Fab Five Movie Open Thread

Submitted by M-Wolverine on

Seems like an odd time to talk about the past when there's finally so much in the present to talk about, but we're under an hour away from the movie premiere on ESPN. If anyone has any thoughts on their Fab Five experience, to get us warmed up for the movie, let's hear them. And then we can pop the popcorn, and cozy up for the broadcast, which should be interesting, if nothing else. Like I said somewhere else here, it was the best of times, it was the worst of times.... And it's time to relive them, or experience them for the first time.

The NCAA definitely sanctioned us. They brought the hammer. But they essentially agreed with our self-sanctions, just adding another year of probation and taking away another scholarship. They NCAA considers those wins forfeit. I don't think the University can suddenly change it's mind 10 years later.

Chris Webber needs to grow up and say I'm sorry.

Neg me if you want, I don't fault any 18-19 year old kid taking money because it's offered. But it doesn't mean he did the right thing. Now he needs to be a man and apologize for all the turmoil and pain his actions caused the university, players, and fans who did and still love him.

That was better than I thought it could be. My wife, who didn't go to Michigan, was equally riveted.

This may be the best documentary ESPN has ever done.

Just want to say thank you to Jalen mostly. You are the man. RayRay and King and Howard, thank you for what you did for the uni. CWebb, we love you and want you coming home too. 2013 will be a good year for UM basketball for the Fab Five and for the new youngsters!

I can't believe that "Mike Talley" is currently Trending on Twitter right now. I bet he never thought he'd be that popular.

Great production. Great story. This was a very frank and powerful doc, and at the same time wasn't one of those knock-you-over-the-head emotional rides that some of them default to.

That. Was. Awesome. The good, the bad and the ugly. The truth. The pain. The excitement. It's everything I felt watching the championship game as a sophomore at UM with my own college "brothers" and it still feels that way today. Well done.

I cannot believe MSC got on national TV and said the Unveristy didn't know what was going on!!! Yes you did! Who put the pictures of Martin up in the locker room then? I always thought MSC was clueless... tonite, she opened her mouth and proved it to the world.

John Beilein.

Helps put an end to this bullshit idea that Beilein and Michigan just aren't cool enough to recruit well.

It's got to help recruiting . . . reminding recruits that yes, Michigan was and is a cool place to go.

How can we get the current team to shave their heads for the NCAA tournament? Morris, Morgan and Hardaway would look pretty badass. Plus, Novak, Smotrycz and Vogrich look absurd with their present do's. Might as well get some black socks and sneaks too

I can't wait until they put the banners up again in 2013.

Come Brandon, do the right thing!

but i recall this coming out that they were asking for 695k in restitution.

a) whatever happened of that?

b) the graph of merchandising profits show how ridiculous this is in the early 90s

c) was this only from him not taylor/traylor/bullock sinc e he lied/distanced himself?

Desiring him to fess up is completely legit, but this just seems over the top.

"Like watching my college years on television". It WAS eerie.

But more than us who can remember it, I'm glad for current and recent students. Not just to be exposed to history, but know that just making the Tournament every couple of years, maybe the occasional Big Ten title, just "not sucking", is not what it's all about, is why Crisler isn't filled, and isn't what Michigan is limited to. Getting to the Tournament for the 2nd time in 3 years, even if it's a short trip is getting back on the road to that. That's why it's more important than a long run in the NIT. We were great once; we can be again. And hopefully we're well on our way.

Yeah, as a recent grad, I think I only knew a fraction of the story. And we're talking like 1/10 of it. This is a must-watch for anyone that was too young then and should also be a must-watch for any new students. Crisler has to go back to what it was.

Excellent....better than expected in every way. I was worried the NC game timeout thing would be reliving a nightmare but they handled it well...

Anyone know if this will be available to watch online? It seems the 30 for 30 shows are stuck in the stoneage while most other ESPN content is available on ESPN3/ESPN.com.
