Ferentz is the smartest guy in the room or not? Moves second OL coach to coach DL

Submitted by iawolve on

Ferentz has put guys on both sides of the line in the league so he deserves the benefit of the doubt. However, these are some interesting moves. First, he moved his OL coach, Reese Morgan, to DL to replace Kaczenski who went to Nebraska. Seemed odd, but he then hired his son to be the new OL coach so I guess he wanted to keep Morgan on the staff since he must be a trusted guy. Now he just moved his TE coach, Eric Johnson, to assistant DL coach. This means there are two DL coaches, both of them previously coaching the OL. Johnson at one point coached LBs so mabye that was the thinking. Interested to see how this works out, hopefully not well.

As an extra bonus bit of info since all Iowa RBs are cursed, their starter Canzeri went down with a knee injury in a non-contact drill. MRI results to be released. That is one position on a particular team with a very short shelf life.

I'm the smartest guy in the room right now.  Of course, I'm alone.

This looks like nepotism to me, but Ferentz a track record of always being pretty good and giving us lots of trouble, so maybe these are brilliant moves.

i too have been in the same room and concur; however, does anyone get that successful without thinking that way?  does brady hoke think that deep down, the wisdom imparted by bo makes him such?  would anyone hold it against it if he did?

He hasn't coached O-Line before but his experience with D-Line gives a different kind of angle that I think works better.

Kind of like Dave Duncan, one of the greatest pitching coaches ever, who was a catcher his entire career. Maybe it's just me.

I have been in a room with Coach Ferentz, it was his son's wedding actually - yes Brian - now the OL coach. He was all B1G Center and on the Hawkeye team that beat UM pretty bad in A2, 36-9 or something. Brian also was recently a coach for the last few years with The Patriots. That's about it... nice story, not too much to add.. .LOL

Just wait until he reveals his dramatic new plan to start himself at QB so he can bring back Americanzi to coach the team! It's low risk because they'll be punting on every second down anyways.
