Fab 5 reunion tomorrow? "Slight chance"

Submitted by bluebrains98 on

So, my interest was piqued, so I figured I'd share. During the halftime show for the Lakers-Clippers game, Magic congratulated Jalen on his alma mater's success. Some banter broke out, with the following dialog:

Question: Is there even a slight chance we'll see the Fab  in the stands tomorrow?

Jalen: There is a slight chance. I'm working the phones right now.

They'll be there watching in an inconspicuous place where the cameras won't be able to find them. They know it's the 2012-2013 University of Michigan Basketball Team's time. Refer to Chris Webbers twitter handle.

You guys the current team loves the fab five and had jimmy king give them a pep talk before the last game...stauskas even said the documentary was influential in him choosing the school. If they don't have their panties in a bunch about it...I don't know why so much of the fan base does. I'm all for it, I love seeing alumni support their school and it's not like fans are going to forget this teams accomplishments because the fab five is there. People need to calm down.

I love how people are trying to tell the Fab Five how to act.  As if any of those guys could attend the game quietly, especially if they were there at the same time.  Like it or not, vacated wins and all the Fab Five did more for the university than any fan.  How fair that kids with their background are stripped by the people who made a living off of their backs.

That would be the most selfish, unneeded thing ever. Some day sure but not now. This team is everything the fab five never was. Let them have their moment.

First, the team looks up to the Fab Five.  Second, if the team was as mentally fragile as some seem to think they wouldn't be playing on Monday night.  Third, perception is everything because this team isn't "everything the Fab Five wasn't."

Jalen Rose, Chris Webber, Juwan Howard, Jimmy King and Ray Jackson are all grown men who will do what they like.  They (minus Webber) have all showed more support for Michigan basketball than some respected football players have done.  When former players show up, it gets attention, and when you're the Fab Five it gets more even if they did try to "watch together quietly."  Haters need to get over it.  Everyone makes mistakes, the Fab Five just did it on the national stage which makes people who haven't accomplished half as much feel the need to impose their false sense of morality on them.

Get over it.

I simply don't understand this line of thinking.

There is nothing the Fab 5 or anybody in the world can do or say that can detract from what the current team has accomplished. Nothing.

The media will do their customary "first x since the Fab 5 comparisons" like they've already done. Because it's relevant to the average viewer that doesn't know much about Michigan. And they'll get some airtime.

So what.

I don't even care if Ann Coulter shows up tomorrow. I want all alumni and fans on board. Go Blue.

Everyone that has issues with the Fab 5 being at the game needs to relax!! The NC game is about this team and THIS team only!! People need to realize that the Fab 5 made basketball what it is today...the good and the bad!! They players are ALL part of a unique and special band of brothers who played basketball at Michigan!! Let them cheer on this new generation of Wolverines!!

If they want to go, it would certainly be in their rights to do so. They bleed maize and blue just like the rest of us, and they should be allowed to cheer on their alma mater in person.

I know they all know that this is this team's time and not the Fab Five's, but I just worry about the media finding out they're there and making this into a big circus. I'd hope they come, but sit in a suite somewhere, shut away from the cameras. I know they don't want to be a distraction, but the media would make them one anyway.

Is the desire for the Fab Five to be there to support this team. It is a respect thing. The Fab Five was last to play in a title game at Michigan. These guys love their time at Michigan and love the program. They want to be there to support these guys not steal the spot light. Let go of your hate people.

This is the 2013 team's moment to shine and that means it's the wrong time for a Fab Five reunion.  Webber is staying out of the media because as he tweeted "it's your (their) time now"

If football proved anything, it's that the team isn't just a separate entity from each team before it.

Team 134 is on deck in football....

If you have a problem with the Fab Five because of past transgressions, fine.  I was at UM when the Fab Five was there...every starter on the team had the same Jeep Cherokee and nobody (talking about the students) had a problem with that even though it sniffed of rotten fish, later to be named Ed Martin.  I put more of the blame on the criminal than on the teenage athletes.  Yes, they made mistakes and yes, they were erased from the record books, but the memories are still there.

If you have a problem because you think they will steal the spotlight...then I don't think you understand the concept of "the team" at Michigan.  Burke, Hardaway, Stauskas, McGary, Robinson, etc. are playing for Webber, Howard, Rose, Jackson, and King.....as well as Russell, Rice, Robinson, Hubbard, Grant, Tarpley, Morris, Novak, Mcgee, Tomjanovich, etc....

Let's celebrate as a University and let's let all those who wore the jersey celebrate as well.....especially those who never hoisted the trophy.

It's quite comical people say they shouldn't be there because it's about this team. The fab 5 would be selfish. No the fans that say this are being selfish. If it's about this team, well this team wants them there. But here we have fans arguing against what this team wants under the guise they have this teams interests at heart. Get over the past, get over yourselves and support this team and what this team wants.
