A Fair Price for a Ticket?
I'm planning a road trip to Michigan Stadium! I'm wondering what this board feels is a fair price for a good seat these days. I haven't been to a game in Michigan Stadium for 20 years.
I like to sit between the 20s and hopefully midlevel, so that would be around row 45 or so? I'm planing to attend the Oregon State game so what do you think is a decent price?

A fair price would be $20 or so for a ticket in that general area. With Harbaugh this year, I'd expect to pay at least face value, if not more.
For between 20s I'd say you're looking at 100 minimum (per ticket) for Big Ten games. Probably closer to 150 for the night game and 200 for MSU/OSU. You're asking about Oregon State: I'd say around 100 minimum still, since it's one of the two big non conference games and the home opener. The UNLV game is the only one that I think will be relatively cheap.
One nice thing I will say about the bigass scoreboards we have now, if you don't mind watching those for when the play is on the far end, it makes the end zone seats much better IMO. I really don't think there's a seat in the stadium anymore with a "bad view" once you factor those in. Your preference of course, and I'd prefer midfield as well, but for me if it comes down to 50 bucks a ticket or so I am content to go endzone or corners.
Edit: this is assuming stubhub/craigslist. If you can get them direct from the ticket office this year, I think it'd actually be worth it comparatively.

It sounds like your request would be for a perfect seat.
I'd say you should realistically expect to pay somewhere in the $125-175 range against Oregon State. Maybe a bit more due to Harbaugh.
It's all market driven. You'll know soon enough when they hit StubHub and/or eBay. Then you just have to decide if you want to wait until you get to AA nd try to pay less on game day.

Those good seats will be over face would be my expectation. On Stub Hub, well over face.
For Jim Harbaugh's home opener, it will probaly be $140
past few years and I've always gotten a much better price than stubhub etc. That said, I don't think I have any real assurance that the ticket hasn't already been sold and the barcode on the ticket voided by virtue of the online sale. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
I was under the impression that ticket scalping was now legal in the State of Michigan. Maybe there's an A2 or campus ordinance. Or they were too close to the stadium.
I try to avoid Stub Hub (legal scalping owned by Ticketmaster) as much as possible. Their prices are typically much higher than you can find from a scalper or on Craigslist.
I've never had one screw me though. I might change my mind if I got a counterfeit ticket.

We're all booked with a friend through AirBnB so we're hoping to use most of our money on the tickets.
Whatever you do, do not buy them as soon as they start showing up online (assuming you're buying from StubHub or similar). Prices will drop the closer it gets to the game. Especially early in the season with the excitement around HARBAUGH. It's even programmed into StubHub, where you can have them automatically start dropping the price within the last several days leading up to the event. The only time I've seen the tickets prices increase closer to the event dates is when the teams are rising up the rankings from week-to-week; but that's not going to be much of a factor week 2 of the season. Maybe if the team annihilates Utah by a really large margin there could be more interest, but I still think you'd find tickets for a good price closer to game day.
If you want to be there ... then pay it up front. Good price be damned. If you find a ticket in the area you want then go for it. If you're worried that someone else paid less for tickets than you - then don't go. It's the home opener with Harbaugh on the sidelines. Expect to pay over face value for anything not in the endzone above row 80.

this is the right answer for the home opener. the home opener against western michigan a few years ago were scarce and way over face value at game time.
i would recommend a different game; like byu. likely $40-50 for that game. unlv even less.
If you care where you stay - mostly location - make hotel reservations now. If you end up canceling, no big deal, but those rooms fill up quickly.
Thehotel prices were way higher than AirBnB so we went that route.
I'm sure the prices will go up this year but except for games like ND, MSU and tOSU the tickets can usually be bought for less than face. They tend to go down as it gets closer to the day of the game. Last year a fair price was free.
I sit on the 5 yard line about 80 rows up and the seats are great. I have sat in other places occasionally, and the sightlines aren't necessarily as good, even in between the 20s down low. Sitting between the 20s isn't that much better than sitting slightly outside that zone and higher up. Sitting up higher has its advantages in football, unlike basketball, because you can see passing plays develop a lot better.
Keep that in mind when you are looking for a ticket. I wouldn't pay more than $140 per ticket for seats in between the 20s, personally. If you are looking for outside of that zone, but still sideline seats, you can probably get them for around $90 per ticket.
It's really hard to say for that game, since it is the beginning of the Harbaugh era- there will be high demand and a lot of electricity in the air for that game. Barring bad weather, those tickets will be expensive.

Bring some cash and buy them on the walk to the stadium
