That was just an incredible film. Completely blown away.
Hoke was top notch at this aspect of his job.
That was just an incredible film. Completely blown away.
"#FabFive classic!! Just got off the phone with J Howard and thanked him for showing all of us what we all loved! Amazing documentary."
It's re-airing on ESPN2 right now if you couldn't get enough of it the first time.
Anyone know the name of the song and artist at the end?
Song - Quiet
Artist - This Will Destroy You
Sounded very Explosions in the Sky-esque. Sure enough, This Will Destroy You is a group that uses long instrumentals and is from Texas.
"Young Mountain" is a great album if anyone is interested in them
That. Was. Awesome. The good, the bad and the ugly. The truth. The pain. The excitement. It's everything I felt watching the championship game as a sophomore at UM with my own college "brothers" and it still feels that way today. Well done.
I cannot believe MSC got on national TV and said the Unveristy didn't know what was going on!!! Yes you did! Who put the pictures of Martin up in the locker room then? I always thought MSC was clueless... tonite, she opened her mouth and proved it to the world.
Whatever missteps MSC made with Michigan athletics over the years, she is currently on the Johnson & Johnson board of directors. She must know a thing or two about how power works in a large organization.
wow, anybody that doesn't think the Fab 5 was a big deal, check out the twitter trends right now.
ESPN couldn't do us any more of a favor to promote it, and Michigan.
Helps put an end to this bullshit idea that Beilein and Michigan just aren't cool enough to recruit well.
It's got to help recruiting . . . reminding recruits that yes, Michigan was and is a cool place to go.
How can we get the current team to shave their heads for the NCAA tournament? Morris, Morgan and Hardaway would look pretty badass. Plus, Novak, Smotrycz and Vogrich look absurd with their present do's. Might as well get some black socks and sneaks too
Still tough to beat Scotty Hopson's flat-top fade.
I can't wait until they put the banners up again in 2013.
Come Brandon, do the right thing!
apologize is reasonable. Brandon made it clear that's what they're waiting on. Admitting the mistake is a precursor to moving on, and it looks like the school is ready to do that
but i recall this coming out that they were asking for 695k in restitution.
a) whatever happened of that?
b) the graph of merchandising profits show how ridiculous this is in the early 90s
c) was this only from him not taylor/traylor/bullock sinc e he lied/distanced himself?
Desiring him to fess up is completely legit, but this just seems over the top.
The banners aren't leaving the Bentley. Sorry to burst your bubble.
That was fucking awesome.
So glad I DVR'd that.
"Like watching my college years on television". It WAS eerie.
But more than us who can remember it, I'm glad for current and recent students. Not just to be exposed to history, but know that just making the Tournament every couple of years, maybe the occasional Big Ten title, just "not sucking", is not what it's all about, is why Crisler isn't filled, and isn't what Michigan is limited to. Getting to the Tournament for the 2nd time in 3 years, even if it's a short trip is getting back on the road to that. That's why it's more important than a long run in the NIT. We were great once; we can be again. And hopefully we're well on our way.
Yeah, as a recent grad, I think I only knew a fraction of the story. And we're talking like 1/10 of it. This is a must-watch for anyone that was too young then and should also be a must-watch for any new students. Crisler has to go back to what it was.
How cool would it be if this years team made a deep run, BEAT Duke, and after the players say something along the lines of "That was for the Fab 5"!!!
word that. I'll say it for them: "This was for the Fab Five, you soft, weak, uncle tom, overrated bitches." ... I did get that part of the firm right, right?
Don't forget to tell the Blue Devils to GTFOMC!
Excellent....better than expected in every way. I was worried the NC game timeout thing would be reliving a nightmare but they handled it well...
Anyone know if this will be available to watch online? It seems the 30 for 30 shows are stuck in the stoneage while most other ESPN content is available on ESPN3/ESPN.com.
Because they're selling the downloads on Amazon and ITunes.
He talks about what a big OSU fan he is.
Yeah, I read the articles.
This is true. I'm still convinced that one of the reasons Michigan athletics as a whole was so successful in the 90's was due to the high profile the Fab Five gave Michigan. Their popularity transcended their sport and Michigan benefited for years afterward. It came with a double-edged sword obviously, but still....
I find it funny that the sharties over at tRCMB find the time to rip on the documentary, but it's funny knowing that they are watching it and feeling the need to comment on it
If you are a CBB fan, it's something you should see. You don't need to be a Michigan fan.
It was like an out of body experience for me. After a while, I forgot it was about "my team". It just became a compelling story.
People need to step back from their stupid rivalries and appreciate sports for what it is. There are many times while watching Michigan play MSU or OSU in any sport and I'm able to appreciate a beautiful pass or sweet dunk one of their players does. Hell, I've watched a documentary about Woody Hayes and Ohio State and loved it. It is sometimes nice to be able to just enjoy sports regardless of the team or players.
The RCMB has a FOURTEEN page thread about the fab five doc. What a bunch of tools.
I think I have a word for that....OBSESSION
But one thing they may be either mad, or happy, about is that Webber himself said that he was a Sparty lean during his recruitment.
They're just pissed because MSU basketball was irrelevant in the early 90's. Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, and OSU were the elite of the Big 10 back then. It's always fun to listen to Sparty talk about the "tradition" and "passion" of MSU basketball fans when I remember Jenison Fieldhouse being consistently a quarter empty for MSU home games because the Spartans were a mediocre basketball team that couldn't compete with Michigan on the recuiting front.
I hope Beilein has his guys watching it. All kinds of history lessons to be learned.
(Unless that counts as a basketball-related activity? If so, don't tell Rosie.)
They were watching, Twitter told me so. THJ seemed particularly pumped to get more banners up, besides Coach Bacari, who's always excited.
If you missed it or screwed up your DVR setting, other than the ESPN2 replay going on right now, upcoming times are:
ESPN Classic Monday, March 14 @ 1-3pm EDT
ESPN2 Monday, March 21 @ 1-3am EDT
ESPNU Monday, March 21 @ 10pm-Midnite EDT
ESPN Classic, March 22 @ 10pm-Midnite EDT
ESPN U, March 24 @ 7-9pm
ESPN U, March 25 @ 1-3pm
pretty good option #5
That scene where Webber is walking down the tunnel after the loss to UNC...that was a hard scene to watch...it really got to me
That was so bittersweet to watch. I remember all of those key games based on where I was and who I was watching with. I was a sophomore at UM when the Fab 5 came to town and it was an amazing 2 year roller coaster ride. They brought us so many range of emotions and reliving them tonight was eerie. Like it was yesterday. I'm so pumped for next Friday, its not even funny. Go Blue!
Am I the only one who was hoping for a Jason Bossard interview?
Do most of you feel like the players threw CWebb under the bus, cause thats what most on twitter are saying
