FanVision Lite?

Submitted by ppToilet on

So, sure, there's a lot to discuss about this game.  The Manball in the rain thing that happened that was so awesome that they ended the game early.  And being old, I don't remember the last time such a thing happened.  Then again, maybe I'm old and don't remember just because I don't remember.

Anyway, I thought I'd comment on FanVision because last year it was great.  Particularly because I kind of got a couple for free ("kind of" because it did cost me in other ways).  So, prior to rainaggedon today, I carried the device into the stadium expecting much of what I liked last year:  being able to watch multiple games, instant replay from multiple angles, etc.

This year, it seemed like the FanVision was an afterthought.  The feed from ABC was so slow that I'd watch the play on the field, count to ten, and then it would come on the ABC feed.  There seemed to be much less available as far as field views.  Then I'd get the commercials delaying the game - last year, I could flip to other ESPN/ABC games.  So, they've regressed.

It is a nifty little device and I was hoping they would go another step forward this year.  Anybody else disappointed?

We didn't even bother to renew it after last season.  Just not really worth it.  Cool idea, but after you pay for the damn thing (after a boatload of people got them free in the mail unannounced), which is a piece of technology that is essentially worthless anywhere but inside Michigan Stadium, you have to pay almost as much as the thing costs every year to keep it going?

It now proudly sits in a cupboard with our stacks of also-worthless Michigan Ear Radios.

Thing didn't even start up until gametime, so no early games to watch. There were so few features, it wasn't even useful at the game, just a weight. Replays not even that necessary with the big screens, but you couldn't do that. If it still works after the rains, I'm not sure I'd bring it next week. Though I will call them (they don't answer emails) and email the athletic department.

<br>I knew the radios wouldn't work like before, but I brought it because it's convenient to wear on the ear, and it can still pick up the FM. Which when the new crappy radio deal came out, they promised us would be on 102.9 Country in AA. Well, they didn't carry the game, and the earbuds don't do AM. I did bring my other radio do I could listen to WTKA on the way in, but the cord gets in the way. Do they found one more way to scam us with the radios.
