down on 2015 Heisman Trophy futures?
Smith very well may get the bulk of the carries for 2/3 years. Smith = Ron Dayne
Smith = Dayne
Haha hadn't heard that one yet, Fred.
@Chi-Blue, I think you're jumping ahead of yourself. With our reversion to a pro-style offense, running the ball 35+ times a game, there will be plenty of carries to go around. Secondly, these kids can't be worried about competition. Injuries happen. Stars don't guarantee you will succeed. You have to earn it. 5 star guys don't always pan out (Grady, Fargus, Walter Cross). Underrated, undersized guys emerge to set records (Mike Hart). You never know until you go out there, strap on the pads and hit someone.
And if Ty does commit soon, this will just be Michigan getting back to its historical roots. Remember backfields of yore: T. Wheatley, Ricky Powers and Jesse Johnson all splitting carries?
It may not have been at Michigan, but Justin Fargas definitely panned out.
There is a huge difference between "didn't quite live up to top national recruit hype" and "didn't pan out." The dude was a 3rd round draft pick, played 7 years in the NFL, had a thousand yard rushing season and another where he ran for 850.
He had a mediocre college career because of injuries, position switches and a transfer. He had as good of a pro career as almost any M running back ever has.
Point is, Grady's and Fargas' situations are not comparable.
I was very young, but yes I have seen some tape of those days. However, those were guys in a different system and under a different staff. Both Borges and Hoke have stated since they got here that they wnat one back to carry the mail, and one other to give some carries as well. In the system they want that means back 1 gets 25-30 carries and back 2 8-12 carries, or somewhere in that area. Smith is going to be 5'11 and 225, and a battering ram, and Isaac is the hit the hole and gone guy, and thats a pretty nice one two punch.
I agree that stars dont make a player, but do you think that Shallman looks like a better back than Isaac or Smith??
And the Oscar goes to ... RollDamnTide :)
Keep them coming sir!! but we will understand if you stop and u disappear once michigan beats bama!
I doubt anyone here wants this guy to stop!
It just seems a bit fishy, that's all.
Someone here doesn't like me ... awe shucks.
Im guessing that the 2 likely committments will be at the spring game. Is there a list yet of who's going?
Good question, Ball Hawk.
EDIT: Ace said he'd have the list up that week.
He said EJ Levenberry should be there, so that's one.
Why does RDT always disappear after he posts now? Fishy...
I take back the fishy thing.....don't wanna steal Benke's thunder. It's odd?
I'm apparantly in time-out for some reason - lol
I hope we land Ty Isaac and EJ Levenberry.
Do people think Gedeon will come before Levenberry?
ehh we've already got 2 guys we can use in this class for rb's, i'd rather spend scholarships on positions we need more, like in the secondary or wideouts.
if we get isaac, great, but i think deveon smith committing might make him consider elsewhere.
Same goes with Levenberry.
I don't think we'll take a 3rd LB unless it's Levenberry, and I doubt we take a 3rd RB unless it's Isaac. I fully expect us to take both, if they want to commit. My real question here is, if Levenberry commits before Gedeon, do we take Gedeon as our 3rd LB? I would, though I'd love to here the opinions of others. It's a nice problem to have.
EDIT: can the MODs please stop this nonsense?
To what nonsense are you referring?
It's pretty weak. Almost every post I have made today has been labeled flaimbait, off topic, etc .. it's really annoying, and I have seen it done to others as well, who are just trying to have a civil conversation, add information that fits the thread in queston. It's hard to read the content when so much is taken out via misguided and mislabeled "moderation" is all, so I thought I'd bring it up. Anyway, that's all, back to the topic at hand, which I believe are recruiting notes.
Yeah, it's mostly due to your "Hey everyone, they said my twitter handle on the radio" post, and it got worse when you continued making posts complaining about it.
It's not hard to read content when people downvote you. Just don't look at it. I rarely look at how many points a post has, so it hasn't affected my ability to follow the convo. You making 10 posts complaining about being in time out, has slowed me down a little.
I am gonna go with Isaac simply based on "I am pretty sure the board will be very hard to access..." and as for the second, who cares if we get Isaac :)
He just got offered by USC.
Apparently Sam Webb says the coaches are planning for this class to be 24 recruits. That means we have 8 spots left. I hope we finish with Ty Isaac, Henry Poggi, EJ Levenberry, Ben Gedeon, LaQuon Treadwell, Darell Daniels, Greg Webb and Su'a Cravens.
That's the first I'd heard of Darrell Daniels, but all in all that group would be an incredible finish to the class. That would have to be the #1 class in the country, would fill all of our needs, and would be packed with stars.
If that happens, I would predict that in the four years those guys were in AA, they'd lose no more than 4 games.
Daniels is just one of many high quality receivers we are in hot pursuit of. You can check out interviews and updates about Daniels on Tremendous' site: http://thisismichiganfootball.blogspot.com/2012/03/darrell-daniels-update.html
A few of the other receivers we are looking at: Eldridge Massington, Devon Allen, Marquez North, Sebastian LaRue, Marcell Ateman, Demorea Stringfellow and Uriah LeMay. Of course our #1 target is Laquon Treadwell. The only problem I see is that Treadwell is the only one from the Midwest so it may be challenging to get these guys to visit.
Unbelievable that, although all those will not commit, none of them (based solely on what I've read) are out of the question. In fact we may lead for most. Gotta hand it the Dave Brandon - Hoke was his guy and it is making him look like a genius thus far.
I just made a recruiting spreadsheet for myself today that included a 'somewhat realistic dream class' that had seven of those eight players. I substituted Vanderdoes for Daniels. I shared the spreadsheet with WolvinLA2. He'll confirm this.
Vanderdoes too! Daniels is also one of my favorite recruits. I dont know if i could choose between the two. Maybe i would substitute WEbb with Vanderdoes???
I'm no insider but Isaac just said he's not close to a decision. He has a few in front and they know who they are but he's going to chill on it until it feels right and it doesn't yet.
Poggi seems 50/50 on Mich/Bama
And Levenberry doesn't seem close to a decision per his or his fathers words.
But hopefully their own words are irrelevant.
I am sure he'll be off his USC high here soon.
I think Poggi and Levenberry are more than 50/50 Michigan, and their respected other suitors - FSU and Alabama. I don't know to what standard FSU and Alabama hold each of these guys, but Michigan seems to have them atop of their lists. The spring game, the visits that come with it, could easily become the most important recruiting days of 2013. Logan Tuley-Tilman, who was just offered by USC, at one time said he was going to ride this thing out. He's been BLUE for a few weeks now, things change. Lets hope things go our way.
We'll see, I don't recall anyone suggesting it's Treadwell. Considering his tweet....
does anyone but me find it odd USC offered two of our OL commits right after Ty visited?
I have a really good friend that lives in Montgomery and is a huge Bama fan. For years he has known more about national recruiting that I could dream of. Bama football is a religion and recruiting is just an extension - so keep the updates coming. BTW - your initials aren't RG are they?
Really love these updates, Thanks for letting us in on some of your insider info.
Also, excited about the Isaac news, wont need to worry about wither smith or Isaac would work better, got em both!
I'm very, very excited for the spring game for lots of reasons, not the least of which is that if we get Isaac, Treadwell, Levenberry, or Poggi we'll be on our way to one of the best classes in Michigan history, and we'll be kicking ohio's butt.
RDT, please keep the updates coming.
So RB Isaac, WR Treadwell, DT Poggi, and LB Levenberry go Blue, that gets us to 20 already! Yikes! But where do we still have needs? We have super depth at TE and RB, LB is full, but the OLBs can move up by year two so would we take a second DE, would we take another DT or another DB/ATH maybe? Where do our schollie numbers stand?
I think if we get these guys you listed above then we look for a nose tackle, a linebacker and a wide receiver. With that last spot I think we take the best available like a Sua Cravens. I also think that if the coaches see a fourth d lineman as a need then they will go after that instead of a third WR
Although I'd like to believe RDT's reports, I am privvy to some inside information. A couple people have messaged me privately that his purported screen name,
RDT=Roll Damn Tide is a pseudonym.
His initials actully stand for:
RDT= "Really Dirty Tuchas."
My sources say his reports are a bunch of crap.
I wasn't expecting to post a report on RDT' so early. So, in my next post, I'll update his bio, including the life history of his Ohio-alum parents: Betty Bottom and Horace Manure.
Thanks for reading, guys.
