Fab 5 ESPN Movie

Submitted by michWolves2580 on

Very excited for this.. looks awesome

The two-hour film airs March 13 at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN and depicts the story of Jalen Rose and his other Fab Five teammates, Chris Webber, Juwan Howard, Jimmy King and Ray Jackson. Called by some “the greatest class ever recruited,” the five freshmen not only electrified the game, but also brought new style with their baggy shorts, black socks and brash talk.

“The Fab Five” relives the recruitment process that got all five of them to Ann Arbor, the cultural impact they made, the two runs to NCAA title game, the Webber “timeout” in the 1993 championship and the scandal that eventually tarnished their accomplishments.

gonna tape it and watch it like Avatar.     forget the style impact (which remains significant), I loved the way they played ball......I remember telling a friend I liked watching them play because they were jazz in a marching band world.

no joke its hoke

I understand some Michigan fans "hate" the Fab Five and everything that happend but they are the reason why I love Michigan basketball. They not only changed basketball but they changed everyday life with their style.

Obviously the end to the Fab 5 was not the greatest, but the ride may have been the most college bball has seen in a long time. Still an iconic team decades later.

I don't know if any class can compare with what the Fab Five did in their first year with strictly how they perform on the court. A starting lineup of five freshmen cannot possibly best a berth in the national championship game. I don't think Kentuckly's class is as highly rated as the Fab Five were/would have been with Rivals, Scout, etc.

The best 5 Freshman EVER to take the floor together! The book was great and I bet this would be even better. Not only does the Fab 5 give me great memories, but college B-Ball in general then was Awesome!!! Calbert Chaney The Big Dog Jimmy Jackson Steve Smith Jamal Mashburn Eric Montross Christian Leattner Bobby Hurley Grant Hill I could go on and on. I can't wait for the flash back!

Was pleased when I saw MGoBlog tweet and post about this in one of his links. Sounds like a great way to get March Madness started.

I look forward to watching this film.

I was in New Orleans for the greatest basketball game i have ever seen or will ever see in my life.  The semifinal against Kentucky (considered at the time an unstoppable force) was beyond epic.

It's a shame THAT game wasn't for the national championship.  If it had been the Fab Five would've been remembered far differently I believe.  In that game they showed more heart, more talent, more courage and more WILL than i've ever seen a team deliver.  Gives me chills just thinking about it.

Me too.....sigh.  I was there for that one as well.

And you know what? Rob Pelinka was WIDE open if Chris had seen him.  Our best three point shooter was uncovered (C-Web was triple teamed) and if he had only got him the ball.......

Webber shouldn't have had to have brought the ball up in the first place.  Only Rose came back to the ball after he got the rebound, and he was closely guarded.  Howard, Pelinka and King all ran upcourt, leaving our 6'9" center to bring up the ball in the most important possession of the season.  Crazy.

We would have been better off had they called a travel, as it turned out.  UNC would have had the ball up 2 with like 16 or 17 seconds left, instead of the ball and two free throws with 11 seconds.

I was still relatively young when the Fab 5 played, but what I will always remember are the new swear words I learned after Chris Webber called "The Timeout", and watching my dad's hat fly 10 feet across the room hitting the TV in the dead center.

I'm looking forward to watching the posters on the board debate this movie over the next month or two.  Speculative analysis to live analysis to post-analysis and on and on it goes.  I won't even have to watch the movie!

I still remember vividly driving all day to get to New Orleans and watching the Final Four in the Superdome. I fondly recall how high I felt after our win against Kentucky and how low I felt after that ill-advised timeout by Webber. I will take that to my grave.

I wish I was alive to watch the Fab 5. Everyday I hear great things about them. I saw Jalen Rose at a game once and got to shake his hand, which was pretty cool. Can't wait to see this film.
