Favorite Lower Rated Recruit(s)

Submitted by Santa Clause on

Who are your favorite lower rated (low 4* or 3*) recruits that you think will outperform their ranking? I really like Chris Evans, Nate Johnson, and of course Khaleke Hudson.

Hart plays against small school competition in an area not known for producing talent. He is undersized, and not particularly fast. He is not D-1 talent and wont play a snap at Michigan.

I'm going with a 17' guy. Chase Lasater. I've got a feeling that kid doesn't go FB as projected but to LB and I also think he might end up being better than JMFR. I know. Bold.

I don't think 4* guys should be in the considered lower rated recruits but it's your OP so your rules. I will also take Hudson. He's going to be a good one.

Uche on D McDooooooom on O Both have the explosiveness and attitude to contribute early in specific packages, but they could also become multi-year starters eventually.

I'll put in another vote for McDoom and Uche.  My first choice was Chris Evans but then I saw he is a 247 composite 4*.  He looks like a Steve Breaston clone to me except not as skinny.  If he can catch, we are gonna love him.

McDoom looks to be big and fast with moves, so I'll take that.

I think Coach Brown can't wait to bulk up Uche a bit and unleash him on defenses.  Without Brown as DC I might go with someone else, but I believe Brown will use Uche's speed and athleticism to terrorize opposing offenses.

With so many large defensive lineman graduating after this year, his commitment, along with Gary's of course,  made me feel much better about the transition between the Glasgow, Wormley, Charlton, Godin group and the next group. Things would have been looking pretty thin in 2017 without him.

There are a bunch of lower ranked guys I have high hopes for.

  • Michael Dwumfour
  • Elysee Mbem-Bosse
  • Joshua Uche
  • Stephen Spanellis
  • Carlo Kemp
  • Devin Bush
  • Devin Gil

Dwumfour and Mbem-Bosse came from Africa. The work ethic is there, and I think they will outperform rankings.

Bush and Kemp are either a coach's kid, or come from a football background. High hopes for both.

Uche has an incredible offer list. Anyone offered by 'Bama is worthy of note.

Spanellis is a big boy, and we need the OL to perform.

Gil is a tweener, who I believe will fit Don Brown's defense to a T.

Yes, you could interpret that in a bad way. Having said that, we have had a ton of refugees at our church. Most from Liberia, some from Nigeria, some from elsewhere. In my limited experience, they take nothing for granted, they work hard, and they succeed. Admittedly, I have a limited dataset. But that is my experience. And I think it has also been true for some of the guys currently on our team.

The one thing I'm definitely NOT implying is anything in general about the work ethic of others. I have no way of knowing how other recruits will work. I'm just betting that African immigrants are PROBABLY going to work pretty hard.

EDIT:  and FTR, I'm not offended. I think that quite often, immigrants are pretty hard working. iirc, Zoltan Mesko fits the same profile (hardworking immigrant).
