path their this year.

Win our division by going 10-2 or better, go to the B10 title game, probably lose to Bucky and we are in the Rose with that record.

It gets more realistic each week.

Pound spartina next week and it becomes doable.

Actually, I don't think we could have gone to the Rose Bowl in 02, 03, or 04. They stopped playing the game because Stanford wasn't good at football after the 1901 season.

That can't be right. The team won their first ten games in 1973 (and then tied OSU) and didn't go the Rose Bowl.

EDIT: In 1974, again a 10-0 start, then a loss to OSU--and no Rose Bowl.

What the OP failed to mention was the qualification that this is since 1976. Not sure why 1976 matter more than 1974, but then again these "ESPN/BTN type stats" are often pretty meaningless anyway.

EDIT: Well now the OP edited the title so my first sentence is meaningless, but my point as a whole stands, there is no sensible reason 1976 is the cutoff.

I agree with the meaningless of this. The reason they picked 1976 is because that was when this dubious "streak" began. What it comes down to is that the last five times Michigan started 6-0 (1976, 1977, 1986, 1997, and 2006), the team went to the Rose Bowl.

But the team also went to the Rose Bowl without starting 6-0 nine times during the same period--1978, 1980, 1982, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1992, 2003, and 2004.

And with the miles of former tiebreakers no longer in effect, which gave us a not insignificant portion of our Rose Bowl appearances over the years, it's a hell of a lot harder to get to Pasadena than it used to be.

Which one's most critical to make Rose Bowl a reality?

1. Short / Medium Pass Coverage

2. Power-rushing through the center

3. kickoff / punt coverage

4. Defense along the edge

5. D-Rob pass accuracy

Who cares?  I mean, of course I want it to happen but I'm just happy with the direction of the team.  Going into the season, I was no as optimistic as others who were saying 8+ wins.  After Rich's first couple of seasons, I fully expected a losing season in 'surprising' fashion like 2008.

A bit rough in the first half but the team played much better in the 2nd half!  Hope we play a complete game next week in E.Lansing!  I really want to knock off both MSU and OSU this year!

I'm getting more optimistic that we can win 10 games this season. 2 to 3 more than I had thought we would win. Just keep improving as a team and we will be in good shape no matter what bowl we play in!

I bought Big Ten Championship tickets at the beginning of the year and I never thought UM had a chance.  Now I am having a hard time not drinking the kool-aid.

I'm debating whether or not to go back home to New Orleans for Christmas break. Why settle for the Rose Bowl when Michigan could end up in the BCS Championship game?
