Which team do you hate less? Either way, they've got fantastic athletes and this should be fun to watch. Hopefully we see neither in a bowl game.
I am shallow man. I bought into the hype and turned on this game.
Would you ordinarily not have turned it on? These teams are seriously good.
In reality, it was the only game I planned on watching more or less straight through tonight.
I hate both of these teams...
I'm going for LSU. I know it's not popular around here, but I kind of like Miles. He's a Michigan Man fergodsakes! Oh and "the honey badger" is an awesome nickname.
Born in AA but went to UC.Zach Collaros, UC QB made a play that DR should emulate. Saw the edge blitz coming and ran right at, or as the results showed, by it.
Can someone provide a live stream of the LSU-Bama game?
Do you guys remeber when we were in the hunt to get Sam Montgomery
Kenny Stills, Tony Jefferson, and Corey Nelson?
Every UofM fan should be rooting for LSU. Ex player, ex coach, ex alum representing what it means to be the leaders and the best. And, unfortunately for us, what should of been...
You know why he left Michigan, right?
Besides, he couldn't get away with cutting a Freshman before practice started because too many other Freshmen showed up at Michigan.
Certianly know the rumors, which have been unconfirmed by all parties for years. I am not a powerful alum, but my connections cannot pin point a signal varifiable source to confirm to what you are referring. Even Bacon has been asked in connection to Three and Out about this disconnect between he, UofM and Carr. He either refuses to answer pointently or he cannot actually confirm what the real issue is. Why would he still up until last year want and/or consider UofM HC job?
Let's entertain that its true or partially true. He made a mistake, and damned if he didn't make it an opportunity to succeed beyond any UofM's wildess dreams since 1997 (thats a long time ago...duh!)
And as we have seen, whether you care to admit it or not, even Fort Schembechler has had its cracks, some wider and more penetrating than others. We all as UofM fans would be kinding ourselves to think that you would do exactly what every SEC schools does to compete for recruits, titles and BCS berths. Don't think for a second that our coaches haven't and won't exhaust every gray area to squeeze recruits or practice hours to win. Legal is only in the eyes of the beholder and whom interpets the rules/laws.
The Big 10 actually prohibits what I described above. I meant he couldn't do it in the context of he wouldn't actually be allowed to--regardless of anyone's moral qualms (or lack thereof).
25 up against 28. That is the rule. I understand your point completely, however, LSU has made some very public poor recruiting decisions -- doesn't mean Les and LSU are evil. That is being overblown. Its culture and competing with your league members. They also do what every one does when you have a health roster full of talent and NFL talent, you over estimate how many will leave early. Right or wrong, that is the game. Not saying they are not "cutting" or " releasing" players, but I won't look at them like they are killing college athletics either.
We can't have that extreme, when if we were to look deeper at our current situation, are we not finding ways to fit more into our 2012 class based on some of the same methods?
Lastly, I know it may seem crass, heartless or evil if you will, but when you coach and have players on your roster that need to go, a coach has a right to cut the dead weight. Its not just extreme behavior, its developing cancer that needs to be surgically removed, whether it means an ugly scholarship debate in the media, versus what the CEO of Michigan, LSU or Alabama know about the internal poltics, disposition and disruption a player or players are causing cuz they aint getting their due yo -- you dig! Managing talent is more of a college CEO's job than X's and O's than ever. Even if that means, unfortunately, removing players from the programs for the right reasons, but looks more like roster manipulation.
We are sort of scratching our heads at our recruiting numbers right now and wondering where they are coming from in the program. Its not cut and dry or perfectly clear where every scholarship is coming from for 2012 concering UofM.
"Right or wrong, that is the game." No, it's wrong. In a 4 year span, LSU and Alabama have recruited nearly an entire extra class of players. Outside of them and maybe another few teams in the SEC, no one does this. It is simply not possible to recruit this many players without cutting, a.k.a. "medical hardships."
No, we are not using the same methods in order to fit in our 2012 class. We can actually SIGN 28 because our roster has been depleted nearly every year for the last 3 years.
Yes, it is heartless and crass to think that a coach should be able to cut under-performers. There should not be a one-way responsibility from the player to the team: it's not like players can leave and play somewhere else freely, why should coaches be able to trim rosters freely? In fact, the recent rule change which allows for offering multi-year scholarships is designed to mitigate specifically this concern.
Finally, we know exactly where the scholarship numbers are coming from this year. We are, what, 26 under the limit including graduating seniors? We have at least 2 4 year players that will not be asked to return for a 5th, which is a far cry from playing the medical hardship card: 4 years allows you to get a degree.
Have you ever coached or played athletics beyond HS or MS?
The reason I ask, and with all due respect, is because though your arguement has validity, it doesn't hold weight when you are intimately involved in big time athletics. It just isn't that rosy, sir. There are players that can signal handely bring down your team and program both from on the field, off the field and in the classroom actions. They should not be given the gift of scholarship. Your job/career is rarely a lock contract where there are not out clauses, why should thier scholarship be guaranteed?
You can’t offer a 17/18 young man or woman (in the larger context) a free ride for 4-5 years, then they pull a Boo –car and ruin the whole team's rep. What about JT Turner? Did you read Three and Out? What about the chapter about the 2010 team and the weak links who didn’t earn their wings prior to the season? Make me a case the lets them keep the grant-aid scholarship because it is morally correct in their case/his case? Please…!!! That’s not even flash-gate, five fab or hockey net-gate. Give me a break.
Whose being Med-hardship this year?…how many have left? You are contending that everyone who has left should get a scholarship not just at UofM but at the college they chose to transfer to afterwards? And the reason is because they promised one D1 school, so that pledge should transfer to the other school?
This argument is similar to the marriage and cereal analogy: Why get married when you can the variety pack every day. Why marry a player that has a fatalistic mentality that will blow up in the face of the coach, teammates and school?!??! Better to cut ties and grab another box.
They should not be given the gift of scholarship just because we here at UofM think that is morally correct. You forget our history about not being all that morally correct, paying for play and enrolling grad students less than 100 years ago. Long time, but is it different?? Win and all cost is a trait among civilized cultures, notwithstanding 2011 college athletics.
Your job/career isn't a guarantee, thus their athletic scholarship or grant aid program shouldn't be either. If you are academically ineligible, you can become a liability and morally ineligible too!!
'97 team stocked with Moeller recruits. It's unfortunate what could have been with Moeller. He had a greate career post-UM.
Brandon, illuminated by his decisions, has proven himself to be vainly controlling the U of M program - the sideline prowls during the game, snubbing Denard, reviewing game film with RR (and I bet Hoke) and unis which throwback to no particular era, the mascot on the horizon and I could go on, bet I don't want to steal Bacon's material.
After reading how much "control" Bill Martin had over the program, and seeing things deteriorate rapidly from a leadership standpoint after Bo's death, I'm fucking ecstatic that we have an AD who rules with an iron fist.
I was at the book signing in Seattle the other night for Three and Out and I asked him point blank about the "rumor" and this is what he said...
As far as John U Bacon is concerned, he is FLABBERGASTED that people believe this rumor. John said Mrs. Moeller is not some floozy in a leather skirt, and there is absolutely no way that she had some illicit affair with Les. He talked to many people in the know and he said there is not one shred of evidence that this rumor occurred. He seemed pretty upset that people would even believe this junk.
If anyone would have gotten bottom to the this rumor, it would have been Bacon. As far as I am concerned, this rumor should die the same death as our Big 10 championship hopes...
Everything I have heard is the same...unfortunately its more about the connection to Carr and Les clashing at UofM and then subsequently on the recruiting trail and at the annual coaching convention in Jan.
The more that comes out about Carr, the less his legacy seems legitize about the vaules he exposed.
Lsu guys blatantly talking trash after every play.
Part of football.
I can't root for Saban, EVAR. Go Hat!
Wake Forset scores first priming Brian Kelly for an inevidable sideline meltdown.
Don't drink and post, kids.
The energy at this game is unbelievable. I've never seen anything like it in a regular season game. (Sorry '06 Game of the Century...I know that's blasphemous.)
Even with his reputation, Miles has ties to Michigan and therefore I tend to root for him to do well. It doesn't hurt that Saban was once a Sparty, either. Balancing both of those things, I'm rooting for LSU all the way.
And you might be the individual to ask, what happened to the BOX house?
Whatttt? Even a team with as much tradition as Alabama plays piped in music?!
Yeah, I hate to be that guy, but these teams would absolutely wreck anyone in the B1G..... cheaters or not.. this looks like some NFL football....
Maybe I should have just kept that as a thought... oh well
Well, maybe a few of the established underclass stars will go pro after the season. Alabama is bringing back about 14 of 22 starters right now.
(shudders) i hope to God UM figures out how to make Denard/Devin good passers by next September or that game will get ugly.
NFL football? Please....
Wreck anyone in the Big Ten? Was that crappy Penn St. wrecked?
Why would LSU ruin lee's rhythm?
Les Miles is the only coach in the country who can get away with playing a mix n' match, two QB system.
Doesn't everyone want great cover corners?
Say honey badger. Please.
THell, UM's D can do that! That was some shitty secondary play
Wake up early 10-3
Perfect complement to Best.
If this was a "normal" Lions team we might have a chance at him. This year we will have no chance. I'm looking forward to seeing what Leshoure can do when he is healthy next year.
But they won't have a shot at him either.
nobody's gonna get him this year
Eddie Lacy is pretty damn good as well.
He is going to be such a beast. Love those quads.
Les Miles claps weird.
Why the hell try that FG? Clearly that miss demonstrates the power of the SEC
Who keeps lettting shankapottomus onto the field?
Someone may suddenly develop career ending plantar fasciitis.
I'm rooting for LSU, for the simple fact that they're more likely to gack away a game later on than Bama is.
The SEC...where penalties are just caused by the awesomeness of the other players, not poor playing on your part
and SEC QB's clearly suck as much as anyone else's.
That's probably because QBs are relatively low on their totem poll.
5. Punishing RB
Nice closing speed there.
It's hard to argue with the results of the BCS championship game the last few years.
These guys are playing a completely different game than everyone else in the country. Every single guy looks 20lbs heaver than their B1G counterparts, and twice as fast. Scary.
I agree, I actually just turned it off. Really don't care about either team and can't stop thinking about how scummy both coaches are.
I don't like Alabama. But if they win out and win the NC, half their team will go pro.
It will help us next year in Dallas.
Here comes the 50 yard field goal attempt...again.
Edit: That's 9 possible left on board by 'Bama so far. They look a lot better than LSU, but you can only give away so many points and win.
I really wish there would be a law against the Alabama "swoosh" hair style.
I went to alabama, 04 grad. The guys who had swooshes still have them today.
listening to these commentators talk about the SEC and how good it is after each snap is making me sick.
Wake Forest #25 has terrifying arms. Wowsa.
Alabama will not return anywhere near 14 starters. More likely about 9. They will have a mass amount of juniors in the draft. they will lose 5 of their back 7.
I never count on kids leaving--although I really hope you're right.
Mother of god. Alabama's team is MASSIVE. Michigan needs to take notes. They have the ideal offense and defense.
LOL.. 'Bama field goal situation is equivalent to Michigan 2010
You know what I like about this game? Both teams are wearing THEIR NORMAL GODDAMN UNIFORMS.
I was thinking the same exact thing earlier. Its refreshing to see.
Please miss another field goal. It's getting awesome.
You would think those were the best three points of offense ever scored.
When your defense is like Alabama's, three points are huge.
3-3 at halftime is actually at the high of expectations offensively, considering the defenses in this game.
Les is going to magic a touchdown here somehow. It's bizarre.
...probably going to get sent to Bolivian for posting this, but this game looks pretty slow and small-time to me. LSU's band sounds weak. The energy level is nowhere near Football Armageddon.
Maybe it's just a byproduct of the fact that bush league CBS is broadcasting this event.
Guys, this game is small time! Best two teams in the country playing? Might as well be Tulsa and Army!
ABC, 8 PM. Be there.
Yeah, I'd rather hear Pam Ward for sure.
He is criticizing Wake's Grobe for allowing the clock to go from 52 to 32 even though they were at the 3 and had three time outs. Milking the clock is what you want to do there.
Saban's watch looks like some hustler, big and gawdy. gauche new money.
I always thought Saban would have a 1993 Casio. He doesn't have time for shit like watch shopping.
The WRIF used to spoof Saban on Monday morning ... Drew would do Saban's voice, Mike would ask him questions about the MSU game, and invariably it would go back to Saban's hair and it's god-like status.
Nice to see you Mr. Defensive Holding.
Apparentlyy you needed to take off the 1st and 4th Qtr of Mich-Iowa.
Notre Dame being their Domer selves. Give up the TD to make it 17-10 Wake, then Reese gets picked once again.
Did...did Les Miles just use proper clock management?
up to his tricks
I like how in that AT&T commerical they talked about that stupid ranking thing on the phone and every single team was an SEC team in the ranking.
You are a lazy ESPIN analyst - the Hemingway 4th qtr 2nd and goal ball did not, as you wrongly stated, "Hit the ground first so it was the right call by the official"
The ball did NOT hit the ground first, Hemingway made a heckuva catch. Moron.
Take your "oh, i want to be a dr so i don't have time for football at osu" crap somewhere else... Your facade of being an "educated football player" is a bunch of BS to everyone who hears your inch thin analysis.
One of John Cooper's finest. Jackass.
Verne Lundquist is . . . a . . . . little . . . . slow . . . . on some of these calls.
Naah...it's just all that SEC speed that makes him seem slow.
Teams so close, it would be a shame if a bad call ruined this game.
Am tired of the nonsense that "ref's don't decide games". That's BS.
Some teams are so even that a bad call will swing the game. To say "well Team X should have done A, B or C" is BS because Team Y will counter them with another play or similar. So, when teams or even, and the refs blow it, yeah, that's an issue.
So, we got homered today, pure and simple. Congrats Kirk, Jim Delany misses Denard's head twist and sends the 3 blind mice to officiate our game. Jokers.
This is really not a particularly well played game.
Being big-time means being able to make plays on both sides of the ball, not just defensively.
Pitt QB is sacked in the closing minute but hurls the ball forward just before he hits the ground. Ruling on the field is a fumble and a Cincinnati recovery, but replay correctly overturns it and calls it an incomplete pass.
But replay can't call a penalty, nor can the officials after the review, so the obvious intentional grounding that the official would certainly have called if he'd correctly ruled incomplete on the field isn't called. It's 2nd and 10 instead of 2nd and 30.
The 20 yards keeps the drive alive and turns out to be just enough to get Pitt into field goal range...
...which they miss, so I guess justice is served.
Still something for the rules committee to look at in the offseason. It ought to be possible for the field officials to tell the replay official what they would have called if the call on the field is reversed, so the reversal is into the proper result.
I am not a fan of using replays to review penalties, but all of these helmet to helmet calls that have become the norm lately are starting to drive me crazy. There was a leading with the head call in the OSU/ Stanfod game, that in both real time and replay did not look bad at all. The officials called the pentalty which cost OSU the ball on the Stanford fumble and a OSU TD.
I wish in penalties of this sort, there would be some sort of check on the officials. I know they are trying to protect the plays but it is getting ridiculous.
Wait, we play this Alabama team next year?
Mostly, but Richardson is gone for sure. I would have much rather player them 2013 or 2014.-
By 2013-2014, Hoke will have his program in shape to outplayer Alabama ;)
but at a wedding in cleveland, they just played "hang on sloopy" and the only scotch here is JB. Shoot me.
Single is always better.
but at a wedding in cleveland, they just played "hang on sloopy" and the only scotch here is JB. Shoot me.
Oregon gets a pick and scores on the first play from scrimage. 7-0 Oregon over Washington
Trick play fail. What a pick.
Edit: NVM. No way that's a pick.
Edit edit: Unless it is?
I thought I heard one of the announcers awkwardly try to refer to Wake Forest as the "Demon Deeks". Maybe it was just me.
Demon Decs but yeah, that's a shortened nickname for them.
In the old days, I think Alabama gets the reception at the one.
But under recent rules, I think the INT call was correct.
Just like the Donovan Warren / Bill Lynch gum-throwing call.
We're getting dangerously close to "WTF WAS THAT?/MAD HATTER TIME."
...no way a 6-6 game calls for a rematch for Ntl Chmpshp, right? Right? RIGHT? Aw, c'mon! That's worse than koolaid crazy!
Wow... Mattieu had a fucking dirty cheap shot on Dre Kirkpatrick. That was just messed up. Hit him right in the throat...
How do the stud Wolverine defenses of old stack up against these monsters?
It's hard to compare, because back then you could stockpile talent by giving 125 scholarships over 4 years...
At 3:10 in the 4th quarter. He sees an opening about 2 seconds into a designed run play and takes it for 20 yards. Sadly I couldn't even fathom Denard ever having the presence of mind to do that. Forget about his terrible passing, his best gift is running and he can't even use that talent to capacity unless told explicitly when to use it. How are we suddenly going to beat any other team we play with Borges and denard doing what they do?
I never thought I'd say this... But I'd rather have John Navarre.
I meant designed pass play
That d-line was amazing in '97. Linebackers would wreck Richardson all day. Safeties / corners were all honey badgers.
Oh yeah, and Saban's hair just went limp.
18 yd QB scramble.
I'm must be forgetting a couple, but I can't think of a single scramble by Denard on a pass play where he hurt the defense with a significant gain.
I'd think that Borges would have a play or two up his sleeve to take advantage of that situation.
Nobody runs a straight man against denard where every lb has their back turned.
The last time Michigan played in a defensive struggle this ugly, it was 1950 and they were playing in a blizzard (Snow Bowl).
I remember that game. I was like, -40 years old.
What about '95 Purdue?
I sat behind the south end zone. Holy shit, that was brutal weather. My cap froze to my hair.
Meanwhile, Alabama dance team......lots of 8's and 9's in that section.
The make up is way too much for me though. Tennessee girls are prettier btw.
Ahem. Billy Bob disagrees.
so is it just first team to miss a fg loses? I can't see either team scoring a td
10 mgopoints says bama wins in OT, their offense seems to be more consistent. If you say that about a 6-6 tie.
I'll put up 5 Borges Bucks that LSU wins
I hate Saban, would like to see LSU win.
dick move by tyrann Are he and Tom Gholston friends?
This game is never goingto end. Unless one of the defenses score, that is.
Sleep is overrated. There's not enough hours of college football in one year. Savor every drop while you still can.
I'm surprised they didn't try a fake FG.
LULZ Bama kicker sucksssssssssssss. I know these are 45+ but still, not even close on distance or accuracy.
I don't feel your pain on the missed FGs Alabama...
LSU kicker has a long of 44 by the way. 3/3 from 40-49
Game over, LSU just needs the FG for the win.
We'll have a chance.
How 'bout the hatter? Play conservative & go into OT w/ the game likely to come down to FGs.
It was a good choice considering LSU has the better kicker by a longshot.
That is all.
He looks like he wants to cry...
Every 4 years doesn't net you a decent kicker.
Hell of a game, glad to see Saban go down. I would how many baby's will have to give up their soul to appease him after this loss.
Alabama's home field advantage was really a non-factor in this game. They were quiet most of the game (yes, McCarron was telling them to quiet when Bama was on offense) and didn't make one bit of different at all...
"Their FG kicker sucks"
Seeing the anguish in that bama fan's faces kind of cheers me up.
the one guy they kept showing who was crying like a pussy is going to hear it from his buddies.
And yes, I agree, it made me feel a bit better, too.
Nick Saban leaving for the recruiting trail right now. Going to sign 5 kickers in this class.
Heck of a display of field position / special teams football determining the outcome of the game. Two misses and one block on Bama made the difference.
In more pressing news: Charlie Day is on SNL
Even though Charlie Day was hardly in the sketch, the Greek Gods discussing the financial crisis was hilarious. "I turn into animals and bang women all the time"
Game of the Century my ass. I want my money back.
Enough with the rematch bullshit! Not happening. Shouldn't happen.
Sources say that Nick Saban, Alabama Head Coach, put in a call to Brady Hoke, Head Coach at Michigan, immediately following the Crimson Tide's loss to LSU in their #1 vs #2 SEC Matchup. Coach Saban is believed to have proposed sending running back Trent Richardson and two unspecified offensive linemen to Michigan in return for the services of Michigan kicker Brendan Gibbons. The legality of the alleged deal remains in question, but high placed sources reportedly believe the NCAA would make an exception for Alabama.
"I know the transfer rules, but did you see 'Bama's kicking tonight? I wouldn't wish that on Hilter's football team, the Fighting Mustaches. Something has got to be done, and now", said one anonymous informant.
Did you manage to work Hitler into that joke?
