Experienced MGoBloggers Comments

Not sure this is possible, but I would think it would be interesting to have a discuss limitied to the most experienced MGoBloggers (those with >10,000 points???) about what their thoughts wrt the direction the program ought to head -- stay the course, fire GERG, nuke the entire D staff...

Keeping it to the most experience MGoBloggers would eliminate the pictures of people lighting farts and the snarky comments.  Most of them have probably expressed such an opinion, but this would consolidate their thoughts at one spot.

EDIT:  The original idea was to try and use MGoPoints as a proxy for Block M's suggestion for a discussion for which the participants had to pass some sort of football knowledge competency test first.  Based on the response, I now recognize the error of my way.  MGoPoints and football knowledge are not necessarily correlated.  My apologies to any I have offended -- I let my MGoDreams cloud my MGoJudgment.

I don't mean to rag on him -- I had 300 points just a couple months ago.  I just found it funny because he wouldn't be able to participate in such a discussion -- however, I guess he is suggesting that while the topic can only be discussed by MGoElites, everyone can view it...

I agree.

I have to agree.  People tend to vote up sarcastic, funny posts and pictures.  However, if one *starts* a thread with a new idea or starts a thoughtful discussion, people usually forget to upvote the thread.  I think this is simply because people don't see "12 points" or whatever number of votes the thread has gotten (like they see on a reply) -- it always stays stuck at "1 point" and not many people think to vote on the thread (unless it's a TomVH, Brian, or Tim thread, or a thread that everyone hates, in which case it gets a ton of -1 votes).

While I agree with everything

While I agree with everything you said, sometimes I wish we could not see the points voted on a individual post.  I would hope people upvote/downvote on how they interpret the post and not what other people feel.  Maybe, I am being too idealistic, because I am guilty of this on an occasion or two.

On Taking Other Votes Into Account

I agree with you.  Other people's votes shouldn't matter.  I also rarely vote, saving my votes for the best (and worst) comments.

However, I do take votes into account when I feel that somebody has made a valid point and is getting negged unfairly.  In that case, I almost always give the post an upvote (even though if there had been no negative votes, I would not have voted).

The best way to make them go away is just completely ignore them, however tempting it may be to respond.

Hidden point totals

I'm not sure about hiding point totals. It makes sense for voting, but sometimes when I am in a hurry or a thread has a lot of stupid/repetitive posts I'll scroll through and only read the higher point total posts.

You are right, I have to skim

You are right, I have to skim through some of the posts as well.  Some of the higher point total posts can be jokes and other helpful post do get left behind.  Nothing wrong with jokes, Lloyd Brady threads are my favorites and I loved the original one that was taken down.  There is not a perfect system.

I think you have a valid

I think you have a valid point, but I like being able to see how many points a comment has gained.  I usually upvote based on its current total.  If something good has no upvotes I'm a lot likelier to upvote than if it already has 12.

As I said I am guilty of

As I said I am guilty of looking at point totals as well at times.  But, when I have time, I try to look at the post and vote on it alone.

Your comment :

I usually upvote based on its current total.  If something good has no upvotes I'm a lot likelier to upvote than if it already has 12.

All I can say to that is if you feel it's good, upvote it.  You have your opinion and viewpoint, who cares if others think it's good or not.  That shouldn't impact your decision.  I am sure that most people on here have great views and do not need the influence of others on their decisions.

I think this site is great already, and this just a peripheral improvement suggestion.  Without my suggestion, this site is still the best.  Nice discussion and I really like the different thoughts.

I don't think I made my point

I don't think I made my point clear enough.  I don't upvote or downvote based on the opinion of others, but if I read a comment and like it I'll look and see how many points it already has.  If I think it's worth more than what it already has, I'll upvote, if not, I won't.

Until recently, all (yes, every last one of them) of my MGoPoints were due to snarky comments or pictures.

Now, they're for the pony avatar - a gentle reminder to everyone that you probably shouldn't come to me for football analysis.

I have wondered this for some

I have wondered this for some time.  How is it even humanly possible to accumulate so many negative points?  You would think your point total would go up periodically by accident through people hitting reply to one of your posts (like I just did).

What on earth did you do or post that created that large of a neg-bomb to go off?

Now that I think about it perhaps thats the group that ought to get together and start a thread.  Minus 500 or worse only allowed to participate in the roundtable discussion.  I can only imagine what would come out of that post.

I'm going to be honest: My

I'm going to be honest: My opinion on actual football strategy is 100 billion times less worthwhile than a ton of people that only have 50 points.

What would be interesting is to have a discussion where everyone had to pass some sort of football knowledge competency test first. I could get behind that.

Like I've said there are two options:

1. (preferable) hire Casteel fire Gerg and run a 3-3-5

2. Nuke the staff and bring in a DC who picks his scheme and all of his coaches.

This bs that we are doing won't work

Thought I might get some people not believing me, lol. Don't worry I didn't take the picture. As you can see it is taken into a mirror. I saved the full picture to my home computer (widened and uncropped), and I am at work so can't post it.

I did go to a dance with her in highschool and we kissed at an eight grade party if that lends me any credibility ;).

And you should only seek

And you should only seek information about sports from the "analysts" on ESPN, and on politics from folks on Fox News and MSNBC. They have been given elevated status, so they obviously are THE experts. Don't worry about exactly why they were elevated.

Don't sell yourself short

I'm pretty sure we'd be winning national titles every year if Rodriguez would only give it to Bo Jackson on the sweep every single play.  That offense works in any realm of reality.

10,000 hours+ to be an expert

In addition to points they could log the hours people spend on here on a counter by your avatar.  Maybe it is like Gladwell says in Blink that you need to do something for 10,000 hours in order to be an expert (aka nerd).

pictures of lighting farts. Which I find hilarious. The lighting farts part, I mean.

I've never even played Tecmo, so I can't even tell GERG how to play our linebackers, so I'm no help. Sorry.
